Wii U Speculation Thread The Third: Casting Dreams in The Castle of Miyamoto

No, re-read what was written, they asked Sakamoto for reactions on a SITUATIONAL basis. There was no discussion of how she interacts socially, or how she would confront her arch nemesis who traumatized her as a child, they asked how she would react, in battle, to a hostage situation, as one specific example.

Your excuses for Sakamoto's conversation with Tanabe are like saying: "Although Sergio Leone portrayed Clint Eastwood's Man With No Name character as being a remorseless, ruthless gunslinger whenever the need arised, that's just for those situations. But if there was another scenario where he was hired to kill another gunslinger who also happened to kill his parents, it'd be natural for the audience to expect Leone to have him to completely break down mentally at that point even though he'd encountered this character several times before."

To say Sakamoto somehow changed his mind after the Prime series makes him sound like a wishy-washy designer, when nothing presented in ANYTHING Sakamoto has been involved with suggests that, AT ALL. In fact, when you go and look at the manga he directly supervised to be released in 2002, you can see that, at least in Japan, anyways, he was making clear parallels to what he presented in Other M, including her PTSD over Ridley. (edit: thought it was earlier than that, corrected, but the comic in Nintendo Power makes brief suggestions to this, as well)

So yeah, I'll stick by what I said, as the evidence wins out.

Nope, sorry. The silly PTSD excuse doesn't work because even if we pretend the Prime games don't exist, she's already killed him TWICE and per the officially sanctioned manga's story, she overcame her trauma the first time she defeated him:

[Another difficulty with the scene is that, even if we go into it knowing that Samus is supposed to have been emotionally scarred by Ridley as a child, by this point in her life she’s already killed the beast several times (at least twice, in the original Metroid and in Super Metroid; twice more if you include the ambiguously-canonical Metroid Prime trilogy). Even the manga has her overcoming her childhood trauma by this point in her life.

(Samus belting out a primal scream over Ridley’s smoking ashes after she missiles him to death.

Again, this is like defending Lucas for making Han be nicer and have Greedo shoot first in the ANH special edition like the director wanted it this way all along. Tanabe's conversation with Sakamoto speaks for itself. Anyways, I'm done and am going back to Wii U discussion.

Another important thing said was:

That actually sounds like a moderately big deal. What kind of things would an ARM part find use for in a next gen system? BC? Some nuanced Hollywood/Broadway aspect that needs re-emulation via a similar chip? I/O controllers for the controller?

Will 3D games (with glasses) be possible / likely on Wii U? I mean the PS3, and to a lesser extent 360, both have these. I'd like to see what the extra performance of Wii U could mean to 3D gaming with glasses.
(I don't mind wearing them, haven't minded since the SMS).

Unless one of the Wii U's secret features is a 3D on the subscreen

3D glasses would interfere with the LCD touchscreen, since they operate on the same principal of polarized light. Depending on the type of glasses used, the screen would either appear discolored or black for at least one eye.

2, eh?

Hmm.

I'll have to think about it. Maybe I can clear my mind by watching a movie.

Oh, look - Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers is on. I've never seen the first one, but that might help me clear my mind a bit..

Didn't a lot of people play Dark souls without playing demon souls? I don't see how this is any different.

Then devs could just make 3D games using the traditional Wii Remote (w/M+).

I wouldn't mind a 3D port of Sega's House Of The Dead 4 (coming to PSN w/o 3D this April) with traditional Wii controls.

Am I getting crazy, or the number of rumors and confirmations are increasing?

Only going to get worse, especially as we get closer. I can't think of an E3 year where there weren't at least a few leaks before the main event got rolling.

And if Nintendo's conspiracy of silence is as wide as we think it is, it isn't gonna hold forever. Usually the leaks and credible rumors tended to begin in April of years past, but since E3 is now in June, I suspect they'll begin a bit later.

Yup, the curtain lifts itself a little more!

When E3 is around the next corner, we will get some really heavy hitting crazy rumors which most turn out to be rumors. It's gonna be incredible

I'm waiting for the inevitable 4chan rumor that gets people overhyped.

"I werk at a plase dit miks intendo boxxes. I cin cinfirm retro zulda, mjario gta-styl opin werld, pokimon mmo, an mor!"

True enough. I'm just being OCD. Might have to grab the PC version and add it to the long list of games I'm aiming to play before this generation comes to a close.

Nikkei has said so much bullshit about Nintendo in the past months, I wouldn't be scared of them spoiling stuff.

Besides, they never did that at E3, did they?

I feel like the ones who spilled the beans on Wii Motion Plus and new Super Mario Bros Wii

Being shocked still makes perfect sense. She blew him up, he got fixed and came back as a cyborg. That's unexpected, but kinda reasonable. Then, he goes down again, and he really shouldn't come back this time considering the whole planet blew up - but there he is. And not just that, he looks like new, as if nothing ever happened. At this point, one has to wonder if he might actually be immortal (and well... he is). And that's something not even a hard boiled mercenary would simply shrug off.

The 3DS touch screen looks fine through passive 3D glasses...so I don't see why the Wii U screen would be any different.

Nintendo has been too tight lipped... someone is going to ruin it trust me it cannot stay this quiet for much longer... April and May are going to be very fun

Shocked yes. Complete mental breakdown when she's defeated him twice and he's been cloned back to life? No. I'd expect shock mixed with anger at the scientists moreso.

Remember the rumor about some NDAs ending next week. While that might be bullshit, Nicalis has hinted at embargoes being lifted before E3 as well.

No point arguing either way, as neither one of us ever had his hometown burned down by an ancient space dragon who simply refuses to stay dead. I think a breakdown is perfectly reasonable in context, Samus isn't some emotionless robot after all - you're free to disagree.

Part of the reason I love Echoes so much is that none of that 'recycled' entourage exists there. Nada, niente, zilch.

May is gonna be a long month.

But at least I'll be able to start working on my Darksiders II and Nintendo Conference OTs.

Thinking back to Wii's Starlet and the patent, some of it's roles would include security, allowing the console to "always be on", and assisting with the controller.

He says 2.

He is not allowed to give any details about this version, but he is pretty sure that this will be done when the Wii U launches.
Sorry to correct you, he is not only pretty sure.
The correct translation would mean: He said the game will definitely be there if the WiiU releases!

If NDAs run out soon, and we get a fair amount of info pre-E3, that would seem to me to indicate a summer launch?

We'd need to get full details on the launch-window software lineup, including first-party titles, as I'd say a three-month gap between reveal and launch is the bare minimum. So not likely.

...thought you wanted to watch LOTR...
or have you cleared your mind in another way???

B3D dude supposedly in the know has this to say about Retro :

" Btw bgassasin, tell those maniacs in the in Gaf thread that Retro is definitely not working a next-gen DK. They are aggressively targeting the XBOX/PS3 demographic."

"I referenced Retro, bgassassin, because their project is for the "broader" demographic. It is not DK, LOZ, nor MP. It is extremely visually impressive, or so I am told. "

This is good news. This is good news.

RETRO new IP or new METROID. Nothing else makes sense. It's going to be a FPS, anyway.
