Wii U Speculation Thread The Third: Casting Dreams in The Castle of Miyamoto

Fixed that for you. And yes, it would be awesome.

As much as Elite beat agents is one of my favourite games and I'm looking forward to it making a spectacular comeback ASAP, Rhythm heaven is very good as well and has possibly a much bigger commercial appeal(whereas EBA is quite niche in comparison).

I am beginning to hope we get no leaks at all

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-03-12-epic-vp-id-be-shocked-if-wii-u-doesnt-do-well?

Epic VP Mark Rein will be shocked if the Wii U isn't a hit for Nintendo when it launches later this year.

Sepaking to Eurogamer at GDC in San Francisco last week, Rein argued that parents are ready to upgrade their kid's Wii to Nintendo's new system.

"I like the Wii U. I think E3 will be a big eye-opener for people," he predicted.

"I played Batman: Arkham City on the Wii U and they are doing some really cool stuff with the controller.

"Do you remember the Zelda demo they had on it? Would you not buy a Wii U just to play that? Of course you would. That's what Nintendo is all about. Their hardware is the software delivery service for their great content. That Zelda demo was gorgeous and we can do even more than that with Unreal Engine 3. I think it will do great."

Rein added that Nintendo's brand recognition and beloved IP should see it fly off shelves, though he suggested that it might have been quicker off the mark with getting the machine to stores.

"It's a great brand that a lot of parents really trust and they're probably ready to buy their kids an HD Wii that does that much more than just being an HD Wii.

"I'd love it if they'd done it last year, but I'm excited for them to do it this year. I'd be shocked if it doesn't do well.

"Did you play that Battle Mii game? Two players would play with a Wii Remote and Nunchuk and one would play with the Wii U controller?

"I would buy a Wii U to play that game in a heartbeat. And I hope people make those kind of games with our technology. I think we've yet to really see what the Wii U can do and I think at E3 this year they're going to shock us."

Earlier this year Nintendo president Satoru Iwata suggested that, more than ever, the company will be looking to partner with third parties when developing high-spec core games that fall outside of its traditional comfort zone.

Might Epic step up to the plate with a new IP for the system, a la Gears of War on the Xbox 360?

"If I had 10 development teams I'd make a game for every single platform and make that the special game for that platform," replied Rein.

"If you're the special game on that platform you do really, really well. Gears was one of the special ones on Xbox 360. Infinity Blade is a special game on the iPhone and iPad. Shadow Complex was a special game on Xbox Live Arcade.

"But we don't have 10 development teams so it's just a matter of picking and choosing what we do and doing the best thing we can for the idea that we have."

Lalalalala, I can't hear you. EBA is awesome, we'll get another one someday. Lalalalala.

I'm not saying otherwise.

Recently I got to play EBA after a long time trying and beating some records, and it is really an addicting game!
I just couldn't stop playing!

That said, also Rhythm heaven on DS is very good!

seriously how can Rein say that a crossplatform engine can outperform nintendo own in house engine builded specifically for their own platform?

I want a F-Zero ><

A blend of F-Zero GX + F-Zero DD64 track editor, all in a futuristic GTA-like overworld of descent size stuffed with funny superhero/villains quests to rest yourself after very challenging races and missions, streets full of Captain Falcon wanabee & Samurai Goroh fighting each other, with an arcade building à la Shenmue where you can play all the previous titles including the handled ones + hard rock & techno OST + rocking online mode, where people can chat & have fun before the races in this overworld, like an advanced PSO hub or a "City of" light-mmo + completionist features thanks to NFC / NiN achievement system to customize like never before your own personal car/character/house (that other players can visit).

Who should work on this? EA, SEGA, Atari?

Btw, could that article I just posted warrant a new thread?

imho it does... the real question is do we really want a bunch of people pointing at the fact that he's talking about UE3 and not 4?

sure UE4 is not confirmed for any platform, but i don't think many people would understand that and would just be saying "wii u = 360 confirmed"

The most substantial thing about the interview is that he thinks E3 is going to be an eye-opener for people. Else than that it's more or less shallow talk. Though it's lengthy, and if you can get some good personal reflections in there it could warrant a thread.

