Wii U Speculation Thread 2: Can't take anymore of this!!!

I'm mostly interested in seeing how the Japanese and Indie development community takes to it, and that goes with all of the next-gen systems. I don't play western "AAA" games or "B" game wannabes... and as a new homeowner, don't really have a ton of money that I can throw around on buying every system known to man anymore :P

WiiU will almost assuredly be a purchase due to the core Nintendo franchises, though I'm hoping we get some new surprises from the big N (*cough*StarTropics*cough)...
Here's a rundown of the more prominent Japanese development houses and suggested titles (non western "AAA" games):

  • Acquire (Tenchu, Shinobido)
  • Arc System Works (BlazBlue, Guilty Gear)
  • Arika (Endless Ocean 3)
  • Atlus (Persona, Trauma Center)
  • Camelot Software Planning (Mario Golf)
  • Capcom (Monster Hunter, Rockman, Spyborgs)
  • Cave (DonPachi series, Espgaluda)
  • Chunsoft (Pokémon Mystery Dungeon, Shiren the Wanderer)
  • From Software (Armored Core, Dark Souls series)
  • Grasshopper Manufacture (No More Heroes 3, port of Shadows of the Damned etc.)
  • Grezzo (The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask HD?)
  • Kojima Productions (Metal Gear Solid, Snatcher 2, Zone of the Enders)
  • Konami (Castlevania, PES, Silent Hill)
  • Level-5 (Atamania, Inazuma Eleven)
  • Mistwalker (Blue Dragon sequel perhaps)
  • Namco Bandai (Katamari, Tekken X Street Fighter, Soulcalibur)
  • Natsume (Harvest Moon)
  • Platinum Games (Anarchy Reigns, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance)
  • Q Entertainment (Child of Eden, Lumines)
  • Q Games (PixelJunk)
  • Rockstar Japan (don't know what they are doing, but perhaps something like Yakuza)
  • SNK Playmore (Metal Slug, The King of Fighters)
  • Square Enix (Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts)
  • Tecmo Koei (Dead or Alive, Fatal Frame/Project Zero, Ninja Gaiden)
  • Tose (well, uhm... yeah)
  • Treasure (Bangai-O Spirits, Sin & Punishment)
  • Vanillaware (hopefully a sequel to Muramasa: The Demon Blade)
The list may be slightly malformed, I think I've got most of the things correct though. There are of course a few exceptions here as to what potentially may be released for the Wii U, I just made suggestions based on what I believe could be suitable for the format.

Since, we're kind of in a loop

Was thinking, the Mario series has spun out several franchises (not counting the Karts/sports/party), we gotten Luigi's Mansion, Wario Land, Super Princess Peach and Yoshi's Island/Story.

So was curious, which other Nintendo franchise would you like to see a spin-off of, and what genre?

To be THAT guy

Was thinking of two possible spin-offs.
One would be more of an action/platformer starring Meta-Knight, I think he is an interesting character, and already hast some clout due to his appearance in Smash Bros.
I also think it would be nice to expand the Kirby Universe just a bit.

The other is a bit of a stretch, but I've always liked the idea of WuHu Island being its own type of "Character" And while Nintendo can be a bit shortsighted with it (making it the only map in Pilotwings Resort for example)
I do think they have some potential.
And was thinking of a Mario/Mii spin-offs, where the Koopa Kids would take over various parts of the island, and the player as the Mii would have to fight to get it back.
Not sure what type of game want it to be though.

Has Activision made any major title for the 3DS yet ?

They're like Ubisoft, they talk a lot and the games remain to be seen.
Titles that Activision Blizzard has released for the Nintendo 3DS in North America:
  • Spider-Man: Edge of Time
  • NASCAR Unleashed
  • Generator Rex: Agent of Providence
  • DreamWorks Super Star Kartz
  • Wipeout 2
  • Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure
  • Transformers: Dark of the Moon - Stealth Force Edition
  • Mixed Messages
Out of these, Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure ought to be the most popular one at least. As for what kind of support Activision Blizzard will offer Wii U, it's probably prone to have something do with either Call of Duty: Space Warfare or Call of Duty: Secret Warfare. Two titles that they have been putting some extra attention to lately, at least that's the impression I got while looking through corporate filings. And those titles would certainly fit well with the Nintendo Network in conjunction with the launch of Wii U, as titles shaping the way for online play.

