Wii U Speculation thread IV: Photoshop rumors and image memes

It was a great game but was last gen, I played it on Cube...

Hah… yes, I know. So did we. And we continued on playing it on Wii. Its dominance of our playtime maybe stopped a couple years ago. Its MapMaker alone probably added on two or three years of life and a combination of that and other aspects of the game pretty much left us with dearth of decent first person shooting that we could play together. Now the group just… I dunno, mostly watches TV shows and movies. We need TimeSplitters 4 to get our groove back!

I'm actually part of medical-imaging-in-general-GAF, and currently am a lowly intern at a PET-CT department.

Coo. That yer head, or is it just a stock image?

I haven't seen that one, thanks. GTAV a timed exclusive? Now that would be something else.
Given that Microsoft paid $50 million for timed exclusive DLC, it would have to be phenomenally expensive.
It would be an astonishing megaton, on par with the announcement of FFXIII for Xbox 360.
It's fun to think about, but it's obviously not happening.

Sadly, part of me thinks Nintendo would have to pay that much to get the game at all...

Nah, I think Rockstar will be happy to have another console to port it to. Their Wii output was decent enough (by major western third party standards).

but wasnt it rumored back in that time that MS paid Rockstar 50-75 million $ to get the game on 360 and to have exclusive DLC??
And wasnt that the reason also that the pissed Sony execs "forced" Rockstar to make something new exclusive for them??

BTW Nintendo should pay...

I found it in some .pdf file about MRI artifacts.

Go get your head zapped! Then you can see what you'd look like as a zombie!

Has it suddenly become 2010 again

In truth, it's not unthinkable that we could get this sort of face-tracking app, or even an enhanced port of this same game. It should even be better given the SD resolution and probably a higher level of precision on the camera (has the Wii U camera been detailed at all?).

I hope so. There's another part of me saying that Nintendo knows it's important and R* really has nothing to lose. It might be a late port, though.

Also, Nintendo should try to get Mario and Link outfits into the game.

Also, for Black Ops 2, exclusive Metroid zombies map. Yes.

I'm crazy.

We'll know when Reggie shows up at E3 sporting a GTA V tattoo. You know - to show the world how "hip" and with the times he is. You can check that box.

I think I would be surprised if Nintendo didn't make every effort to get the game on their system. I look at what NCL has done to secure major third party exclusives in Japan, and I look at Iwata waxing at investor meetings about needing a big Western franchise. It's up to R*, of course, but I can't imagine a scenario where Nintendo wasn't trying.

Can you imagine the craziness if Nintendo's E3 conference opened with a GTA V trailer?

I fear that Nintendo might be satisfied with Assassin's Creed and CoD. I think they're smarter than that, but you never know with Nintendo.

In that case, Reggie's new tattoo has to be a checklist with a box next to each item, in this format:
__ HD resolution
__ Online network
__ GTA V

Just got an idea for an on-stage sketch: Reggie and Iwata and Miyamoto are all comparing tattoos. Iwata has something kinda risque. Miyamoto has something a little bit more naughty, with a Nintendo twist. And then Reggie's tattoo can be revealed last as a big surprise.

Do it, Nintendo! Between the spotlights opening and this tattoo sketch, I'm writing your conference for you!

Agreed. We'll get a consolation prize game instead. Bully 3 or something like that.

Wow.. medical imaging GAF really represents up in the Nintendo threads. Impressive!

We're over 15% of the posts in this thread. Say, who was that other fellow we were--

*does quick google search*

Aha.

HylianTom, GameplayWhore, phosphor112, Hoo-Doo (ah, back then, too; I just forgot!). One of us did not survive to Thread IV (or got bored). :'(

We need a name that comes off the tongue better than "Medical Imaging GAF". Like… "RadioloGAF"?

I feel that Nintendo's strategy has been making it as easy as they possibly can for devs to work with them (within their own context and without sacrificing their philosophies about what their products should be) as well as spending money to reduce costs for developers (like with the genuinely shocking middleware deals) and publishers (by co-advertising, which they need to do more of). I am hesitant to believe that Nintendo would go and straight up bribe a company to port their game over. In fact, I don't even think they did this for Monster Hunter.

That said, I don't think they're using the Hiroshi Method anymore ("Oh, Square, so now you want to make games for our portable, eh?").

I'm partial to RadioloGAF. It has a nice rhythm to it.

And I sometimes wish that Nintendo would sometimes use a bit more brute financial force to get a key excusive once or twice per generation. They're in competition with two big boys who've thrown their non-gaming weight around in order to take mindshare and marketshare. Heck, one of them has basically bought its position in this industry. So if they truly do wish to go all-out in competing for third-party love (and I personally am hesitant about babying those #%*&!s), Nintendo would have to fight back a bit.

But I wouldn't want them to go crazy throwing-around bags of cash. Maybe do it just for games that'll either fill-in important genre gaps where Nintendo is weak, or for games that serve as punctuation marks on a year's release schedule.

I believe in Rockstar and Nintendo - its not a bad relationship

They brought (as Publisher and/or developer)

Nintendo 64

* Earthworm Jim 3D

GameCube

* Smuggler's Run Warzones

Wii

* Rockstar Games Presents Table Tennis
* Manhunt 2
* Bully: Scholarship Edition

Game Boy Color

* Grand Theft Auto
* Evel Knievel
* Grand Theft Auto 2
* Austin Powers: Oh Behave
* Austin Powers: Welcome to My Underground Lair!

