Wii U Speculation Thread The Third: Casting Dreams in The Castle of Miyamoto

SS didn't bomb but is nowhere near the the logical expectations regarding Wii userbase and previous Zelda game sales, including Link's Crossbow Training.
Sadly SS had a few things working against it. Like the M+ requirement and the toxicity of the Wii market in Japan.

Bomb might have been too strong a word for Skyward Sword, but factor in that it was likely the biggest budget Nintendo game ever made and all the associated costs of a year long marketing campaign... I think its fair to say Nintendo expected more than 400,000 units in Japan.

Ah interesting, so there's been price cuts in quite a few countries then. Seems like the US was the only place where sales were truly strong.

Hey, i have an idea

Let's organize a "Wii U Buzz Day" on every big cities, fake cardboard padlet in our hands with funny images on it, singing Mario Bros theme, and wearing the new club nintendo polos:

Of course, media coverage involved, and Nintendo's local antenna will reward us with goodies, AR cards, and Samus Mugs.

Yeah.. after seeing those polos, looks like I'll have to keep an eye on eBay.

You know, when I read statements like these:

THQ:
The Wii U version of games from ALL developers and publishers, have potential for much smoother framerates, improved textures, and additional bonus content that the 360/PS3 version's won't have. In a way, buying the Wii U version over the 360/PS3 versions, will be like buying the Blu-ray version of a movie instead of the standard dvd version. You get better visuals, and more additional content with the Wii U version of any game compared to the other console version. But this will only happen as long as a developer or publisher puts in the time and effort instead of doing a straight port.

Its apparent that developers need to be called out
for their incompetency or capabilities.
We cant go around clumping statements or
work from C class developers with A class developers and
use their as an indication of WiiU's potential.

We need to call out publishers and developers who make straight ports off last gen hardware.
Which Vigil appears to be doing:

THQ:
The Wii U is much more powerful than the other HD consoles, so Wii U doesn't have a huge problem doing 1080p for the majority of its games. Will Darksiders 2 and Metro: Last Light be in 1080p on Wii U? I can't speak for the teams behind those games. I don't work on those specific teams so I can't say what they plan to do with the Wii U versions of their games as far as graphics or content go. I do know based on the specs I've seen, the console is more than capable of graphics that surpass current consoles. It's like I said before. Expect majority of third party Wii U games from most publishers to have true 1080p, additional content, and smoother framrates than what the PS3/360 versions offer. If you want the DEFINITIVE version of any game in your library, I would suggest either the PC version or the Wii U version...at least for now.

"Expect majority of third party Wii U games from most publishers to have true 1080p, additional content, and smoother framrates than what the PS3/360 versions offer."

This means that the WiiU will be pushing 2.25 times as many pixels as most PS3/Xbox 360 games does (in 720p) and also have a smoother framerate.

I'm happy to see sites like 1up and Computer and Video Games are actually defending the Wii U, if the "less powerful than" rumours are true.

Hope in Gaming Journalism/Internet +1.

The only good I think these articles might do is finally get Nintendo to say something. Chance of it happening is super slim, but it's about the only good I can see.

I'm dumbfounded how this can turn into FAR less powerful. I'm gonna trust a respected source on the record.

Wasn't that interview fake?

I don't even look at it as defending. It's just common sense. Nintendo has been on their own trajectory for a while now.

It's just that the detractors have been on such an offensive, that saying normal sane things has become being defensive or defending something.

Not the greatest shop in the world, but I like the idea... -WW.

Oh god everytime I see a post with a Link picture in it the first thing I check is which hand he uses for his sword (I see you mirrored a bit there haha), what have you done to me GAF, I feel like Huelen :o

That would be lovely of course, but why not go for the full slam dunk while you're at it, Complete Zelda Collection! Too bad the anniversary has basically come and gone already, would've been a nice fit.

Yep, same.

This might just be me, and people might criticize this point of view for holding back progression or whatever, but I honestly don't care if the Wii U is "on par" with the 360 and PS3. In my opinion, much of Nintendo's first party output on the Wii is only a higher image quality away from being some of the best looking games of this generation. The Galaxy games look incredible, and that's on severely compromised hardware.

If people buy a Wii U because they want good Nintendo games then I don't think the technical comparison with other consoles is an issue in the slightest.

Made a boxart myself:

I would really like a collection like this because of The Wind Waker. That game is gorgeous in Dolphin, should be about the same with Wii U. If this would be that interesting at launch I don't know, Skyward Sword released just last year and people probably wouldn't be that ecstatic to purchase the same game again, albeit it features HD visuals. Though I suppose they could add some Wii U Remote support, though that would work better with The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess seeing as they do not feature a control scheme like the one in Skyward Sword.

It's just nice to see somebody thinking reasonably.

I've been saying it for months--Nintendo doesn't NEED the "hardcore" gamer that's interested in high-end graphics, etc. They never had them on the Wii and it was hugely successful.

It goes against my personal desires (I'd love to see them put out a powerful console that competes with the Sony/MS consoles) but, business-wise, I see why they would keep it cost-effective.
