I still don't understand how will digital distribution work on 3DS and U? Will every game be available both digitally and physically or just select titles? I want to phase all these junk in form of the boxes, cards, discs, manuals and the likes.

Sounds like all games.

All Nintendo games in the future will be available in retail and digitally on day 1. It is up to 3rd parties to decide what they want to do.

Next thing you know they'll be writing articles asking "Will strong third party and first party be enough?"

"Will {insert anything} be enough?"

I don't know why people still give IGN hits. After Matt Casablanca and Bozon left there was no real point in going to IGN for Nintendo news.
Yup. Starve the beast, folks.

There are good news aggregation sites that'll disseminate anything of value to us, so there's absolutely no need for people to go there. (edit: same for the other majors, honestly)

I'm still trying to figure-out a decent site to go to for the live stream of Nintendo's Conference. Someplace that won't make me vomit when I click on their link. I know it's quite early, but.. any clues?

Nintendo hosts their conference on here

Fantastic quality and no lag from my past experiences.

I hope this means midnight releases for first party Nintendo games. You'd think EB Games would throw an event once and a while... but no.

:O, I haven't actually thought about that!

Hahaha! Screw you, bus at 9 in the morning to go get a game! Screw you, Gamestop!

At this point, even he pokes fun at how wrong he is. I think it's fun hearing his thoughts, especially on Nintendo.

Just try not to take what he says to heart :lol
Same here. For some reason i've always enjoyed hearing what his opinions are even if i dont agree with all of it.

If they let you use external hard drives for games. PS3 doesn't for some reason.

But unlike PSTriple the Wii U doesn't have an internal (unless they changed some stuff on the E3 one), so it's likely they set the thing up so that the external is the primary.

And lol at IGN. "No, my external 500 GB and 1 TB hard drives are junk, better have a 120 GB proprietary one like MS does to be sure!" Get outta here with that. It would be nice if it included a SKU that has an external in the package for people that would bitch about that sort of thing.

Quite amazing. One would think that they'd be happy with more options, more flexibility, but it's the same ol', same ol', "Why can't you be more like __________?"

I swear, to me it's almost as though they're on the dole. Little things like this over time..

Does anyone know how long it took to develop the Zelda Wii U demo? I could've sworn Iwata mentioned it in an interview once, but I've never been able to find it since.

IIRC, all he said was it was done, "quickly" He never specified the amount of time.

Just another way Nintendo is killing gaming, along with motion controls.

Am I doing it right?

It's like you're one of them! You've been taking notes, haven't you?

Nintendo: they're the one gaming-centric console-maker out there - and they're killing gaming. :)

kinda similar to my plan

-tuesday and wednesday off from work
-get in line and play unreleased games
-i don't own a cell phone
Lucky sonova..

AND no cell phone? I bow before the master. If it weren't for the hospital and my paranoid mother, I wouldn't have this Jitterbug-wannabe flip phone electronic leash. Ugh.

Buying dolls for video game content is dumb, but as long as Nintendo doesn't do it, it's easy for me to ignore. I just won't buy the third-party game.

One of the great things about Nintendo being ass-backwards with the internet was that they still sold their games in one piece. Unfortunately, they decided to try milking Fire Emblem, and it ended up being the best-selling one in Japan in a long time.

I'm not optimistic about Nintendo's strategies for these things in the Wii U gen.

Doesn't that site have like an hour lag? I seem to remember Nintendo not putting up video until the conference is over, and not allowing other people to live-stream videos, just live-blog.

I could be wrong, though.

Same here. There are multiple reasons that I loved them dragging their feet on these online/digital features.

I love the big N, but I'm not a sheep to the point where I'd trust them with the temptations that this technology brings.

Yeah, you're completely wrong dude. :P

It's been live both on Nintendo's site as well as other sites for as long as I can remember.

I want to believe Iwata's words:

As you know, all of my remarks and explanations on our digital business are kept and made available for public viewing on our IR site inside Nintendo’s official website. Unfortunately, as some people seem to have a misunderstanding, I would like to once again sum up my comments here. First, we clearly distinguish digital distribution of packaged software from add-on content and, when it comes to making packaged software digitally available, we do not intend to offer any products that the consumers deem incomplete. Second, we sell add-on content so that the consumers can play a software title for even longer and on a deeper level and, when we sell this add-on content, we are making a proposal to consumers to pay for the content our developers have additionally created. In other words, as we have repeatedly confirmed, Nintendo has never conducted and will never conduct what is now widely known (in Japan) as a “gacha-type charging business” (capsule toy vending machine business), which asks consumers to pay money without knowing what kind of item shall emerge as a result of their payment, even if such a business model might temporarily yield high profitability. Nintendo does not believe such a business model can establish long-lasting relationships with our consumers. We hope that everyone understands our policy, and we will continue to make efforts to avoid such misunderstandings as, “the next ‘Animal Crossing’ might be a game which relies upon add-on content sales.”

But I know it's just PR.

