Wii U Speculation thread IV: Photoshop rumors and image memes

Har har har! The guy at the Wii U mock-up (et al) website says he's going to post in this thread once his account clears with the mods.

Little does he know that the mods almost certainly aren't going to be bringing any more user until at least after E3.

Funny thing is he seems to already be a member (for at least a year), but for some reason he can't post and he's not banned from what I understand. I tried to help him get in contact with the right people a little while back, but looks like he still can't get in.

I'm seriously on board for a GAF member powered Nintendo site. Dunno if I'll have time to contribute a lot for editorials though (maybe I could draw a few cartoons, I'm pretty good).

But, anyway, my point is that Nibel finally gets credit for his copyright-infringing art. ;)

The only thing that bothers me on that page is that there is an official Zelda Wii U picture next to a dozens mock-ups :lol

But hey, the more that join the ride the more fun we will have!

Hrm? I opened up several of the mockups (and there's only 13 total that I can see, not dozens) and didn't see anything like you describe. Am I looking in the wrong place?

Yeah, my account took a while to activate, but some of the time spans I'm hearing get thrown around are truly ridiculous. Reminds me of what a privilege it is to post here...Or is it a curse?

Props to those who are taking the initiative to get the website thing going! I'd love to contribute. Though some of my posts may not indicate it (I've got a reply first; edit later philosophy), I've been told I'm quite the capable writer.

Ohh, ohhhh, I thought there was some sort of new pic I hadn't heard of that's situated in like a sidebar of the site. The "next to" in your description just threw me off.

I would like to reiterate that I am a particular fan of AniHawk's idea about having a video game fact-checking site that is not limited to Nintendo. That's actually something that is sorely needed in this industry. Heck, do a good job of it, and it could actually grow to the point of being considered authoritative among Internet newsmongers. How cool would that be?

There are several dozen Nintendo fan sites. That angle is pretty covered.

edit: "gafcheck.org"?

one last chance:

a 'correct-news' website for nintendo news and rumors by forum posters from neogaf

nintendo is not worth your time and effort to do something like this. again, i think a general fact-checking site would be far more valuable.

edit: thanks gameplaywhore

Thirded (or fourthed, or however many).

A "Videogame Snopes" would be a fantastic resource. A "Nintendo Snopes" would be ignored or seen - rightly, I think - as a defensive reaction from over-involved fans.

A Gaf powered Nintendo site... just like the gypsy said...

AniHawks idea is more appealing to me. If a vid game fact-check site caught on in a big way, it would be fun to watch various mainstream avenues readjust accordingly.

But there are already too many gaming websites that cover console gaming in general. This NintendoGAF website should counter all the "Bullsh*t news" about Nintendo that everybody seems to post without checking if its true.

I wouldn´t even be surprised of alot if general gaming websites/fans from other console manufactures would LOVE Nintendo to die and choke on its blood while doing so. This is very sad but unfortunately, very true!

Nintendo fans need an unbiased and warm "home" for news regarding their console maker of choice.

Having a Website from NintendoGAF people will be awesome because the NintendoGAF community is the biggest community and has the most "normal" fans. With "fans" i mean guys who love Nintendo but can appreciate the competition. Starting discussions about diffrent consoles without it ending in a bash festival.

This is what makes the speculation threads so interesting.

The sh*tstorm of trolls runining the thread/s when anything negative about Nintendo is reported, is highly annoying on this forum!

I know some people on GAF aren't too giddy on the idea that the first Mario released on Wii U will be a NSMB-style one, but from a marketing stand point, it's amazing. 2D Mario sells more than 3D ones (at least in Japan), so MAYBE having one at launch/launch window/first year would be amazing for the console.
If they are going to launch a Mario game with the Wii U it will definitely be a 2D one. It will definitely push units, but for some reason I think they should call it something other than NSMB so that people who own a Wii won't get it confused and think they own that title already.

I'd love to help with the site. I really enjoy graphic art, so I might be able to assist with icons and banners as well.

I hope the mods don't think we're going rogue and decide to ban

Sure sure. I'm not sure how you consolidate "unbiased" with "warm" but I'm sure there is a plan.

If you guys enlist Jokeropia to put factual smack down on haters, I promise I'll give ya some hits. Cause that cat is funny, in a cold and brutal, calculated way. Definitely knows his shit.

Let's change the discussion a bit.

What franchise/ip would be like to see make a return on the Wii U? I know a lot of people here are going to name Startropics, StarFox or F-Zero. How about something other than these.

If N-Space can pull a Geist 2 with supervision from Nintendo I would love to see another entry.

Wave Race is a must and I would LOVE to see a new Pilot Wings similar to Pilot Wings 64. I want some crazy side activities.

A new Mario Golf would be nice as well and I think the Wii U controller would lend itself well to it.

This is easy.
1080, Wave Race, Ice Climber (honestly they could so something amazing with this series if they tried), Geist and Chibi Robo!
Bring 'em back home Nintendo!

Blast Corps. Holy shit, first person view on the DRC and regular view on the TV. Or regular view on the DRC with "roving reporter helicopter" sweeping news coverage on the TV.

And, yes, I know why that can't happen. So they'll just have to take Wrecking Crew and retool it into a Blast Corps clone.

Easy, StarTro--

Oh you motherf... :P

Mystery at Murasame Castle, Earthbound, 1080 Snowboarding, Wave Race... Honestly, all the ones I could name are named already.

Chibi-Robo and Mach Rider.

Stunt Race FX by Monster would be pretty cool.

It'll be interesting to see if it gets the Super Mario 4 name they registered or if that's reserved for the 3DS game (which I hope has a new art style).

You do know Rare ow...

Carry on.

I know they probably won't change it due to it selling a lot on the Wii, but wouldn't keeping the same name and art style confuse people who own the game? I'd love for it to be called Super Mario 4 or anything but NSMB.

I'm too lazy to read through every post of this insane clusterfuck, so could someone tell me just how this "fact checking" would work?

http://www.politifact.com/ ← look at this

Basically, each page/node is a claim that has been made by a news site or analyst or random blog/forum, and it gets a rating of True or False or something in between along with an explanation (with citations so that people can verify the actual facts) for why the claim is true or false (or something in between).

And the claims are all tagged and dated so that the main site can organize them properly.

StarTropics would be really interesting to see in an open world. Earthbound revival would be great and could help us finally get the compilation release we've been wanting (just edit the supposed Beatles-like music already to shut up the NOA lawyers!)

.....so could someone tell me just how this "fact checking" would work?
