Am I the only one who is always surprised at how low attach rates are. I mean throughout the life of a console the average person only buys 8-9 games?

I beat Paper Mario 64 about 20 times. I only had a few other games.

(Not saying the N64 had a poor library at all, though)

We're a small minority.

Most friends I have typically only buy 2-3 games a year, or buy used. (I imagine this would have an effect on ARs.)

I find it weird in a way that I'm part of the minority. I have at least 20+ games on each console/handheld I own.

Wii was the first console I ever had more than ten games for during the lifespan of the console (I have a bit mess of Atari 2600 games I got for virtually nothing about a decade ago) .

I do feel rather bad about my part in that. Hope it's not perma.

It was originally at least 2 months, but EviLore very quickly upgraded it to perm. He could have taken it out on others who (however jovially) helped fan the flames, like me, but he basically let the thread off with a warning and the shame of an improved title

I'm wondering. Are you primarily a PC gamer?

I have about 40 games for all my Nintendo consoles/handheld except the NES and Gameboys. I don't know why I keep buying games considering I don't finish half of them.

I had 30 Wii games and 40 360 games.

That all got stolen with the systems by an ex girlfriend and pawned.

:(

Sorry to hear. I hope you got compensated for them.

I have 18 games for the Wii and have in its lifetime sold 3. I bought 21 games brand new for $50 a pop.

That's over $1050 spent on wii games alone in the past 6 years...

I'm trying to think of what I would have rather spent that kind of money on...but aside from comic books or more video games, nothing really comes to mind. Hmmph. I don't know if I should be depressed over this or not.

I'm poor. Or rather, I have an aggressive saving ethic. Also, I like getting games with awesome replay value.

On my computer, I pretty much play infinite timesuck games like Civilization or Nethack.

Honestly, I buy about 5 or 6 games per year, which I hear is on the low end around here at NeoGAF. I research the hell out of every game I buy, mainly getting games that I am certain I'll love ("Let's Play ____" videos on YouTube are very influential on whether or not I grab a game). And if I really end-up loving the game, I'll 100% it and then play through it again.. and again.. and again. Then, I'll go back to it later on in the future!

Really, I'm a part of Nintendo's problem. For them, ideally, I'd play through the game and immediately move on to the next one. But I dwell on the ones I buy way too much.

I feel you. I kind bought most of my SNES/N64 games as soon as I got my first job which was a few years ago.

I'm the same way with PC games. It's always Civ and Elder Scrolls. Civ has gotten especially evil with the ease of mods on Steam. And Oblivion has been especially evil; I plan on devoting two whole months this year to one last adventure in Cyrodil before this generation wraps-up.

Those two series are what I play when I'm not replaying one of my older games for the umpteenth time.

Wow, that's like four or five vacations for me. :O

edit: maybe more. The five day Burns I go to cost fifty bucks plus a tank and a half of gas and a few days worth of very cheap nosh, and that's at least twice a year!

I'll say it. N64 had a poor library.

*goes to bed*

i've bought 74 3DS games in the last year. Do the maths, make me cry.

Man its sad that this site will melt into a molten slag on the floor of whatever server room it exists in when E3 hits.

It's gonna be GLORIOUS.

A new Nintendo home console E3 happens about twice per decade. These times here on NeoGAF are to be cherished. You will see the best of and the worst of people around here during such a time; it'll make for fantastic drama!

Yeah, it's going to be one of the best E3s in memory, even if it's terrible.

No, wait, especially if it's terrible!

My E3 prediction:
I'm going to be an ass.

Moreso than usual.

Despite the volume of big-budget AND quality movies and how important box office revenue is to studios, the per-capita rate of people going to movie theatres yearly (which is the closest equivalent to console attach rates I can find) is just less than 5 times. Considering how much more accessible movies are seen to be than games, that's a SMALL ratio. So the attach rate doesn't surprise me when games are so much more of an up-front investment.

Honestly, I can't imagine it being terrible. Could the script be cheesy? Sure. But the substance is there.

And if the other two don't reveal new consoles, I could see a lot of folks who'll end-up being very frustrated and antsy for next-gen to arrive. They could voice that frustration here. :)

I meant E3 in general. I hope Konami doesn't disappoint me here.

Oh, in general? Absolutely. It could be an absolute disaster for everyone but Nintendo and the companies bringing big titles to the U and 3DS. There doesn't seem to be as much excitement around the industry right now, outside of a certain new console launch.. we could see a lot of anger and fighting and temper tantrums as a result around here.

GLORIOUS!

I need to track down a copy of TTYD because I lost mine and never beat it because of that. I was in the chapter after the wrestling one or whatever.

You should definitely do that. I don't remember much from Paper Mario 64 or TTYD so it feels fresh replaying through the game now.
