Wii U Speculation Thread The Third: Casting Dreams in The Castle of Miyamoto

That'll keep us going for another 50 or so pages.

Pssht..no problem, with or without Rein.

I am naturally hesitant to read too much into flattering comments from outside parties at this point; the Wii saw lots of flattering bullshit during this phase of its life, too.

I'll believe when I see concrete results.

I don't think Pachter is ever told anything, he should at least read NeoGAF threads to support his predictions

But it's.. Epic Games. They are the good ones.. Right?

The flirtation between Nintendo and Epic is becoming more passionate ...
Epic VP: "I'd be shocked if Wii U doesn't do well"

..."Unreal Engine 4? I believe" :D

"Do you remember the Zelda demo they had on it? Would you not buy a Wii U just to play that? Of course you would. That's what Nintendo is all about. Their hardware is the software delivery service for their great content. That Zelda demo was gorgeous and we can do even more than that with Unreal Engine 3. I think it will do great."

Boo...

Might Epic step up to the plate with a new IP for the system, a la Gears of War on the Xbox 360?

"If I had 10 development teams I'd make a game for every single platform and make that the special game for that platform," replied Rein.

"If you're the special game on that platform you do really, really well. Gears was one of the special ones on Xbox 360. Infinity Blade is a special game on the iPhone and iPad. Shadow Complex was a special game on Xbox Live Arcade.

"But we don't have 10 development teams so it's just a matter of picking and choosing what we do and doing the best thing we can for the idea that we have."

Boo-er...

Rein must have met with Nintendo Ninjas, and they have """"convinced"""" him of the goodness of the platform. What the hell.

A part of Mario 3D Land's director Hayashida interview from GR hasn't been posted here, it's interesting because it's basically a confirmation (but a lot of us have expected that, just by looking back the history of Mario's iterations through change of platforms) that the next major mario on Wii U will not be Galaxy 3, they treated the subject to its maximum.

GR: Galaxy 2 began development with ideas that couldn’t fit in Galaxy 1. After finishing the second game, were you left with any ideas that could appear in a possible third game?

KH: When we worked on Galaxy 1 we came up with a mountain of ideas. Of course, the ideas that made it in to the final product were the ones at the very top. Those ideas that were most compelling or could be implemented most easily and effectively. The other ideas were a little bit rougher. Ideas we weren’t positive that’d be as effective, or might have been much more difficult to include.

When you think about trying to make a game like Galaxy 2 from that large group of ideas that we had already decided were on the rough side, that becomes a very difficult project. The only way that we got through the development of Mario Galaxy 2 was by coming up with entirely new ideas. I think of that as a very challenging project when I look back on it.

From that perspective, to say we’d make another game using the ideas left over from Galaxy 2, it’s very difficult for me to imagine. I feel like we really did research the field very well for possible ideas and we used everything that was reasonably easy to implement.

I'm really curious about the next Mario on Wii U. They were nearly always showcases for their adoption's system, the "incarnation through a game" of Big N new platforms. The gamedesign & even the aesthetics bend before the hardware specifications and new control schemes. What kind of world and gameplay will bow the most to the Wii U setup. Man, i imagine all the theorycrafting, the 1500 ideas burgeoning in Nintendo GD & LD heads, all the iteration process, prototypes through paper sketches, boards, simplified programs, etc. These initial stages of development must be a total thrill for creativity, for the imagination, i bet they have dreams or nightmares about that.

Nintendo scares a lot of 3rd Parties. Why ? Because Nintendo is one of the biggest (if the biggest) publisher in the industry. They're doing insane sales with their games. Mario Kart Wii has sold more thant 25 millions copies... and it released on 1 system only ! Call of Duty make those sales with more than 5 plateforms ! So, some 3rd parties think that if they go to develop on Nintendo's consoles, they couldn't compete, and Nintendo will eat them.

Tiny blurb I haven't seen posted before, from Shacknews, about Batman: Arkham City for Wii U:

Awesome. Out of all the upcoming games for the system, that was the one I was most sure would get the chop, what with being a year late port and all. Glad to hear its still actually in development.

Damn straight. Good to hear such enthusiasm. Honestly, Epic has been really gung ho about Wii U all around. Mike Capps has nothing but positive things to say. Mark Rein seems to be on board. The day Wii U was revealed, CliffyB said something along the lines of "people will talk shit but still end up buying it." Good to know...

i love the family guy reference!

Hah, I was wondering if anyone would connect those dots

Minus a couple of exceptions, anything Nintendo puts out prints money.

He won't talk about UE4 details yet and he actually dodged the question about game support completely.

megaton betrayalton incoming :3

cool stuff all around

why would he even talk WiiU play Batman an year old port meh dude is setting his company up for a good boost on the Hype train

I just like how sure he is that nintendo is going to blow people away at E3. Gives me hope. Must hold out...just...a little...longer...

Somewhere around 35 million, actually. And it's sold better than any CoD game.

secret: Find a way to have Nintendo publish your game and market your game :3

seriously this is a non-issue recently Nintendo has been doing tons to support 3rd party games

even Club Nintendo gives coins for 3rd Party software now which I find strange

I'm positive about the sales of the first Wii U launch games..
If they add new content, all the previously released DLC and a good execution of the controller, I can see Batman Arkham City selling over 1.5 million :D

31.6 million so far

the end of next year :P

edit: yay! new page... lol

I forgot to answer wsippel about this

in the last thread.

DK-DEV is the controller itself. Only the controller.

Hey lherre. I wont bog you down about wii u specifics. But as someone who has access to the Wii U devkit and seemingly a good grasp on what nintendo has planned, would you say your estimation of the Wii U as a platform has increased over time, decreased, or stayed the same? I'm just trying to gauge what the developer mentality might be at the moment regarding the system.

Over 1.5 million? On Wii U alone in the first year? Dude, I think they'll be ecstatic if they crack 1mil.
