Wii U Speculation Thread The Third: Casting Dreams in The Castle of Miyamoto

Just read those E3 posts.

Gaming is so popular right now that I bet E3 would be overflooded with people if they did it like in the old days.

And only 51-52 days left.. Damn, time is sure flying fast in this modern day and age.

I can't wait for E3!

Nah.
I just think you'll see extensions of the Mini games and messaging e.t.c. and being able to transfer data to your WiiU from your 3DS and vice versa. WiiU will probably act as some kind if spot pass hub.

Thanks to the download play feature in a DS, and 3DS being Wireless G, it is quite possible to have games like 4 swords or crystal chronicles, all a game would need is to have the ability to send data to 3DSs wirelessly over the network, which should be a built in feature of the Wii U anyways.

How do you guys think the console will look?

Like last years E3 with little changes/improvements or will it have a completely new case?

Just to be clear... have they done it before? I mean... present a new console and change its case drastically?

I'm sure we will see some tweaks here and there, but the design overall will be the same.
btw... the same applies to the controller

Nintendo DS was ugly

Edit:

Sorry. Here's a before and after

Nintendo DS was ugly

Dito. DS got a complete overhaul.

And with people mistaking the controller for a Wii addon because the console in the back looked alot like a Wii, they may want do make it look more distinct from the Wii.

May even help eliminating the risk of people thinking its just a revisition of the old Wii...

EDIT: DAMN Those DS E3 demo units are alot uglier than i remembered, lol

The controller will definitely have some changes.

Oh, and the name of the console will change as well.

Yeah, I'm sure the controller will have changes... hopefully, the button placement is/was a priority
and about the name.... I'm not sure tbh, there are more cons than pros about changing the name. Time will tell :P

I finally figured out what the up facing camera is for on the padlet. It's to capture your disappointment whilst playing sub-hd games at 20 fps.

No this is for the Videochat session Nintendo fans will have when more and more precious developers close their doors and the videogame market collapses because of it. We will then laugh for hours... and laugh... and go back to play Super Mario Universe :)

I hope the screen is water proof against tears of regret and lamentation.

Nintendo unfortunalety (for you :p) does the best gameplay in the industry and the art style/wizardry to put every other developer to shame. Banking against Nintendo is like trying to catch a moving train... Naked and with your bare hands!

ColdBlooder, that is cold-blooded.
Muahahahahaha..!!!

Well, it's certainly not waterproof in that you can't submerge it in water, even for a second, without breaking it but it can probably withstand light spills so long it's wiped up right away.

So you're saying we were lucky ps360's gamepads had no cameras? Gotcha.

Ah I see that Cyberheater has finally dropped the pretence that he isn't a troll.
But his motives seem noble. Apparently he believes that if he trolls nintendo hard enough they'd say 'Ok, cyberheater, here're the specs to prove you wrong.'

; )

I think the Wii U box will look slightly different.

The controller will definitely have some changes.

Oh, and the name of the console will change as well.

I hope that they don't change the controller too much, as I have grown to rather like it. The curves are perfect. The hand support ledge looks like it's quite comfy, something that I can game with for hours on-end.
(Then again.. if they want to COPY/PASTE the GameCube button layout onto the right-hand side of the uPad, I'd be very overjoyed.)

And the console name I am more and more convinced will change, incorporating the "Wii" name somewhere but changing the 'U' part.

I just read some statements from Vigil, around the time of E3,
where they emphatically state that they had no intention on improving
the visuals of Darksiders WiiU. Therefore, by no means is their game
an indication of the power of the console.

Yes, they did say if the console appeared to be so powerful that they could
directly port the PC version, they might do that.

But let me say this. And I know Im preaching to the choir. From what I understand consoles
generally use exotic architecture. So at face value, one cannot determine what
you can accomplish with that console without taking the time to fully experiment
with its guts. This separates the talented and well funded
developers from the rest. Developers like Naughty Dog and Factor 5 come to mind.
Because its only those developers that take the time
to understand the architecture, will be able to make magic happen.

Its obvious Vigil is not doing so with their first game on the WiiU.
This could be for various reasons: due to lack of time, lack of budget, changing devkits,
having to spend their resources on understanding the controller, placing their bets
on the HDtwins having a larger userbase and not wanting to upset them. But also, in the case of the WiiU, what if they are including Darksiders I ?

I remember reading they would look into improving the visuals in the machine had enough horsepower, otherwise it would be identical :/

It could be 25 years ahead in technology and be 10x 720 or ps4 in power and devs wouldnt care about it. (Just using 10x to make a point here...) NO multiplat title will look better on WiiU. Get over it. Only 1st and 2nd party games (And maybe 3rd party exclusives) will look better!

lol wut

Trademark issues..? Hopefully!
Yeah, the opposition made by the company Information Technology Junction Limited on the trade mark Wii U in England still hasn't been resolved. And in North America Nintendo cannot pursuit action on the Wii U trade mark since required documents are still to be supplied.

With 57 days until E3, I wonder if they can work it out. To show the Wii U logo prior to having the trade mark defined could propel even more trouble.

Search trade mark number 010377331 through the OHIM if you wanna know more: http://oami.europa.eu/CTMOnline/RequestManager/en_SearchBasic?

