I'm beginning to think this has a real possibility.

The PS6:
- Has no exclusive games. Hell, no exclusive generational games.
- Will be a lot more expensive
- The GPU won't be that much better than the PS5 Pro

The main reason to buy it is if you absolutely must have 60 fps in GTA 6 (perhaps there will be some other 30 fps only PS5 games as well) and are also willing to pay for it.

I'm discounting the portable since it's DOA because it needed to be fast enough to be able to run PS5 (6) games without dev intervention. Clearly it won't be.

I've predicted for years that PS6 will be a decline from PS5. Many others have as well.

Costs are going up.
Exclusives will decrease or be non-existent.
Everything will be cross gen.
PS5 was sold on the goodwill of PS4. PS6 will be sold on the goodwill of PS5.

I do think the handheld has some appeal though and could shake things up for them.

If there are no games that take advantage of the PS6 then I am going to go out on a limb and say it will be very slow going for the PS6. Cross gen is going to be much longer than the PS4/PS5 period.

I also think PS6 will be a tough sell because PS5 and portable as well will get all games. But core console gamers will buy PS6. Because 3x raster performance and at least 5x RT performance according to rumors is still a good upgrade. PS6 will easily play PS5 quality mode at 60fps with RT, better IQ, scaling.

If Sony doesn't discontinue PS5 and continues selling it alongside PS6 and the latter is $700+, I could see PS5 outselling it.

That said, Sony might discontinue PS5 and have rumored low cost PS6 instead or even hybrid handheld.

Considering i expect the PS6 to release at least in late 2028, it's 3 years away, just because actual consoles are still fine it doesn't mean they will be by then, the jump will be big.

Sales might be down just for the PS6 tho, but PS6+Portable, i bet these will be considerably higher

I don't think the PS6 will release until 2028 at the earliest. By then sony would have recovered from the live service flop, more first party games will be releasing more consistently and the price/performance difference between the PS5 and PS6 will be big enough for the PS6 to actually have hype around its release.

Non.

And few people want a PS6.

They've always sold alongside, and seemingly always will. Especially with cross-gen.

However, the RAM issues may leave them an out if they decide to change things up.

No reason to buy a PlayStation 6 if there isn't a reason (game/s) to buy it for. I just might go the PC route for the PS6 generation, or at least I am strongly considering it. As exclusives and a reason to own a console is basically non-existent now unless you're buy a Switch/Switch 2.

PS5 had a slow start due to COVID and supply constraints, this one will be lucky to launch into an economy where people can afford shit. Unless they push the release date back a couple years I don't think there's a chance in hell it will outsell the PS5.

What is this question? PS5 outselling PS6 in 2027-2028, or PS5 in 2020-2021 outselling PS6 in 2027-2028?

Either way, none of these are happening.

I'm usually a "buy a new console on day 1" type of person but, outside of Gran Turismo 7, I hardly play either my ps5 pro or ps5. I think I may have fallen out of Sony's target audience because the last exclusive I finished and enjoyed was Astrobot.

At this rate, I might not even buy a ps6 at launch. They now need to prove to me that they can still release good games. Furthermore, if they continue to put their games on pc, I most certainly will not buy a playstation going forward. I stopped buying the Xbox for this exact reason. When you take away the incentive to purchase your console(exclusive content) then, it's much easier to source that content elsewhere at a fraction of the price.

Nah, Sony have demonstrated that people will buy the next Playstation regardless of how much they sell it for and how few games it is launching with. PS6 will do very well.
