Wii U Speculation Thread 2: Can't take anymore of this!!!

Can someone go to the Nintendo booth, lift up the carpet and follow the tunnel that leads to AMD and Crytek booths. While you're there take pictures of the Wii Us.
Cheers

I'm seriously scared about the iPad 3. Minus the controller lacking, Apple is kinda releasing the first next-gen "gaming" platform.

In what way? iPad 3 is no way a game changer. It'll maintain strong sales of the iPad brand and retain the marketshare it already has, but I don't see the ipad user base growing substantially.

but it's an ipad. shitty touchscreen controls and no gaems.

When they decide to enter the console race, THEN we panic.

I'll never buy a $500 "gaming" platform. I was never interested in tablets anyway. I prefer keyboard+mouse, and real buttons/sticks.

(Goes back playing MotorStorm RC and MK7)

I miss that Janitor guy from IGN64.

I think some games will look impressive on it, to be sure. But I think most IOS developers won't want to sacrifice the userbase that still has iPad 1 and 2, so we may not see dedicated games utilizing the 3 to it's best capability.

And I think the lack of controller is huge. There's only so much one can do with a touchscreen / gyro.

Alright guys, where is our hype train stopping over next? PAX East?

I'm still expecting new 3DS info at the very least.

Don't get your hopes up. It'd be a bizarre time for nintendo to say anything. I'd look forward to a Nintendo held event like Direct, or E3, I'm afraid...

Speaking of them. Anything at their booths that could be related to Nintendo? Any pictures of them out yet?

You shouldn't be. It's still just a tablet. And memory capacity (not performance) and resolution aside, it's still far weaker than even current gen HD systems, but designed to push far more pixels. This isn't lightning in a bottle like the first iPad, or the first iPhone. I'd go even further and say Apple lost it's touch. All they do now is more of the same. And I'm by no means an Apple hater, writing this post on my MacBook Air, with an iPad 2 and an iPhone 3GS in reach.

Yeah, iPad is getting more powerful every time and now it's Retina at that form factor there's no need to up res, and hence gpu upgrades will go solely to effects.

More games from big devs are bound to go there, but I think we need to wait a few years until the Apple TV/iTV becomes their console (iPad/phone being an alternate option for portability). Once that's powerful enough and has enough storage, I bet they'll bundle a controller and that's when things really heat up. Use it with either iPad or Apple TV.

At that point the world comes to an end because with all 3rd party multiples going their, a lot of people will be happy enough with it.

I'm not sure that they've lost their touch, they just can't revolutionize things all the time :) wait until their TV comes out and then we might see which way they're thinking wrt gaming because I imagine when their TV comes out, Apple TV will get an upgrade too.

I don't think devs are too worried, as they can just scale back their engines in most cases. Then people like Epic just cover a lesser range of generations if they nt to push the graphics envelope. Also seeing that iOS devices are generally yearly, they cycle faster than consoles. I personally think consoles should look at moving to some sort of upgrade path given how Apple seem to be heading into their territory.

Anyone desperate for information could call Nintendo of America's PR department at 425.882.2040. It seems to be the only way we can get someone to actually start talking, or at least tell when more info is expected. If foreign calls through my operator weren't so expensive I'd do it myself. Fax is also available at 425-882-3585... I wonder if they'd appreciate that space train image.

Anyway, I suppose the reason for Wii U's absence at GDC could be that the Wii U trademark is experiencing problems in form of opposition (by Information Technology Junction Ltd) in Europe, and in the US they cannot continue action on it because they have still to provide certain key documents. Perhaps to be able to show the system to the public, they would have to just call it "our next generation system" and that would more or less prematurely confirm a name change, or at least that's what the common interpretation would be.

In what way? Running Skyrim on my PC in 1600x2560 requires 2 crossfired high-end GPUs and a 1000watt power supply, probably somewhere well over 10x the raw power of an A5X. Ipad 3 does have high resolution but utilizing it is going to be very hard.

I live in the UK... so, no. I'm not THAT desperate.

Please go please someone else do it

I was certainly not under the impression Ghost Recon was a download title. I assumed it to be a packed retail game, albeit an online-only game.

Huh? How could i've missed that? Got any links?

i feel stupid now.
Well, the producer at Ubisoft expects the game to be around $10 (according to an IGN interview from E3 2011), which led me to believe it would be a downloadable title. It's designed as a F2P game, so assuming Nintendo doesn't want F2P on eShop, $10 with some extras that would cost money on PC included from the get go seems logical.

Zen Studios confirmed Marvel Pinball for Wii U eShop late last year in a press release, and Nicalis confirmed a 3DS/ Wii U game in an interview with Destructoid just a few days ago. The latter isn't necessarily a downloadable game, but almost all Nicalis games are, so I would certainly assume that one is an eShop game as well. The same is true for Shin'en, who also confirmed Wii U support just a couple of hours ago. I believe Renegade Kid confirmed to be on board as well, as is Gaijin. Except for one or two exceptions, all their titles are downloadable.

Thanks for the heads up!

i thought, maybe i just forgot about it (like the nfc, lol)

but yeah, i really missed these tibids.

Woah look at all those games we saw at Nintendo Direct.

At most, I'm betting we'll see that 2D Mario 3DS game that's been talked about barely.

Calm down guys. Just watch the fan reaction video of one of the best E3's ever and everything will be fine.

E3 2012 - Nintendo conference is drawing to a close. Footage of some great titles - Pikmin 3 is coming for launch, along with a slew of 3rd party games (and a few promising exclusives too!). Nintendo's online services are friend-code free and don't require any type of payment. Everything is looking great - F-ZERO UX, mapped for early 2013, is a graphical awe.
Now, there's 10 minutes left, and it seems nintendo have finished wrapping up their conference.
But what's this? "One more piece of gaming perfection", Reggie?
Lights go down, all is silent... And then the famous Zelda trailer music kicks in, but this time it's fully orchestrated, with added drama. A RETRO studios logo illuminates the screen, followed by "in partnership with Nintendo".
Cue 4 glorious minutes of Zelda footage - it looks incredible. Beautifully lit environments and enormously detailed textures grace the land of Hyrule, and the beauty and character that is such a part of the series is back in full swing.
Huge, rolling hills. Vast, deep mountains. Lush, inescapable forests... it's all there.
Coming Summer 2013.
Rapturous applause.
Miyamoto thanks the guests, and that's it - we're left to anticipate the Nintendo U's 28th of August release date.

I think Nintendo is just waiting for the Apple hype to die down before showing some
new stuff. I do think they will reveal something soon.