With the NFC in the Wii U, there's no way Activision won't try to profit from it with Skylanders Giant. Heck, even Call of Duty.

All they see is a train with one big pile of gold at the end.

They just need to be careful not to repeat Guitar Hero. If they overload the market, they lose a good money maker.
But yes, it would be so easy to put the game on the U. Hell they could even release it with the original and not worrh about people needing the Portal.

Haven't played a single one out of that list. More than half, I didn't know about the existence.

And I somewhat doubt about the quality of such titles, too.

As far as Ray Tracing goes, it's going to be awhile till that is done on hardware in real time, with decent quality.

All right, I'll probably stick to this thread for next-gen hardware predictions. A lot of people are claiming that RT is the next big thing on other websites.

Activision, supporting a system?

I am not sure I believe this.

I am going to have to go outside and make sure the sky is still blue!
In the chat board to the side of the article they didn't seem to keen on our mocking...They then put the emphasis of the article on the comparison to EA.

I still don't see it. EA talked of the online infrastructure... there's only two things I can see Activision thinking they can offer. One isn't worth speculating in public; the other is improved exploitation of COD Elite... they call it ElUte

Ubi Vancouver was behind Academy of Champions on Wii (the soccer game with Raymnan and creepy AssCreed and Sam Fisher characters, remember? Anyone?), they were actually called Action Pants before they were bought, I am not kidding.

Epic Mikey 2 is for all current platforms from what was said in surveys and whatnot, a Wii U version would be great! But the first did disappoint. :(

And for the big wishlist above, Blue Dragon is owned by MS, so we'll never see it on Wii U, same chance as a Banjo for Wii U; Zero! :(

Now 3DS, absolutely, as the DS got Plus and Awakened Shadow. The latter by Tri-Cresendo and the Tales team (or at least Hideo Baba).

I think the Epic Mickey 2 being a Wii U game deserves a thread.

nah, the people that care about this news is right here in this thread, outside it will get bashed and the anti-Nintendo patrol will find a way to turn this news in something negative.

They're probably expecting the same thing that happened in the beginning of the current gen.

No, it should be no where near this bad on any of the three systems...

Is there a list of confirmed Wii U games and rumored but probably real Wii U games. What with the Epic Mickey news and the new Lady Gaga game, I really want to see a list.

Off the top of my head:

Confirmed

Batman: AC
Metro Last Light
Darksiders 2
Pikmin 3
SSB4
Killer Freaks
Ghost Recon Online
Assassin's Creed
Tekken
Ninja Gaiden 3
Lego City Stories
DiRT
Aliens: Colonial Marines
Dragon Quest X

Rumored or Likely
GTA5 (Via 01net)
Devil's Third
Resident Evil 6
Homefront 2
Street Fighter vs Tekken

Didn't the HD twins have some kind of advanced tech that only made it to desktop PCs about a year later?

The 360 had some stuff that came out like a year later. Its actual performance was not all that amazing, however.

Has THQ started selling off their franchises?
Or is it still simply delayed?

It's delayed to 2013 but THQ isn't going to last long enough for that to be an issue and they likely don't have the money to continue development, anyway. I believe 4A has the ability to take the project to another publisher if THQ cancels the project for whatever reason, though.

Thanks for the list!

Wasn't there a secret "AAA" Ubisoft MMO?

Then there is that Monolith Soft game and the possible Battlefield.

The Ubisoft MMO and the AAA Wii U game were two different things, though the MMO could still be on the Wii U.

And yes, there is the Monolith game (possibly a new BK?) and whatever Battlefield comes out this year/next year.
