Wii U Speculation thread IV: Photoshop rumors and image memes

The original point of copyrights was two fold:
A) To give an inventor of something a monopoly on that thing so as to have an incentive for creating new things, thus encouraging innovation
B) To make the monopoly temporary so that the inventor will have to continue creating after profiting from their creation, thus again encouraging invention.

Originally, copyrights lasted a couple decades. That way, if you create something, the government guarantees that you have a reasonable chance of a profit without people pilfering your work. Then it expires, and you have to start being creative again. This went on fairly well until Disney created Mickey Mouse. They (and other, similar large organizations) lobbied pretty hard and created two changes:
A) Inventors don't have to be individuals. If you invent something, you are no longer guaranteed to have a monopoly over your work; instead, your employer is. (← this is a biased account and not entirely true, I admit, but I'm politicking here, so hush!)
B) [and this is the point applicable to my comment before] The length of government protection now lasts many decades past the death of the inventor.

Basically, the running gag is that every couple decades, we get close to the point where the copyright for most Mickey Mouse works would run out, so Disney lobbies to get the maximum amount of years of protection extended, thereby ensuring that even though the creator of the character has long since passed, other people who did not create the character retain control of the character.

Nintendo will most assuredly act in a similar fashion and attempt to ensure that nobody except for Nintendo employees can make a game with the character in it, even when the guy who made them has long since run into his Goomba. :/

ITT, stealth Libertarianism!

Think anyone that's against corporatism hates this shit, not just libertarians :p

At least fake Chinese Disney Land is kicking against the system.

Haha!

BTW.. that video? Wow. I didn't realize that it went that far.
I have to show a co-worker the link; he doesn't see the appeal in it quite yet. He's in that "I'll believe it when I see it" cap when it comes to game-related uses.

This is actually electrostatic haptics. The other video, cool as it seemed, was just a bunch of very tiny rumble packs.

edit: Watch the video at that link into the actual tech explanation. It's fuckawesome in principle.

I don't expect the Wii U's launch to match the pace of Wii (price is one good reason), but Wii U still needs its killer app at E3.

Blow everyone's minds at the conference

Watch stampede the following day

Gonzo launch sales

E3 2006 needs to happen again :(

E3 2012 confernce

Reggie-
New Metroid, new Zelda, New Mario, New Original FPS, racing simulator, Pic-min all avaible from day one. Thank you all for comming, I hope you enjoyed the the conference but before you leave did I mention that Day ONE IS TOMORROW!?

If nintendo wiiu will have haptic, then nintendo dogs and trauma center (imagine feeling the flesh, ewwww), both titles will be one hell of a killer app.

Nintendo could then proceed into making NintenoGals for Japanese men.

NintenHookers?
And for the ladies.. NintenManhos? (this one's a bit trickier.. hmm..)

Oh. I was thinking about them getting angry about lack of supply. That element didn't even cross my mind.

What kills me on that issue is that Nintendo's instructions are usually pretty darn good. Especially with them considering that this was to be sold to the inexperienced blue ocean crowd.

If my mother is typical of most mothers- and she really is- they have a tendency to be scared by technology from the outset, so the act of simply buying the thing can be super stressful, especially given how retail duders love to try and make the additional sale of things mums buying for children won't know shit about. (Actually, my mum is pretty good about just buying the thing and getting the hell out traditionally, but I've read plenty of clueless-parents-at-retail stories to know better than to assume my mum is altogether typical in that regard.) Nintendo is good at making clear-to-understand pieces of hardware, but that only goes so far with some folk.

And yeah, the lack of supply issue probably aggravates more so, you're right. I didn't even consider that, I was just thinking about technophobia.

Wait.. available for demo on the show floor, or for purchase?

I'd love for them to do a surprise-release in late summer. August or September sounds really good, although camping in hot, humid weather with other hot, humid Ninthings might not be as pleasant as camping in colder weather. But it would certainly throw the competiton's countermeasures into disarray a bit. :)

That would be amazing. Releasing a system immediately following E3 has never been tried before, and there is certainly no chance of it backfiring at all!