480p 20 FPS

Avatar like graphics in the palm of my hands? Yes please.

Can you imagine the cinematic effects they could pull off? Imagine that bird demo but with better textures, shaders, lighting, and 2xSS.

Trademark issues..? Hopefully!
Yep. Especially if Nintendo would have to fight such a battle in multiple jurisdictions.

"No multiplat title will look better on WiiU"?
We'll be lucky if they even come to exist on Wii U. Third parties are going to want to go extreeeeme-to-the-max with their visuals so that the games are fundamentally better.

Case in point: for troll enemy creatures in games to be truly next-gen and not some cheapy Nintendo "on par" step or even "half a gen" step, it is absolutely imperative and crucial that we be able to see each individual asswart hair, flowing in directions that change dynamically when the wind changes direction. Otherwise the game will SUCK! I mean, why bother with new hardware if we can't see that kind of shit, right?

Dynamic troll asswart hair: truly, a nextgen feature worth risking bankruptcy. And Nintendo's Wii U won't have it. Weep with me, my fellow Ninthings. Don't worry.. it's okay - they've at least seen fit to make the Fischer-Price-lookin' tablet waterproof.

:P~~~~

Their propably already developing that highly advanced "asswart hair" physic engine that at least needs the power of 2 xbox 360 duct taped together :)

EDIT: btw we should really compile a list of names that the trolls have given us over the years and vote on the best one :D

its rather funny that most (unfortanetly not all... you will be missed Ubermatik) are totally resistent to troll attempts. Nintendo gamers sure have matured over the last years!

I remember reading they would look into improving the visuals in the machine had enough horsepower, otherwise it would be identical :/

This is what I read from back in July 2011.

When asked how Darksiders 2 on Wii U would compare to its brethren on the Xbox 360 and PS3, Donald replied “At a minimum on par, for sure.” While Donald said that they’ll take advantage of the extra power if the Wii U turns out to be a monster of a machine, his praise did come with a little disclaimer: “It’s probably going to be the same graphically, regardless of any minor or major horsepower improvements on the Wii U.

“It’s going to be a direct port. That’s what we’re planning on. But that’s based off of what we believe the hardware’s going to be like.”
http://nexus404.com/Blog/2011/07/19...ual-concessions-with-wii-u-darksiders-2-port/

There is definitely something shady going on with Vigil and Nintendo, and possibly other developers.

Here is why...

VIGIL stated:
“We have Darksiders II completely running on the Wii U right now,” told Eurogamer today.

“Coming into the show we were ready to go. We could have demonstrated it on the hardware but Nintendo decided not to have full games shown in the booth

“But if you were to go into Vigil in Austin, Texas right now, Darksiders II is fully running on the new hardware.”

“The Darksiders team was one of the first teams to get dev kits. We’ve had dedicated engineers on it working seven day weeks leading up to the show.”

“I’ve got all the emails. We now have it running with the controller. So we could have shown it.”

As we know they managed this in just 5 weeks:

If this had you wondering or even doubting how capable the new system was, then have no fear and rest your mind as THQ’s Darksiders II, looks just as good on Wii U as it does on PS3 and Xbox 360. Developer Vigil spent five weeks building for Wii U in anticipation of a reveal at E3.

In 5 weeks they have the whole game ready to show ON PAR with the HDTWINS during E3.
And we know VIGIL already stated the console was more powerful last year around E3:

Colin Bonstead was asked whether the Wii U version of Darksiders II might be the best one, he replied that he believes so because "the hardware is more powerful and it will have some extra features that I think will be actually useful to people playing the game."

This would be based on which devkit?
Thats almost a year ago. Are you telling me that during that time they have not been able to tweak this game to look or run better on the WiiU? But thats not the mystery here. The mystery that we have is why NINTENDO had no problem showing trailers of PS3 & 360 games to represent titles coming out for the WiiU, but had a problem with VIGIL (and others) showing their game that was already on par with the PS3 & 360 on the show floor?

What is Nitnendo game? Why have they had such a strict NDA this whole year regarding the WiiU? There is more to this than meets the eye. If Nintendo was not concerned about being as good as the PS360, they would have no problem showcasing various third party titles to the public this past year. They could have at least shown full games running behind close doors.

Im getting hyped for E3.

Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if one or both of the New Unsustainable Twins (NUTs) had one main GPU - and then a second GPU solely for processing of asswart hair behaviour, complete with its own power supply and liquid cooling system.

Price? $399. A mere $350 loss per unit. Certainly MS and indeed Sony can afford this right? And they're willing to, because unlike cheap-ass Nintendo, they're willing to push gaming forward into the future.. a future of shiny troll asswart hair!

{Of course Nintendo fans are maturing. While the age distribution of Nintendo's audience may have a significant weight around the younger age groups, there's also a heavy weighting around older age groups as well. It's the mushy middle that Nintendo is lighter on - teenagers and twentysomethings.}

No surprises, but Havok finally got around to update their website and now mentions Wii U support for the following middleware packages:

Havok Physics
Havok Animation
Havok Behavior
Havok Destruction
Havok Cloth
Havok AI
Havok Script
Havok Vision Engine (formerly Trinigy Vision Game Engine)

Everything, basically. Still nothing from Autodesk, Epic or Crytek.
