Wii U Speculation thread IV: Photoshop rumors and image memes

there really hasn't been an actual followup to super mario bros. 3 so if nsmb2 does that, that would be super awesome.

i think the ability to fly would kill multiplayer. i just don't see how it works well with the wii u game. the wii u game will have to be more like nsmbw or else there will be lots of deaths and confusion.

or maybe the wii u game will support four controllers, and you will be able to run while another flies, and another goes down a warp pipe, and the 3ds will substitute in as a controller if you don't have another upad.

I think the WiiU Mario will just be a port of the 3DS game with like a few upgrades like Miis and maybe co-op if that's not in the 3DS version.

Seems too risky to release two new 2D Marios that close together.

This is an excellent point. If there's flight in NSMBMii, it will most likely necessitate some type of 3DS cross play.

what Nintendo needs next is THEMES

imagine allowing you to make the folder icon look like Zelda Treasure Boxes or Mario Question Blocks?

Yes! It's so easy and so obvious and only results in a more modern image for Nintendo. There's got to be someone telling Iwata this stuff if he hasn't thought of it himself.

oh man, I am in Super Mario Bros overload right now.

If Nintendo gets wild and includes a LBP-esque level builder, they will have to build new banks to store all the yen.

And I don't buy the bullshit about user created content "devaluing the brand" either. If there is a "Mii World" you access from the menu, it does no damage to the brand. BRING IT NINTENDO.

If they do go for NSMB on the WiiU I just hope they have new art, and proper world or smb3 physics. I'd also very much appreciate they don't name it Mii. It can have Miis as an option, but why name it that? That sounds awful.

Why wouldn't they make us of a dedicated sound chip when optimising there engine?
It's explained on the site, actually. The hardware and software pipelines have different featuresets and use different algorithms - they don't behave or sound the same. The Wii U software pipeline is meant for easy and cheap ports and multiplatform development.

NSMB 2 coming for 3DS in August

NSMB Mii coming for Wii U in October/November/December 2012

Those two games WILL sync up for cross platform play. No doubt about it. If Wii U is November, they won't have to worry about eating into each other's sales.

How do they not have to worry about eating into each other's sales if they are just 3 months apart?

Listening to Invisible Walls (Gametrailers) and they said a lot of people are going to be surprised with the Wii-U launch games.
Surprised dessert.
Here's the quote...
Shane Satterfield said:
One thing that i can say without getting in any trouble is that the launch line-up for the Wii U is going to surprise people. It's going to be pretty damn good.

Which episode?
Today's.

I think it's about 12 minutes in, after they talk about Ni No Kuni.
What's interesting is that Shane comments that there doesn't seem to be much Japanese support, but a lot of western support. This is because a Namco exec he spoke to at their recent Vegas show wasn't talking (and I'm guessing he also took note of Kojima's Project Ogre comments), but Daniel Bloodworth brought some common sense by pointing out that Japanese developers are probably following Nintendo's lead and keeping their mouths shut until E3.
So, whatever launch games he's referring to are western.

ports ports ports ports ports ports ports ports ports!

i'm gonna let electronic arts ride in the launch seat today because they're good guys with ports!

I'm not sure Shane would consider third-part ports to be a "pretty damn good" launch-line up.

ESPECIALLY not Shane.

Considering they've been drawing from Super Mario Bros 3 more and more since NSMB, it would be a good bomba if the 2D Wii U lanch title, Super Mario 4, was a significant evolution from that formula. Here's dreaming NSMBMii was but a mere masque.

What do you mean? I don't watch/listen to the show regularly, so I have no idea what kinds of tastes he has.

I think somebody in this thread said the PS3 used less than 128MB. The Wii U dev kits are currently supposed to have ≥512MB allocated for system functions.

PS3 started at 120MB split across the XDR and GDDR3, and I think 360 started at 64MB.

Sorry, didn't see these posts. Wow @ the supposed Wii amount.

Okay, forgive the possibly dumb question, but when you're playing a game on any of these systems, does the game theoretically utilize all the RAM inside the system? In other words, the PS3 has 512 total MB of RAM, some of which is used by the OS. But once you start playing, say, God of War 3 or whatever, is the console then utilizing all 512 MB of RAM?

I'm probably phrasing this horribly...