Nintendudes
Features a collection of masculine, strong willed men and not herbivore. Everything a Japaneese women really wants.

You know this needs to come with an extra wireless accessory?

I could honestly see Microsoft being an ass and delaying Halo 4 to the same weekend as Wii U's launch.

They're already tackling the annual CoD (is it Blops 2?), wonder if they'd fight a two front war like that for the sake of sticking it to Nintendo. My intuition tells me yes.. :lol

I don't want my WiiU to be region locked

I need LOVE PLUS WiiU

I think, this time around, Nintendo is threatening enough for them to take counter-measures. Gone are the days of Wii60 and "we don't consider them to be competition."

For purchase. Two weeks before we would get reports of mysterious yellow boxes with a question mark being supplied to retailers all over the world. It would be displayed behind the counter locked. Viewable by consumers but untouchable; nobody would know whats inside untill day one.

When do pre-orders usually go up for Nintendo stuff? After E3? I can't remember for the Wii or 3DS or DS or anything...

Wii was Friday, October 13th. Too soon before launch for my tastes.. I was antsy waiting for that day. After getting a preorder, I was more relaxed..

Nintendo announced the release date in mid-September.

Man.. I could see a series of news stories about attempted GameStop burglaries in that event..

Rule 34 has to do with google? We were having a laugh.

No, you're allowed to lack tits and still be in this discussion. I was talking about Rule 34. That's the one about it being sexy and on the Internet already.

edit: no fair, you edited your rule number before I clicked reply

It would be the most shocking move ever pulled in the game industry. The other two companies would be like, "what the hell just happened.. were fu**ed"

Also nintendo should stream there conference on MTV channel, or some other channel. At the end of the conference... Nintendo should moneyhat the main tv programs, to make a emergency type news broadcast saying that the Wii U is being released tomorrow with that that and that game.

I get the impression that Microsoft, umm, owns that TV channel. Especially after their 360 launch festivities.

Just a hunch.

Holy shit, you camped out for a piece of paper?

I just went to the store an hour before opening a week after the system came out. There were plenty.

Oh yes. Lots of us did. To have it over and done weeks in advance was a big stress relief. When I went in to pick up my stuff, the shop had it all in one big bag for me. It was a nice experience.

(and the store only had a small portion of the price: my deposit. I paid the rest on Launch Day.)

MTV is Viacom and they do have a long-term advertising relationship with Microsoft.

Having said that, Reggie Fils-Aime was Senior Vice President of marketing at VH1 (also Viacom), I'm sure Nintendo have the means and contacts to work with them too.

So what's the general consensus on redesigned console and/or controller come E3? Honestly, I don't expect any changes.

I Want them to have the console in landscape rather than portrait. Both my PS3 and 360 are in landscape and my Wii is the odd one out. I'd also like them to have 2 different coloured SKUs, a black U with a blue light would match my telly and PC.

I'd love to see them try that kind of thing, if only for the exposure that it would get among the demographic that Nintendo is seeking. But I have a feeling that the content would annoy me to no end, hehe..

Would be cool if the disc light could change colour.

I'd send my Wii U account emails, just to get it to light-up.. haha..

You ain't alone, I remember when I first got my Wii I was always asking my girlfreind to send me something, anything, to make that light pop on. Usually pictures of her cat :lol

Anyways, I'm hoping you could take the controller into your room and use it as an alarm-clock type thing. Have little updates you could scroll through while the Wii sleeps.

You should post that in this thread about the Baldur's Gate thing, where Oster claims that Wii owners only bought Wii Sports

Uh, YEAH...so any sympathy I felt for him/his company regarding their experience or any perception that he was only being blunt and honest just got tossed out the window. It's one thing to gripe about a personal experience with Nintendo but way to advertise your game to me the consumer by slapping me in the face and telling me all those countless hours I spent on my Wii were just with party games and my system is only a toy. Seriously, what's with the huge spike in deliberate ill will being directed at Nintendo and its fans lately by devs?

It's election year console launch year. What a time to be alive!
