Sorry if already posted, but to clear the whole Vigil power speculation thing:

Wii U launch title Darksiders II will probably look exactly like the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions irrespective of the Nintendo console's horsepower, developer Vigil has said.
Based on what Vigil, which spent five weeks in the run up to E3 creating a working version of the action adventure game on Wii U, knows about Nintendo's next home console, Darksiders II will be a direct port.
"There's plenty of horsepower there, so we're not going to have to make any visual concessions at all for Darksiders 2," game director Marvin Donald told Eurogamer.
The power behind the Wii U is shrouded in mystery - and in a state of flux - although Eurogamer can reveal that second generation developer kits are now with development studios.
"At a minimum on par, for sure," Donald said of Darksiders 2's visuals on Wii U versus Darksiders 2's visuals on PS3 and Xbox 360.
"Whether or not we can go one step further, that might be driven by what's available on the PC and whether or not that is easy to translate to the Wii U hardware, because there are most likely going to be resolution choices for the PC version of the game. We know some gamers are just going to have more horsepower at their disposal.
"It's probably going to be the same graphically, regardless of any minor or major horsepower improvements on the Wii U.
"But, in all honesty, if the Wii U turns out to be this ridiculously powerful machine, we will probably make changes to our budget and scope to take advantage of that. But that's currently not the plan. It's going to be a direct port. That's what we're planning on. But that's based off of what we believe the hardware's going to be like."

  • V2 dev kits, before the 'power boost', straight after E3.
  • Acknowledges Wii U is more powerful than current generation, but that they won't make nay changes to the game anyway.
  • Insinuates an uncertainty in eventual power of the system, predicts to be more powerful, naturally.

Someone post this info to the "LOL! Wii U is on Par with 360" thread.

I just realize that probably I won't be able to sleep the night prior and after Nintendo's conference. There will be just too much info and excitment to process. Like a kid waiting to open all the christmas presents. :P

E3 can't come soon enough :(

My birthday is June 4th, the conference is probably June 5th. GF is planning a little vacation over that weekend, but I've taken the 5th off as well.......and I'm not entirely sure how I'm going to have that conversation with her. Maybe I'll tell her it's some sort of nerd football equivalent.

GAF/E3 or Grandma???.... Hardest choice :P
we already know the answer so just tell her you're sorry :D

While I can sleep, but on the day of the conference my mind is set on 18:00... I love the crazy stuff that will happen on the internet :)

This. I'll probably have a hibernation day a few days before the conference where I'm in bed watching TV and sleeping/podcasting. Meanwhile, my case of Bawls should show-up in the mail, and I'll be making a special grocery shopping trip for all of my favorite junk foods.

E3s during Nintendo launch years, like Launch Week itself, is treated like a holiday here. So looking forward to this.

So basically, they've been planning on it being a completely lazy (graphically) port for over a year now, even though they admit that there's probably room for improvement. Sweet.

Well, I literally missed the WiiPS360 reveal/launch so this is officially my first "welcome to next gen" E3.
Last year's was crazy so I'm really excited to see what happens this year :P

THQ is essentially on its deathbed, cut those guys some slack.

Well, I don't know anything about their financial situation--that's a shame if true--but how many lines of code/hours of work would it take to bump up the res or add AA? I can't imagine they couldn't afford that given the scope of development of the game.

Res would be easy, AA would be a bit more difficult.
Even the PC release of the original didn't have AA, though.

That picture is reeeeally hard on my page load, Rosti.

That Rare AFD is just awful. The point is to make a clever joke, not just make up some totally believable information.
Yes, I reasoned this with the help of Cracked

Hell, E3 is the best holiday after Christmas :)

In that case, you're in for a real treat. This is the gamers' equivalent of Christmas/Valentine's Day/Mardi Gras/Steak-&-BJ-Day combined.

Take it from a man who has been married 19 years - focus on your holiday :)

Do we know when Nintendo's conference (day and time) is on?

I've been with my other half for 16 years.. and I have to agree. Take those times when you have the chance. They're precious.

And for the day: my best guess is on that Tuesday, June 5th.
(I hope it's even longer than the usual 75 minutes!)

Nintendo's conference has been on the day the show floor opens for quite a few years.

It's gonna be on June 5th. *Thuesday* 9AMPST/12PMEST

Just think about how amazing it would be if Suda51 announces @E3...

Again, sorry if already posted, but just to destroy any of those Steam on Wii U hopes:

Regarding a potential name change of Wii U, due mainly to the trademark problems they are currently seeing, I saw this:

wiiutrend5iwfj.png

Source: http://www.harrisinteractive.com/insights/equitrendrankings.aspx

It's from Harris Interactive's annual poll EquiTrend, where Nintendo Wii was crowned Brand of the Year. They issued a press release about it a few days ago: http://www.virtualpressoffice.com/p...omOtherPageToDisableHistory=Y&menuName=Search

We've heard talk about internal interest in wanting to change the name, for various reasons, but with these numbers would it be that smart? Sure, it's not greatly beating Xbox 360, but to introduce something brand new to just let the Wii name sail away to the ocean where Game Boy and Gamecube now reside would more or less be to throw money into the sea. If I were to advice Nintendo something, it would be that they at E3 this year greatly emphasize that Wii U is an entirely new console and not a peripheral to Wii. At first consumers may have a little trouble understanding what it all means but with good marketing Wii U could certainly thrive on store shelves together with its predecessor (well, the controllers and games for it anyway).

Of course could the Wii name be kept but the "U" in it could go. But it's a rather clever name I think. As Reggie said at E3 2011, it could stand for "unifying", "unique" and even "utopian". Not as simple as Wii, pronounced We, but still clever.

Just watched Iwata's "Heart of a Gamer" speech from GDC 2005.

This man. Wow.

Between this and his Iwata Asks series, he's a big reason that I don't worry too much about Nintendo's direction. He knows the industry and the process inside-out, and it seems like he has a very tight grasp of the long-term perils/potential/promise that await.
