Will Smith slaps Chris Rock at the Oscars

Itā€™s not even an offensive joke, Demi Moore in GI Jane was a badass. I almost wonder if it would have gone differently if he said ā€˜I look forward to see you as the new Furiosa in the new Mad Max movieā€™. But honestly she didnā€™t even look overly agitated over it and basically rolled her eyes. It was Will Smith who just seemed to snap.

Anger is a weird thing in human society; You get angry and every fibre in your body tells you to do something physically: adrenaline pumps, your heart rate goes up, your body goes tense, and your mind goes to the singular objective of your anger with no other thought behind it. All in all evolution basically has you wired subliminally to gear up for combat mode every time you get angry, but all of human society tells you to control it and keep it in check without actually having a way of telling people how to keep it in check.

He flipped his lid, and did something remarkably stupidā€¦.but itā€™s almost a microcosm of mankind itself: We get angry over dumb shit and then we do dumb shit.

Yeah I honestly don't know what you guys are doing interacting with him. Seems like a troll to me.

Which side are you on?
Team real, it was the classic ā€œattacker-victim case.
Will smithā€™s go physical and verbally abusive then 10 mins after goes acting like it is the victim and apologized to everyone expect the person who his acts were done upon.
Then after the show was done, went all party and dancing like nothing happened. Pretty sure next time they ask him about it he will complain how his biggest moment was ruin because not of his actions but because of Rock.

yep. exactly.
It was an ok joke. Not everyone has to know if she has a condition or not. If I looked like that and someone said a gi jane or furiosa joke? that's a compliment really.
Will just showed terribly stupidity and how he thinks he is above everyone else in that room. How he is "the bigger man" by making it personal. What a stuck up fool.
He should just go and shit on him in the break or best - after the show if it really offended him

fuck that, invite gervais next year and let him double down on this snowflake so that he can show us his best phony ass laugh

Will is clearly not mentally stable and has that Kanye or Jussie level of crazy/bipolar,, but I think even for him this was out of character and it's becoming obvious that jada is the one that is nefarious and manipulative here.. she is the type of person that will start wars over petty shit
This is supposed to be the most prestigious event for movie award

Theres nothing funny about disrespectfull maners and temper tantrum on stage like this

Theres nothing respectfull about slapping your host or roasting one of your audiences illness

What both will smith and chris rock did was uneceptable and an a total embarasment in front of million people and the show itself

People need to learn to act acordingly and know how to behave especially on important stage like this

Chris joke was good. The comedians there always joke about the audience.
He compared her to a movie hero. Would it be so different if he said "looking forward to mad max furiosa? "
It's a compliment joke.
Yes - you might be balding but it's super cool too!
There is no obligation on everyone to know that someone is ill.
Anyway - place to discuss this is off the stage and off the event

It's pretty simple to me. What we saw was a man that clearly wants to hit his wife but can't. So he took the opportunity to take his frustrations with his wife out on someone smaller than him. Everyone knows you don't sucker punch somebody (or slap). Pathetic. He went up there all smiles. Rock probably thought they'd have words.

We all know he wouldn't have thrown hands at anybody he didn't think he was tougher than. He did nothing to the men his wife fucked.

Theres on big underlying problem with that statement

Is that you will never know how people will react to your joke, different people have different reaction cos people are not the same

Such as me I find Chris Rock joke to be distateful and completely out of context to be said during this event

That "hair loss condition" is common place in various forms for both men and women. It's like making a joke about freckles on skin.

Alopecia isn't the same as male pattern baldness. It's an autoimmune disease.

That said... I find it odd and interesting that folks are calling Will Smith a psychopath when he hasn't been anything ANYWHERE like that before. Did anyone say that about any other actor that got into a more involved fight? The dude who plays Homelander? Crowe? Farrell?

He broke character this one time ... have any of you? Like you get fed up and lose your cool?

Will SHOULD have told Rock off... There's a lot of nuance in the whole conversation of the dynamics of what went on that I don't think will be receptive here but ...

