Wii U Speculation thread IV: Photoshop rumors and image memes

This is propably the official bootup screen for the WiiU.

This Image... in Full HD... on 50" :D

Acutally, it'll be a remix video of Reggie/Iwata/Miyamoto breakdancing around the new console name as it starts-up. Kinda like a triute to Nintendo's 1980s days (mountain of cocaine not included).

I've said too much, haven't I?

I'd rather Endless Ocean 3, where I can explore the ruins.. if it weren't for the pressure.

I got it. Best game idea EVER!

GTA5? Mario WiiU? Halo 4?

NOTHING compared to MY game...

"Tower Defense" style game where you have to strategly place ice bergs to stop the titanic from reching her destination.... Yes i am sick and my humor is VERY Black...

I'd love it - but the soundtrack has to have parody music done by a Celine Dion impersonator.

Hope you like it.

I'm with you guys. It's just the desperation. I have to have something to hold onto, even if that means just looking at mock-up artwork...

Why Sega? Why?

I'm with yah. What hurts even worse is my copy of Jet Grind Radio was lost to a college floormate, who took the liberty of lending it to his friend. He offered me Crazy Taxi in return, but I already had it.

You'd think I'd learn my lesson, but no. Years later, I left my Dreamcast in the apartment of one of my best friends, who proceeded to throw it in the dumpster when he was moving. He couldn't figure out what to do with it, so he just threw it away.

...I need a drink.

So.. I haven't followed Nintendo of America on Twitter before. Have they ever tweeted this kind of tease before? And if so, what was the result? Anyone know?

Well, the camera is able to do facial recognition, consider this an official feature that will be present on the Wii U. With an efficient program, i bet it would not use a lot of resources, for the system to see if you are focusing on the TV or on the padlet.

I can think of several methods, through eye-tracking (easy to spot if your eyes are seeing the DRC or not), face shape-recognition (your head will have different volumes & proportions for the camera depending on what you're watching), etc.
It could be programmed, or even better, calibrated to your physiognomy and setting. I could be in the sofa, the padlet in my belly, me in front of the TV, and i'll teach the software to spot the difference between my head focusing on the main screen (with let's say, a XX° degree angle from the camera) or the padlet.

And then, developers choose which type of graphical sacrifices for the screen that you're not watching, like intensive blur, low details mode, etc.
My experiences with face recognition on the DSes doesn't give me very much confidence in this. Especially as someone who usually plays consoles in a darker room.

The article is interesting in that it plays with ideas. The only part that I really disagree with is the assertion that losing money on consoles has been a winning strategy. From everything that I can tell, the strategy has put MS and Sony collectively in the red (at least for their console businesses) over the past decade.

Although, truth be told, I'd love to see how a $200 Wii U fucks with the strategies put forth by MS and Sony. Especially if it gets a nice 20 mil unit head start worldwide before the others launch.

I'm guessing NoA will tweet about announcements that concerns us.

So don't expect any tweets from NoA anytime soon, folks.

One thing I don't understand though is the lack of leaks. It really is amazing.

As we move forward, development is starting to be off shored more to places like India where you have development teams in the 100s.

You'd think one of these developers would leak, someone like a fresher straight out of college...

Maybe theres nothing to leak mang.

Jet Set Radio box tortures me so.

On another note, I really want to see The World Ends With You hit this system. Thanks Nomura for making me relive my E3 2011 hype for the system again from a casual mention:

*Wii U controller comes up during presentation*

Sensible Azure: Oh, that's cool it's a touch screen controller that can be used for some seeing eye window shenanigans. That could open up some new possibilitie--

Hyped Azure: STOP FUCKING EVERYTHING, THIS IS A TWEWY MACHINE, WOLRD AM ENDING WITH U MUST HAPPEN, WHERE ARE MY MEDS?!!

They are the best (read: cruelest) in the business at what they do. I mean, MS and Sony tend not to tease.. they just say, "hey dudes! Like, we got, like, some stuff for y'alls broskis to enjoy and stuff! Totally radical awesome! Check it out!"
(it's a parody. I have a Nintendorks version as well.)

Awful & annoying teasing is the new trend this year /flex

btw, the Nintendo Direct will happen very early in the morning here, i hope we'll have a nice sum-up in the dedicated thread :)

Is it just me or is this thread going even quicker than the last one with even less info? We'll be on thread 7 or 8 by e3 at this rate

Do I really need to paste the fifty-seven news items and particular posts of insight that have cropped up during the roughly one week of this thread's existence?

What's all this haptics talk I'm seeing? Wouldn't that make the controller too expensive?

Electrostatic Haptics (Senseg-style, not to be confused with multi/micro motor haptics) is something that has not shown up in dev kits at all but would be compelling (in a Wii/DS/3DS E3 stampede manner) and just technologically possible in the consumer space at this point and time.

It is extremely unlikely to happen, but I like to hype it up anyway. :)

I wonder if they could somehow release it as an add-on some time after Wii U is already out, rumble pack style. I'm picturing a clear glass/plastic which fit over the padlet screen. I still see this as an extreme long shot, and I have no idea if it's even technologically possible.

That's really not something that you can "add on".
