* Digital download of every major title from launch
Everyone? I knew they would have digital downloads, but didn't expect it for every "major" title.

They have to have some sort of HDD scu, bundle, or accessory. I know the Wii U will have SD and USB support and some fairly high memory capacity, but if I buy all the major releases as digital downloads that should fill up fast. (I guess other USB HDD will work, but won't Nintendo want to cash in on there own option?)

Man, one of the most obvious things why the WiiU will be successful just came to my mind.

Its a home console version of the DS... The best selling handheld console ever. Games on DS can get an WiiU sequel. Maybe we see some kind of DS VC once they kill the system off. Or DS remakes for WiiU...

They should call it Wii DS ;)

It would be freaking boring to be honest
I like the threads how they are

Me too

We just need an algorithm to search easily news/a standardized & very flashy method to present them for us to spot them in a glimpse while browsing the pages/a way to tag posts as "NEWS".

Well, with the digital launch of NSMB2 in digital at the same time as the retail launch, it was clear that Nintendo was going to do this. and with the inclusion of retail codes, the barrier that ware the brick-and-mortar retailers is not there anymore.

Offtopic: BY2K, thanks for the tip on userscripts for NeoGAF, I'm liking re:GAF a lot!

Regardless of what Nintendo decides to do when it comes to sharing the technical specifications of Wii U, it will be interesting to know how they will answer question regarding the machines portability in connection to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 (and also Xbox Durango and Orbis). And also if it is indeed more powerful than these systems. They have said they don't focus on specs but just saying that a few hundreds times to journalists and analysts from varying companies ought to become rather tedious.

While I definitely can see myself doing some reverse engineering on Wii U to find out its true capabilities, it would be nice to have a spec sheet so I at least could choose between knowing perhaps not all details but a good share of them and opening up a box for a hefty sum of money to know everything.

"We are working hard with our third party partners to ensure that development for their games goes smoothly, in order to provide our fans with the best line up that is possible."

Sorry if dumb question but does Nintendo reveal what's going to be in the box at E3 or any conference at all?
like.. "controller, wires, adapter, console, this, those and that too"

No.
They won't focus on the retail scene at E3.
It'll be about the games and the experience.
We'll learn about the rest in the fall.

Once you remove the heat spreaders and the thermal compound, the WiiU will reveal its secrets to you:
  • An IC bearing the IBM logo and a part number no google-indexed IC database will give you a meaningful info about, and..
  • An IC carrying the AMD logo with a part number surprisingly similar in information value to the one above.

You will be able to lookup the sdam part numbers, though ..perhaps ; )

Avatars are disabled during e3
Hmmm... guess there is no point in going back to my Iwata edit then.

I'm pretty sure details about packaging usually come in the form of press releases. Don't remember them ever focusing on that aspect during a stage showing.

"Wii DS" has so much potential for confusion.. but for some strange reason, I really like it, haha..

Didn´t Nintendo mention that the name could change?

I though they could change the name too, but it seems that they will keep the Wii U name.

I don't think Nintendo themselves ever mentioned it.
Just a lot of talk around it from journalists.
Wii U is likely the final name.

As a consumer I really do hope they ditch the Wii name. From a business standpoint, I see why they wouldn't, but Wii U isn't doing anything for me at all.

* Nintendo will not disclose when the console will launch and how much it will cost at E3, but will launch b4 xmas.
* Specs and games will be disclosed at E3...

I'll eat 10 hats and put it on YouTube if specs are revealed. The rest we know already because Iwata said those would happen.

I'm still partial to Nintendo HDS, or at the very least, Wii HDS. I can even picture a logo animation where HD and DS merge.

It's gotta be an IR camera. The Wii U controller needs to know which direction the TV is, and that's the only real way to do it - unless they expect us to orient the controller manually every time we switch it on. The PixArt IR sensor has a tiny little lens on it, about 1mm across, so the size of that black window is more than adequate to house it.
What about a one-time magnetometer calibration? Wii U asks you to raise the controller up in front of the TV and hold it for a few seconds, then it saves the magnetometer measurement. You can redo the calibration from the Wii U Settings if you move your TV or hook up to a different one.

he explains why Wii U was chosen, but Wii 2 is simply a better name business/marketing wise imo. No confusion whatsoever, retains branding, cna also be cutesy with the 2 screens because we know nintendo loves cutesy bullshit (hence the U).
I understad. I think that Nintendo decided to keep the Wii name due to the brand recognition. Although, personally i dont think that the name matters that much to be honest, as long as they get the idea of the console across to the consumers.

I read the article now, and the "specs" that were mentioned earlier is referring to the final design of the Wii. It is more about the final looks and functionality of the WiiU rather than hardware specs.

This is kind of weird, but I really dislike saying Wii U, but I actually like how it looks on paper/typed out. I am a weirdo.

blahblahblah you know what I mean

Sure, but IR is significantly more reliable than motion (and gyroscopic pointing a-la WM+/Move) and vastly more accurate than dual-analog.

They'll never release a spec sheet, and as blu's mentioned - removing heatspreaders is going to give you bupkis in regards to information. The only way you'll ever get specs is if someone leaks them again.

As much as I hate the name, I think they're sticking with it.

Yup. Wishful thinking on Patrick's part.

If GameplayWhore keeps going what he's doing it's not so bad. Like he should post one on every page or something. Otherwise, this thread is basically a community thread with the occasional sprinkling of information from folks such as yourself/lherre/wsippel/bg etc. lol

This sounds fun.

The Nintendo Lavitra.

How about the "Nintendo Latrine?"
Latrine.jpg

(it's better than "Shithouse!")

Nintendo Wii Wii

Instead of Wii 2, they could just type Wii two times signifying more multiples, and also it would be a first in the industry.

They could call it also Nintendo Odnetnin (pretty cool name)