I just want Pikmin 3, at launch, and I want it to be of epic scale. I want to zoom waaay out, and I want 1,000 Pikmin. I want a beautiful balance between huge wars and epic orchestration mixed with tranquil calm days of repopulating, perhaps building some sort of fortress, and enjoying the species.

Pikmin 3 and some multiplayer wii sports crap is all I need. If the system launches in November, and has a good Ubi Soft exclusive and maybe RE:6.....that's all I need.

Yeah this will never happen. Ever.

The budget is not worth the risk.

They can seriously start with F-Zero GX as a base. Bump up the graphics, add online, double the levels, a course editor, I'm happy.

I don't need some genre refining jump. F-Zero GX did it good. I think 30 player online will be a big enough draw.

don't you work for them? of course you'll say that :P

but what ideaman posted is not Nintendo's style they would need help building a GTA open world around it... maybe THQ's Saints Row the third engine would work best >_<

His idea was insane. We can just stop at the F-Zero GX + F-Zero DD. That would be perfection. Oh plus online play.

Didn't get a reply the last time I asked - but has ideaman been mod-verified as legitimate?

And what did he say about UE4.

Because Rein's quote really seems to imply that the aim is have UE3 as their go-to Wii-U engine.

ideaman is pretty legit as far as most here are concerned not mod verified

Ideaman has not said anything about UE4

Mark Rein cannot talk about UE4 there are rumours that WiiU has been tweaked to run it

ideaman knows the wii u hardware but to know if UE4 runs on it shouldn't you know what are UE4 specs?

for what i understood Epic didn't have any talk with any dev, just with Nintendo / Sony / Microsoft, so how could ideaman say anything about it?

Like a known philosopher named Bieber said one day: never say never. And with a reasonable overworld (not GTA-sized of course), the budget and development time will be controlled. The fictional universe of this franchise ooze of craziness and ASK to spread elsewhere than only races, with the Ashi anime, story modes & other medias.

But yeah, in the worst case, a classic F-Zero with solid online mode + track editor. It's better than nothing, but it will be too conservative in my opinion :p

we already raped it in this thread a couple pages ago but let the weaklings not here see it for some reason even though the article sucks

I wouldnt say rape maybe fondled it a little

he seems to want to keep his UE3 alive while saying UE4 is going to make UE3 look like crap so who knows he might be trolling WiiU in the worst way here when he starts talking UE4

not expecting him to say anything about it just replying to the question asked

Hmm, well I'll take it with a grain of salt for now. E3 this year will definitely be interesting.

As for UE4, however, Epic has been talking about it. No specifics in terms of specs or systems; but they've been talking it up as making Samaritan look "feeble." That consoles need to be bleeding edge.

And it's supposed to be unveiled with new hardware. Etc.

I don't know whether what's been floated in this string of threads would make Samaritan look "feeble." Although maybe Nintendo will surprise.

I finally stopped putting it off and made a gif for the bird demo since we used to see the Link gif posted a lot. This was my favorite part of the demo. It was tough finding a good video to work with.

honestly if games look like the bird demo, even a little better, I'll be more than pleased. Still foaming at imagining how zelda is gonna look. To think we were all drooling at some in-door setting and some lighting. IMAGINE HOW THE OUTDOORS LOOKSSS. Riding a horse in a field when it's raining and the sun is about to set with all that magical lighting and anal sex. SO GOOD.

I wouldn't go as far as to say I'm expecting it, but I'd really like to see a new F-Zero announced for Wii U. Preferably during launch window. Get Sega to do it again, they hit it out of the part with GX. Get Ryo Horikawa in the booth and record a shit ton of Captain Falcon lines.

But most importantly...

1080p
60fps
30 player online

This game can be used to blow all the doubters away, like the original F Zero did on SNES with mode 7 scaling. Cutting edge graphics and performance? Check. New and improved online infrastructure? Check.

Check those boxes.
