I expect Nintendo to kick a lot of ass at E3.
But I don't think E3 is enough to shut critics up. Most of the criticism for Wii came after 2008, 2 years after Wii had launched.
Nintendo's job needs to assure gamers that Wii U will be amazing for the next 5 years. For N64, GameCube, and Wii, we experienced huge software droughts for long amounts of time. After going through this with 3 consoles, they need to figure out a way to better deal with software droughts. And that's why third party games are important. Third party games solve the software droughts when Nintendo's games aren't ready.
That said, I think that Nintendo fans will be wowed - and few others.
I love the name! It sounds like a Nintendo news show on the liveplay channel that would be run twice or thrice per week. Community interest stories (typical stories like Mario wedding cakes and Zelda-themed nurseries), gaming news, reviews, commentary, analysis, interviews, etc.GameCenterCX!
Part of me honestly thinks that some gaming media outlets see this as their chance to smother it while it's in its infancy, at least with the core crowd. Don't want a repeat of the whole Wii episode, now, do we? The Wii got some core purchasers in addition to its large casual base, and embarrassed them big-time. They all predicted its failure, they mocked it and turned their snooty hardcorier-than-thou noses up at it, and they ended-up looking ridiculous.
My personal opinion? I hope it rocks the world. Nintendo would solidify its financial standing, and as a huge bonus, it would embarrass these.. persons.. all over again.

Sounds really solid. The more I think about it, the more I want just a general Nintendo Channel, with liveplays being a major featured element of the programming schedule.
Hmm.. maybe. It's easy to root for Nintendo to stick it to the graphics naysayers.. I can certainly understand that desire. And honestly, it's easier to show-off visuals in a conference than substance. One thing I think is flawed is many fans will look for great visuals over great design.
I doubt Nintendo will fail to prioritize in this manner but I'm looking for very good looking games that try to better the game design of yesteryear.
I have a feeling many will be looking for flash over substance at this E3.
If you don't have a 3DS it's pretty easy to tell what's wrong with you and what you need to do to change it.
Immediately!
Ice actually helps!
So if I don't have multiplayer games is it any use to add you on 3ds? do you swapnote? ;D how would i go about getting peoples codes, the thread was said to be pretty abandoned? mine is 4081-6450-5195 aadddd meeee~*lonely* I don't kno why I have a female Mii (it's because cat ears looked lame on a male one :{ If you want so see my awesome catvatar addu~ mii)

Sup?
I think the gaming outlets tried to do the same with the 3DS.... It failed.
Nintendo is the unwanted redhead stepchild of the gaming industry.
I did add you, then I sent you a PM with my friend code ):
just incase you're too lazy to go there here it is again d:

GameCenter CX is that show that ran after one of the Nintendo Direct's. It's also available in the japanese 3DS e-shop, it's a guy (sorry don't know him is he a comedian or smth?) plays virtual console titles for a short time to promote them. He also royally sucks at most of them which is the charm of the whole thing hehe.
Sup?
Ahh, that makes much more sense.I just mean peoples' impressions of the show(Nintendo fans actually).
All this speculation on the power, the wishy washy comments from third partys, the haters, HD, etc...
I hope fans of the company aren't just looking to see pretty to justify anything and aren't blinded by what makes Nintendo special.
Ahh, that makes much more sense.
I hope we're willing to hold Nintendo's feet to the fire. Just because it looks pretty doesn't mean that's enough.
The good thing? We're a pretty pucky bunch when it comes to games.![]()
And hello Thraktor![]()
Great post. I did read somewhere, on the back of a napkin, that IBM has some neat things in store for an updated Altivec on future consoles of some kind.
At what time will we get the results?
I think the gameplay of the games will shine more than the graphics, just hope fans don't get lost in the tech bullshit to let it bother them.
Well it's been noted before but: Nintendo really wasn't sure if the DS and Wii would work and they didn't want to like...die or smth, so they did what they did. Now they're stuck between a rock and a hard place because DS&Wii not only worked but exploded, and while they now can confidently make a powerful system like that, it would actually be a on-savvy decision if they can make a cheap system and dominate like that. DS&Wii were too successful for their own (or well our) sake.
Damn, that's gonna be frustrating as all hell if all I want to do is dissect a game trailer while more folks are hung-up on petty shit like teraflops.. ugh..I expect fans to get lost in the tech bullshit. And I'll tell you why.
Before Wii came out, Iwata personally said that Wii wouldn't be much more powerful than the GameCube. So people already knew what to expect in graphics when 2006 rolled up. People assumed no more powerful than 2x a GameCube. So when E3 2006 came, all of the focus was on the motion controller and the games.
Wii U is a different situation.
Nintendo isn't telling gamers that Wii U won't be a huge leap over current consoles (unless we want to count the Miyamoto quote as evidence). Nintendo isn't clarifying how powerful the console is.
So when E3 comes, all we will hear about is the tech and spec bullshit because Nintendo refuses to give us hard specs or tell us straight up what the console's graphical capabilities are.
So I fully expect tech talk and spec talk to completely distract from the games being shown. Which is really sad, but Nintendo is setting themselves up to be in that position. If they refuse to clear up the graphics debate, then conversation about their game lineup will continue to be distracted by spec/tech talk.
Which is why I'm so heavily advocating that they get ready for the prospect of supporting their console pretty much on their own self-built ecosystem.... it's not wholly implausible that the ill will accumulated by those past decisions will just prove too great to overcome.
I just want ambition with new and old franchises. Wasn't enough for me on Wii.
If anyone else wants to add me. Feel free. I have room for about 20 more. LOL