If anyone takes away his Oscar, then they should do the same with Weinstein and the kiddy rapist that moved to France instead of facing legal justice here in America (can't remember his name right now).

sure but you are the comedian. The jokes have to be sharp or else nobody will even listen to them. That's the stand up routine.
Even if he offended (which I think the joke was a compliment), it is his job which he maybe failed at. Nothing more

Nobody cares about condition.
I am not obliged to know about everyone's conditions.
Hell, I might offend someone talking about sunny weather today because I had no idea he had skin cancer or his wife had a sun stroke. You can't know this and are not responsible for knowing.
And this is a comedian. He throws these left and right. if he had to research this - he would have no jokes

If you offend someone on stage wether its on ill intend or not you must be ready to receive the repercussions

Me personally offending someone wive ( in this case spesifically her ilnessess) on oscar is innapropriate

I don't agree. It is a stand up comedian.
If the joke didn't land - talk about it after event.
I liked the joke. I've been joked about way worse

However there is a certain red line in joke that you must not crossed towards people and especially on stage like this

I hate to give Barstool Sports any attention
Why is that?

Also, fuck Will Smith and his wife. Chris Rock told a joke and now the precedence is set- you don't like a joke you can slap the comedian with zero consequences! Hollywood leading the way. The fact Will Smith was comforted after hitting someone shows how backwards these pricks are. That he was allowed to stay on the premises AND accept his award with standing ovations shows the bubble these clowns live in. Disgraceful. Chris Rock can walk with his head held high.

Even Will Smith didn't think it was inappropriate at first. Guy was laughing with the rest of the crowd. It wasn't until he felt the laser vision across the way that he decided he needed to act in some ridiculously bizarre fashion.

I disagree. They don't choose Chris Rock so that he just stands there and reads the prompter all the time. They chose a comedian for a reason.

The problem isā€¦ we all know the Oscarā€™s and Hollywood is all about being fake and pretending to be perfect.
My issue here is they letting him go accept an award, giving him the worlds attention to play the victim.

Joke was lame/terrible? Boo him very loudly!

Todays a major catasthrope, a complete failure and total mockery for oscar award

Black Panther was nominated for best picture in 2019. That kinda makes the oscars the perfect stage for comedy because thats a fucking shitty joke if i ever heard one.
Thats completly irrelevant for todays issue

I don't really want to go into the metrics of them choosing a host. However, the man was slapped on the stage. The choice doesn't even matter at that point. He's allowed to host the show without fear of being slapped by a hothead in the front row.

Not if you want to put a "oscars is holy" "oscars is an amazing award and no place for fun" "oscars isnt thet place for comedy because its a serious award"-stamp on it. Then it's totally relevant because Oscars isnt what it used to be and the comedy-part has been a part of it for what, 50+ yeras?

Check the lists of hosts and tell me there isnt a place for comedy on stage of the oscars...

Rest

All these years later I still chuckle at what a fucking moron that guy is.
Why is that?
I don't watch or care about any sports thing, so the only Barstool thing I've seen regularity is that guy eating pizza. After watching a bunch of those, I've concluded he's an asshole and I don't like him. He's Bartstool Sports to me, and I am loath to give him clicks.

You bringing black panther or others here is irrelevant for todays issue

Completly out of topic and has nothing to do with this incident

I don't see why Will Smith would agree to do this willingly. It's such a bad look for him. And it doesn't do anything for the award ceremony either. I'm even less likely to watch it next year.

Another thought... I'm kinda mad most are talking about this and not the great moments of the show... Like Troy Kotsur's acceptance speech.

I can't fucking believe how many people are turning this into some sort of weird racial thing, how does that even work?

Will Smith is clearly insane, by the way. There have been rumours about him for a long time, from being involved in scientology to how he got to be a made man in Hollywood and stuff about his sexuality. A lot of it is quite conspiracy-laden but clearly something weird is going on there. I mean the kids are weird as fuck as well.
You mean..he didnt get to be so famous in the early 00's because of Wild wild west and mib.
