It then won't be next gen *enough*. That's why they've been sitting on that "transitional" keyword for the past couple months. It's the backup plan in case the system is too fast for "on par". ;)

This. I'm expecting this to happen as much as I don't want it to. People are gonna complain regardless.

What a nice dog. :)

Even though I still have a fear of dogs from an experience as a kid, he looks so friendly.
He'd scare the crap out of people, but never, ever hurt a fly. Very much a gentleman, and women friggin' loved him. :)
And he was the best gaming buddy I've ever had. 12-hour marathon? No problem! He'd be there on the couch next to me, or at my feet on the floor.

Hopefully they got some good examples.
I fully expect various gaming media outlets to do side-by-side "Guess the Wii U Screenshot" articles.

So I've just found out that I don't have to work from June 1st to June 5th ^_^

When is Nintendo conference exactly??

Either that, or it'll be deemed a "half-step." Which is quite powerful, but still, it's Nintendo, so let's use it as an excuse to sneer..

well next to what? every fan boy going to say that when Wii U out and other two are not it only when other come out we find out really, I really dont give a shit as long as the games are good

But if anyone think a game that looks better is better need a slap, I'll play a game that looks like shit long before i play a game that plays like shit we dont get this BS with handholds

I think everyone imagines the execs at MS/Sony sitting in a boardroom somewhere smirking and nodding their heads at one another knowingly, going "we're going to destroy Nintendo with our next hardware" As if it's in their nature to be inherently bent on power, and not in their nature to be inherently stupid.

Lucky guy! (I've taken the 5th & 6th off. Gotta watch the reaction & analysis. So much fun!)

If I were a betting man? Tuesday, June 5th, 11AM, PST.

Just going off of past Nintendo patterns..

I need to track down a copy of TTYD because I lost mine and never beat it because of that. I was in the chapter after the wrestling one or whatever.

Want mine? I honestly played the Paper Mario series and didn't like it, but I still have it. We can swap, if we aren't too far away.

.

Well dont let him near any cops on duty.

Wait I thought Microsoft & Sony planned to go on the 3rd so Nintendo will be on 4th? :/

(I have to watch all of them)

There are 74 3DS games?

....

That said, I have like 10.

....

Have you managed to play some of them?

I've managed to play a good deal of them at least briefly - i'm terminally addicted to collecting 3DS though - i really am enamoured by the platform and as -fucking annoying- as i find some of the fanbase it doesn't detract from -my- enjoyment of the platform because i've managed to detune people out :D #go-me! ;)

I went into this elsewhere but the disaster out here in Japan, a weekend+ of changed circumstances, and a lonely hotel room helped reinforce a bond between me and the 3DS. <3 <3 3DS <3 <3

I doubt it'll be anywhere close to a half step. *shrug*

I've been skeptical throughout, way before others jumped on that bandwagon. Now I'm more certain than ever.

been saying for months that the power is largely a non-factor - as long as a certain HD baseline is met there is little/no reason for Nintendo to go to the "half step"

tick the base boxes and then just get the content out. The upgrade delta for Wii only players is going to be absolutely NUTS.

Sorry if this has been posted.
Trent Oster strikes again.....

For the Wii U, I once again don't get it. I'm having a hard time seeing how a
tablet controller & console system is going to be revolutionary. I could be wrong, but I think the gaming world has changed irrevocably and there are now two fronts: Triple A
console titles which resemble blockbuster movies and freemium/app store titles
which are closer to television. The triple "A" titles cost a ton to develop and there is a
market for the best of the breed, with the major brands doing huge numbers but
many titles not even breaking even.

Blockbuster AAA game's are shallow most are about 5 hours long and You move onto next, i can see that getting worst with next gen, Too many game devs think games are movies makers and dont think about the gameplay

So I'm assuming that everything can be played on the controller? I hope so. Who needs a 3ds when I can play , OoT , SM64, Starfox 64 on the controller while I watch TV or on the toilet (bathroom is in my room)

It's not the hardware that has to be "revolutionary". It's the software - the application of the hardware. Nintendo has proven this time and time again, with WiiSports being the latest example in the console market. That this particular person can't come up with an engaging application for the hardware says less about the hardware and more about him as a developer (with a grudge).

Trent Oyster: I'm having a hard time thinking outside the box(what I hear him saying).

I hope this isn't the Wii all over again where developers few and far between make inventive use of the controller and the rest just halfass it.

I mean I don't mind less ambitious uses like maps and huds and the like but hopefully, there are ingenious ideas as well.

So it's haters gonna hate

Unless Nintendo pulls a miracle and ends up with the most powerful tech of the 3, haters will say well their games and third parties are better

U can't win cuz they want Nintendo to lose

It amazes me how uncreative some developers are. But I guess if you make a living porting games and making cheap rip offs, you really aren't one for originality...

I have 18 games for the Wii and have in its lifetime sold 3. I bought 21 games brand new for $50 a pop.

That's over $1050 spent on wii games alone in the past 6 years...

I'm trying to think of what I would have rather spent that kind of money on...but aside from comic books or more video games, nothing really comes to mind. Hmmph. I don't know if I should be depressed over this or not.

So, somewhere out there is someone with a Wii and no games to play on it because you bought theirs!

I'll probably stream it at work. If I state home I'd be on NeoGAF all day spazzing out.

Are you guys planning to use your GAF handles on your Wii U account?
Probably not, I will likely use my go to handle that I've used for about 15 years, as boring and un creative as it is.
How dull is this bloke.

Surely by providing this TOUCH SCREEN TABLET controller, then Nintendo is moving itself into both these markets?
He's bitter that's for sure.

Who's ready for the next industry crash? I am.

Either companies are going to learn to keep budgets more reasonable for most games or this whole thing just blows up in everyone's faces. I honestly can't see it going any other way. Games are selling less and are costing more to produce. What could possibly go wrong?

And seriously, this Oster guy is a shovelware creating dullard. Stop posting what he says. He should probably stop complaining about Nintendo's policies and concentrate more on, I dunno, making quality products? How's that for a business model?

I really don't see how that's going to be possible if they actually use the tablet for anything useful.

I am not sure if this is the case with Nintendo platforms.

I mean, let's say RE: Revelation; it sure sold poorly, I guess life time will not be 500K? However, I also think the budget (at least excluding marketing) has been low too

For Virtual Console titles, it's more than likely that they'll be playable on the controller. There's no reason to believe that won't be the case.

For Wii U titles, Nintendo said last E3 that it's going to be up to developers how they use the controller. They're not going to make demands on how it should be used - if at all. For their 1st/2nd party content, I gotta think they'll let you play with the controller alone. 3rd parties can do whatever works for them.

I really don't see how that's going to be possible if they actually use the tablet for anything useful.

That's the all purpose of the thing so it's possible, but like saif just above, it's up to the developers. You code what you want, you just have the interface and button layout, you do whatever you want. It just like the 3D slider on the 3DS. I think developers can very well use it for something entierely unrelated to the 3D effect. Vice-versa, look at the d-pad functionnality in SM3DLand: pop-in or pop-out 3D. Programmers can switch off the 3D by pushing start or A if they want!

Now, for the Upad: A 3 way switch can be the norm:
- Mode normal: Action (1) on TV, action/menus (2) on Upad;
- Switch mode A: Action (1) on Upad, action/menus (2) on TV;
- Switch mode B: Action (1) on background on Upad; action/menus (2) in a popup on the Upad (just like the one player mode in Four Swords Adventures); Dashboard or nothing on TV.
Push the switch again and you're back to "mode normal".