I actually have GameCenter CX Swapnote stationery. I can send it if you like.
There you are! Showing up right before the apocalypse, how could you?
There you are mister. We've missed you, and you've missed dinner.
We were worried sick!
Thanks. I'd certainly expect some decent upgrades. The Gamecube's Gekko CPU had something in the region of 50 gaming-specific instructions added over the base PPC750 (and even some incredibly rudimentary SIMD capability), and the XBox360's Xenon had the heavily gaming-optimised VMX128 unit, so I'd expect IBM to have come up with some fairly neat stuff in the seven years since then.
I should be getting to bed, but a quick note on the investors' presentation/Q&A. Nintendo are going to be announcing their first annual loss in recent memory, so they'll be looking to put out some good news at the same time to counteract it. This won't necessarily be the sort of good news we might be looking for (like "Retro is making [insert cult NES game] sequel for Wii U"), but rather news that improves their fiscal outlook. We had a few of these at the last one, such as NSMB 3DS, Wii U NFC support and info on DLC/downloadable games, etc. Each of these is basically a way of saying to markets "Look at this thing that's going to help us make more money!" As this is their annual financial report, you can expect any announcements to be in the same vein, but bigger.
We won't get any Wii U game announcements, as E3 is the far more suitable venue for that kind of thing, but we might well get info on hardware or OS functionality or partnerships with non-gaming companies of any kind. More info on online functionality is a possibility, or confirmation of GC/Wii on VC and/or downloadable HD versions. A lot of that kind of stuff would get lost at E3 amongst all the game reveals, so they may even see this as an opportunity to reveal a load of it before E3.
Edit: We'll also get 3DS news, of course. In fact, if I were to make a crazy prediction, it would be that they'll announce download sales of retail games, with the new firmware update paving the way for the first ones to arrive in the next few days. The first games on it would be launch-window titles that aren't really selling anymore, but it'd get better down the line (so long as prices are reasonable).

Which is why Nintendo should just release the target specs and be done with any confusion. It creates too much unnecessary attention on that aspect when it's not made 100% clear. With that out of the way we can get into more in-depth relevant speculation on games, services, and realistic uses for the controller. But yeah, it creates a lot of messy assumption and confusion with them being all mysterious about it.
I expect to see a lot of show time at E3 to center around stuff we don't really care about too. New casual/family titles, Nintendogs Wii U, casual apps, and otherwise Reggie hyping up stuff nobody who's there has any interest in. I also think they need to devote at least a full 10-15 stage minutes to detailing the online component.

Oh yeah! This post gives me hope. And hype.
Oh yeah!
Gonna find something out very soon! Woohoo!
Exactly.
Personally I wish Nintendo would just get the graphics shit out of the way right now. If Wii U isn't a huge leap then they need to come out and say "Look, it's not a big leap over current consoles".
That way gamers can focus on the games, online service, and the controller at E3 instead of debating over whether Wii U games look like next gen games or current gen games.
Nintendo can't let this graphics talk distract from the amazing software and controller capabilities.
My peanuts are ready.
As badly as I want info, I don't think they would try to justify themselves to anyone about marginally better hardware if that is indeed the case. What business would do that to itself?

My official prediction for big news out of the investors conference is: eShop.
eShop on smart phones. Transition to Nintendo Network accounts. Retail downloads. More DLC. More Apps. More "Look investors, we are making more high margin digital products and it's easier than ever to buy."
And maybe a general idea for launch of Wii U.

The pigeon combined with the speculation makes me genuinely happy, at a not so happy time of year.
They did it with the Wii. They came straight out 6-12 months before E3 2006 and said "Wii isn't about graphics. It's about gameplay."
E3 2006 rolled up. This kept people's expectations of what Wii's graphics would be like in check. And this kept the entire focus on the wii controller and games.
I guarantee that the Wii U controller will only be 20 percent of the discussion at E3...the other 30 percent of discussion will be the Wii U games...and the other 50 percent of E3 discussion will be on tech/specs.

I think he's talking about Thraktor's avatar.
