Will Smith slaps Chris Rock at the Oscars

I didn’t know she had alopecia, apparently she’s pretty insecure about it from what I’ve read. So, well done Will, I guess, now everyone knows about.

I read this somewhere else and I can't stop laughing, specially the aunt part xD

It seems that his youth with the uncles of Bel Air didn't help much, since this morning, like a common thug, Smith punched comedian Chris Rock in the middle of the Oscars ceremony. After learning of the altercation, his mother has decided to send him back to his aunt and uncle to learn discipline.

The news has been very well received by Carlton, his cousin, who still lives with his parents and is currently investing in cryptocurrencies from his room.

Who has not been so happy about this return has been Uncle Phil, who assures that he is no longer young enough to put Smith upright, nor does he have sciatica well enough to throw Jazz out of the window.

However, the biggest surprise has been taken by Smith himself, who upon entering the mansion has run into a lady of Chinese origin who claims to be the 'usual' Aunt Vivian.

Why is violence never ok, but verbal abuse has no limits?

Are you serious? Verbal abuse is the ultimato on social media, without backlash unless someones favor.

Violence lead you to a different route. Have consequences. Don't get tricky by 'no consequences' Will Smith x Chris Rock. Do that in public and you can even go arrested.

If you ask me, the joke was bad and the assault was bad.

If it was staged, Chris Rock would have had a way better follow up line.

“It was a GI Jane joke, dude.”

And the follow up was flubbed a bit, “The greatest moment in television history,” rather than a dig at the Oscars.

The question I keep asking myself is this.

Why is violence never ok, but verbal abuse has no limits?

Chris Rock will heal from that slap quickly, Jada hiwever might feel that insult for far longer.

Nah, fuck that. Sometimes the only answer is violence.
It does bring up an interesting debate to when is it morally acceptable to hit someone. That’s obviously different from the legal standard. And I think collectively society, whether technically legal or not, everyone has a certain threshold there you say “fuck it, you crossed the line, you’re getting hit.” What is that line is the question. Obviously that is subjective to the individual. And I think it’s extremely rare for someone to not have that threshold at some point. Even the nicest most mild mannered people will hit someone if they’re pushed far enough.

I don’t think last night was it. It was a joke. It was meant to bring laughs, not harm.

Walking down the street with your kid who has a disability and stranger walks by and insults or laughs at them. That’s hit worthy.

Come home from work and catch your husband or wife in bed with someone else. If you’re a man, the man your wife is fucking is hit worthy. If you’re a woman, both your husband and the woman he’s fucking are hit worthy.

Have someone at your work or neighborhood who constantly harasses you about something. Whether it’s your looks or an insecurity or some type of issue over and over. Hit worthy.

Have a neighbor who constantly revs his car’s engine at all hours of the day? Hit worthy.

I want to be team fake, but Chris Rock actually looks stunned/shocked there, and that awkwardness is too natural and beyond his acting ability.

Well this is quite the stupid take.

Maybe if he was being verbally abusive you might have a point.

Chris Rock is a comedian telling jokes at an award show. Its practically written into the contract that people in the audience will be the butt of some jokes. Not to mention the actual joke in question is tame as fuck.

Jesus, dont go to any comedy clubs! Occasionally comedians do crowd work. You might get your feelings hurt and feel the need to assault someone for "verbal abuse"

So insecure that she goes bald at the Oscars instead of wearing a wig

Go figure

From her expression, she didnt look hurt. She looked annoyed.
Yup. Definitely a vanity thing. No one is above a joke, some of these actors actually think they are royalty. Just look at the way they all dressed last night :messenger_tears_of_joy: it looked like a freak show.

Because children are taught "sticks and stones will break my bones but words will never hurt me"?

Or they used to be. Now words are "violence" but physically assaulting someone is ok? Give me a freakin' break.

You know what's really funny about all this ... alopecia is the same thing most men are walking around with after a certain age. It's everywhere, and millions, if not billions, of men and women get it eventually. It's not some unique thing, it's an incredibly common condition, and ... it's more than ok to make bald men jokes, correct? So what about equality? When did that fly out the window? It's just funny how in situations like this, women are all of a sudden delicate flowers you cannot say one damn thing about. People can't have it both ways. Either we are all the same, or we are different. Getting enraged over a joke about hair to the point where you assault someone on live tv? You couldn't make stuff like that up. And also to be so self important to not be able to laugh, she doesn't even look bad that way. Complete absurdity all around.

If someone insulted your wife, comedian or not, how would you all handle it?

That's the one thing I haven't seen brought up.
I wouldn't resort to violence like I'm some schoolkid, jesus christ.

People are saying "yeah it's only a slap". So apparently it's okay to hit comedians now for the job they've been hired for? Or if you want to continue down that hillariously flawed line of logic: it's apparently okay to just hit anyone then because they said something that might've offended you?

"She said something mean so I hit her! How would you have handled it?!"
Like an adult.

This is such a shit take.

Healing from a slap quickly isn't really the point. And the joke wasn't even that scathing. But really, if Jada is walking around feeling hurt by it for anything longer than 3 milliseconds, then maybe that's a good thing. It's a far way to drop for some on their high horses.

Tell me, realistically, how going up there and slapping/hitting someone is more justified in this case than approaching them after the show to say, "hey, that wasn't cool..."?

Lmao this is cringe as fuck - no one partying just 30 camera phone stuck in his face whilst he mimes like he’s a circus attraction. Hollywood is something else.
Eh. I was on vacation recently and EVERYONE acts like this nowadays. Everyone has their cameras out either recording the sights and sounds or taking selfies. No one really enjoys being there. This wasnt just Americans. It was every race, creed and nationality. Everyone is on their phones now.

My family was giving me shit for not taking any pics.

Verbal abuse?

It's a fucking joke. Dont show up to public events where comedians are paid to do their job if you have a thin skin.

And Chris Rock was literally slapped in front of hundreds of millions of people, and was left in a position where he couldnt fight back or risk creating an even bigger scene where two black men are rolling around on the oscar stage. Bullied kids carry trauma from school all the way to adulthood. He took the high road but no man will ever get over a slap quickly. Such public humiliation will last a lifetime.