How do you guys think Nintendo would handle DLC/NFC with mainstream Pokemon games? I feel like "NFC exclusive" Pokemon would go against their word... but how else will they get kids to buy those toys? The incentive has to be there.

I'm not sure if NFC will apply to mainline Pokemon games, considering mainline Pokemon games don't exist on consoles. But I could see a spinoff series, perhaps the Mystery Dungeon series, in which you unlock more Pokemon to play as through NFC.

Yeah it won't doom the system (just me and explodinghead at least :P), but I think costs would keep them from have two different USB controllers. I used to think that could happen as well till that clicked in my head. You'd think though they'd just go with USB 3.0 for all four posts due to 2.0 BC.

You know Nintendo. "We have to 20 cents yen more for something not 100% necessary!?! NO SALE!"

I'm sure that they'll follow that philosophy for a while.

*looks at Fire Emblem*

Nevermind.

They're following Crapcpom's example.

It's the only stream that airs the conference live and then goes straight into the after-show stuff aka Iwata Asks, trailers, etc.

My only real issue with figurines, if you can call it an issue, is that I don't want to have a lot of potentially cool content locked out for me simply because I don't own a few figures. Especially if this gets to be a big seller in Wii U games. I don't mind everyone else enjoying it, but I'd like to have access to certain content too if that's not my cup of tea.

And as a personal problem, my house is so damned cluttered already between me, the fiance (my bachelor's party is tonight!) and my roommate I really don't have any room for a bunch of figurines...literally. I'm gonna be barely making room to accommodate the Wii U and accessories.

You're under the sadly delusional impression that Nintendo would dare to make a Pokemon game for a console worth playing in the first pace.

I don't really think offering extra Pokemon through DLC/NFC goes against what he said about making incomplete games. In fact, they have been doing those "special event" pokemon and shit for years, which is basically the same thing.

I'm sure that they'll follow that philosophy for a while.

What's wrong with Fire Emblem DLC other than being pricey?

Since they focus more on 3DS/WiiU connectivity, I can see them releasing some nice titles which work together with the mainline games on the handheld.

But yeah, we won't see a mainline game on Wii U - which is a reasonable decision.

Day 1 DLC, followed by week 3 DLC, and 250-400 yen just for one character.

Day 1 DLC (Marth) was free, and the game was roughly 300 yen cheaper than other high-end 3DS games. And of course since the DLC was just mainly characters from other Fire Emblem games, it's not like they are integral to the experience. Just fun extras for people who wanted to buy them.

They are also giving the DLC away for free to those who buy it early. It's a fair DLC plan for the game & the consumer to get characters & a mission.

Only the first one is free.

The new characters come with a new map no? Also the first one was free.

I guess that a new map and mission makes it a bit better, but it's still day 1/week 3. This DLC was probably ready before release, so it should have been part of the original game. It's barely different from on-disc DLC.

They should have been unlockables if they came so soon.

They sold the game for 5800 yen, when other games of that level cost 6100 yen, and then charged the difference for optional content that cost them money to make. So what's your problem? Seems weird to me that you want to wait months for more content, rather than having it available early on; the original Mass Effect DLC sucked because of that, by the time it went on sale I had already beaten the game, but the DLC takes place during the game.

Hard to say, considering the DLC character art is/was done by guest artists. Contracting that out would have taken time and money. Depends how long ago the game was done before release, and when they finalized these DLC plans.

Personally I'm ok with this kind of DLC being released at the 3rd week. Day 1 is kind of suspect, but they are offering for free so w.e. The game being sold at a slightly lower price also mitigates the issue I think.

So wait, wii u still uses wii remotes? This is so confusing... >:(

It can use them yes, along with Classic Controllers. The Balance Board is also compatible.

Wii remotes work and like 200 million families already have some, so it was natural for the device to still use them, similar to how the Wii had GameCube controller ports at launch and many games supported them.

So its supported, but not the main controller right? I'm assuming those big controllers are gonna be the "main" Wii U controllers?

I haven't been keeping up with Nintendo news since I last played my Wii :S

Local multiplayer, at this point, will be done through Wiimotes so they are pretty important.

Didn't see this posted.

2012/

Nintendo wont reveal price at e3.

Not anything new... but disappointing to say the least.

Nintendo has never revealed the price of a handheld or console at e3.
The only time that happened was Sony's 599 USD if I recall correctly.

Tbh, Nintendo's E3 network was awful for me last year, terrible lag, at least for me. I remember watching the Nintendo conference and one other one on IGN and it worked perfectly, but the rest of the presentations didn't work on IGN, also due to lag. I missed most of the Zelda orchestra last year because of the Nintendo Network, actually.

My point is just that in terms of streams, sites can be a bit unpredictable and inconsistent.

You missed the part where I said "not anything new," as in they've always done that... though I'll reword it for clarification.

I think Sony did it for PS2, as well. And Sega did it a couple times, most notably when they stealth launched the Saturn immediately following the expo.