Game Boy Advance

* Max Payne
* Grand Theft Auto Advance

Nintendo DS

* Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars

I dont think that it will be that crazy if GTA V comes to WiiU to be honest. GTA V is already multiplatform, so seeing a WiiU version would be more of a good surprise rather than something over-the-top crazy, in my opinion.

Oh, of course it's not "bad."

But I'll put it in terms of The Price is Right:
whenever Nintendo is a contestant at the Final Showcase, Rockstar's curtain comes up and it's a patio set with deluxe grill and a washer-and-dryer combo. Nice. Not great, not bad. Nice.

Meanwhile, when MS and Sony are contestants, Rockstar's curtain comes up and the Ferrari is there waiting for them.. every time.

Anybody see the thread about Rasmus Højengaard saying estricting sales of second-hand games 'would be awesome from business perspective'? Definitely makes me care even less regarding his "not a fat chance" comment for Crysis 3 showing up on Wii U.

Say, isn't there often One Sudden Leak that happens before the N-Conf each year, more or less? Like, 3DS leaked way early, and it couldn't be a surprise, so Nintendo press released it. Year before that we found about GoldenEye a couple days before the conference (though Nintendo still treated it like a surprise). I'd bring up Resident Evil 5, but that was M-Conf, and the leak happened two years before they surprised us with it at E3. ;)

So place your bets: What will be the "surprise" that leaks everywhere before E3 and possibly causes Nintendo to re-tool their conference?

I'm gonna say pretty hard evidence of whatever
(StarFox)
Retro is making a few days before E3. Or a screenshot of Capcom v Nintendo the evening prior to N-Conf. :O

Any takers?

Yeah, but wasn't their relationship with R* North bumpy?

Most likely a first party launch game. I'm going to try and avoid GAF and the internet for a week before E3. It will be rather tough, but I will do it.

GTAV at the Nintendo conference is one of my wild predictions. It will be on my bingo card!

I'm expecting this to happen since Rockstar hasn't announced any platforms for the game. It be a good opportunity for them to make a splash by having it announced for their system before any others. I wouldn't expect it to be exclusive, but having some sort of exclusive content is possible. They could try to take the MS route of trying to get the brand associated with their platform by having it announced at their conference and by having exclusive content.

Nintendo likely still see GTA as symbolic of "mature" gamers. I can almost see them spending so much time/money courting Rockstar, they neglected other important studios, which is why we've been hearing some disappointments w/ the coming seasons' big names . They're putting all their eggs in one basket, so to speak. If they can get Rockstar on board and GTAV to sell well on Wii U, it opens the gates for everything else eventually. Of course, if Nintendo failed in their persuasion w/ Rockstar, they've really got a problem on their hands.

I'm curious. Has Nintendo tried to pursue a GTA game before for their home console? I don't remember reading any interviews or rumors about a GTA game coming to a Nintendo home console until now, for the Wii U.

And I sometimes wish that Nintendo would sometimes use a bit more brute financial force to get a key excusive once or twice per generation.

I think that they were put off it during Gen 7 because of the disastrous results of trying something along those lines in Gen 6 with the "Capcom Five". Their philosophy coming from GameCube may very well have been "We did what the publishers told us. We made a super powerful system and tried to partner with them for exclusive games, and they disappointed. Capcom's games were low quality or appeared on other systems, often with more content. We gave* Square the keys to the Gameboy Advance in exchange for Final Fantasy, and they delivered something with the Final Fantasy name that was not Final Fantasy. It is clear this time that we must do something radical which shows that Nintendo can hold themselves up on its own. Then the other publishers will follow suit.".

So their initial attempts at throwing money around resulted in utter failure and a seeming need to be their own company, perhaps more than ever before. Now, winds have shifted again, so maybe we'll get what you were hoping for. :)

* in reality, this was extortion on Nintendo's part, but they likely did not see it as such

Wouldn't this particular example be more appropriate for Sony? ;)

You would need an Ultra Phoenix Down to revive the internet after the crash.

Really? GTA V being on four platforms instead of three is gonna crash the internet? Most people who had any interest these type of games already has a gaming pc, ps3 or 360.

Ha I can just imagine all the chaos that will ensue if Nintendo announces that finally GTA
IV
will be making its way to the Wii U, while GTA
V
is shown for the 360/PS3.

Has anyone ever had a moderately successful Nintendo bingo card?

The ones populated with mostly negative things, perhaps?

Like:

[ No GTA | No CoD | Chartz | Same case as last year | Same name ]
[ SSB no-show | Retro's game is lame | Kojima still absent | No haptics | still resistive ]
[ Camera ≤3MP | digital shoulder buttons | <Fart Space> | 3DS revision absent | TS4 only on PS360 ]
[ NN not planned for launch | analogs unclicky | puppies again | UbiSoft biggest supporter | Iwata bald ]
[ no colors | one DRC limit | stage demo failure | "on-par" | no launch window Mario/Zelda/Kart/Sports ]

Only if the Wii U version is announced as a timed exclusive.

I also wouldn't mind a sequel to Bully.

Yup!

In my wildest of fantasies, we'd see Nintendo's home console 98% supported by first- and second-party titles, with a random major title done in tandem with a trusted third-party. Then, the rest of the industry could go find whatever fate they're gunning for with the other two and I wouldn't care one whit what happens to 'em.

Wouldn't this particular example be more appropriate for Sony? ;)
George Foreman would approve! :)

Why is "no.haptics" and "no 3DS revision" things that would upset people? They aren't going to happen at E3 as is.

I agree. What the WiiU needs are exclusives from top developers.
Like Timesplitters 4.
They need to bring in a new gen of games.
