Will DS touch technology be the key to beating the PSP?

MP3 players, movie playback, and whatever else Sony has tacked on to PSP is worthless to gameplay. The touch screen, the wireless LAN capability, and Bluetooth are all things that can make portably gaming much better. DS has the resources, dont' deny it.

Who said anything about gameplay? PSP will have plenty of games with great gameplay, but its extra deatures will MOST CERTAINLY warrant purchases from more people than the touch screen will. Especially concerning people with technical knowhow and who can use the memory sticks to take advantage of the PSP's media features. Honestly, the ability to put your own movies/music/pictures onto a stick and utilize them on the PSP, in addition to having all those great games....you don't think that'll be a big selling point? Its already converted a lot of people on the net. As for your average consumer, the ability to get albums/movies on UMD are features that are VERY attractive, even if they aren't practical. Its just the mere ability to multi-task on portable units these days, its an extremely attractice selling point.

Its like the mindless Xbots who claim that the Xbox is the best simply because its the most powerful and has HALO. Realistically, the Xbox has some good games, but in the end, its all the technical prowess which attracts new buyers.

What it boils down to is that PSP has a lot of features that people want and like to see in their portable devices. Useful or not, it helps the image of the system. The DS has....well, a touch screen. Some gamers will like it, non-gamers will think its neat, but not worth purchasing the portable for. I honestly just can't believe that the touch screen would be a selling point for non-gamers.

Nintendo is the catcher, Sony is the pitcher.

It's a story as old as time itself.
Naw, Nintendo's just versatile. Sega on the other hand, they're a flaming catcher almost exclusively. ;)

I think tech geeks will like the additional features, but not the general public, because the proprietary formats for both video and music don't make it all that attractive in value. Buy seperate UMDs for movies AND buy more memory sticks just to fit a few CDs on there? People will find better places to spend their money if they want movies or music.
