Will you be buying an Xbox 2?

Probably not, depends on what games it comes out with. I'm still holding off buying an Xbox today, even though i own three games for it (Halo 2 CE, Panzer Dragoon and Kingdom Under Fire) because the chances of seeing these on PC (or other console) is next to zilch. When they show off the console exclusives I'll decide then.

Maybe, it depends.

My choice will come down to either PS3 or Xbox2.
Once Halo 3 releases I'm sure I won't be able to resist, and although I'm saying now that I don't plan on buying one at launch, if I see that Unreal game or a football game that blows me away I'm sure to be suckered in.

While I'm swamped with the backlog of Xbox games I have to play I'm still buying one. If its anything like the support Xbox has received then it'll be worth every penny from day one for me.

I bought every console this generation. I expect to do the same for the next one.
A sequel to Ninja Gaiden 2004 (the best game in a long while) would make me kill for an Xbox2, though.

Really like my Xbox, so yeah.

Waiting for the first price drop just makes sense though.. hrm, guess we'll see how sensible I am.

Would you want to have two PCs next to your TV just to play Halo 2?

I'd rather want not to use my new expensive console too much to make it last longer, and use my Xbox to play the games they were primarily meant for.

I will buy X-Box 2 or PS3 all based on specs and the way the games look/play. I currently only have X-Box and purchased a Gamecube for about 2 weeks and olny played Resident Evil 0 on it...

I must see the games in action before I decide on a system...

Definitely. Xbox is my favorite game system ever. I'm had more fun and played more enjoyable games on there than I have even in my life.

Yes but probably not at launch unless absolutely compelled. My current Xbox is far and away my most played system and I'm finally getting it modded soon so I may just hold off and see since I barely have enough time for the 3 consoles plus GBA as is. I'll likely get it at the first price drop (who am I kidding, I'll end up getting it at launch on a whim in all likelihood).

They'd have to unviel something pretty special for me to bother with it in 2005, its a case of 6th time bitten, 7th time shy on launch consoles.

I'll have to get one when ever bungies first game comes out though.

Not sure. I fucking hate PC games and a good amount of western games so I'll just wait and see if xbox2 will have enough Jap support. On top of that I find MS's choices completely stupid nowadays and I'm not entirelly sure that the console will be a success.

At the moment I'm leaning towards the not, or at the most when it's very cheap.

Even with buying pretty much every Xbox game I'm interested in it's been the least played system this gen for me. So in the interest of saving money and space under the TV, I'm going to try and avoid getting one. I may cave though (although not for Halo this time).

PS3 is a definite, unless there's a HUGE migration of games with the generational shift. When will depend on its lineup and when I feel I've got the most out of this gens backlog.

Revolution? If it was a straight up Nintendo console then I'd say definitely. As it is, it'll depend on what I think of its 'revolutionary' element.

Don't know.

I'll definitely get the PS3, but I made it this generation with getting the XBox for $199 months later, played Halo, Ghost Recon, Morrowind, & KOTOR and sold it back. I just didn't have time for it with the PS2 and I felt like I wasted my money.

And with a daughter on the way, I'm going to have even less time. Money, for me, is not an issue, it's my time.

I might get one. I almost got an Xbox. But it'll really have to show that it's got legs. I mean, if the PS3 is getting GTA exclusive again, then what's the point? If Xenon can get a lot of marquee titles early, then I'm there. PEACE.

The interesting thing will be to see where the hardcore, tech diehards go.

This generation it was the Xbox. Next generation, if the PS3 is substantially more powerful (a big if, but it could easily be as big a gap between the XBox & PS2), then it comes down to what advantages Xbox has.

IMO, they are: (this is, of course, without truly being able to compare specs, but assuming that a later system is more powerful)

Xenon Pros
-------------------------------
1) Ease of development
2) XBox Live head-start
3) Microsoft franchises (Halo, PGR, etc)
4) Released first means getting fans to commit early
5) More money to buy exclusives than anyone else
6) Western Developers w and w/o PC ports (Bioware, Lionhead, etc)

PS3 Pros
---------------------------------
1) Most powerful system (likely, but certainly not guaranteed)
2) Blu-Ray Drive (storage, movie player, etc)
3) Sony's Franchises (GT, SOCOM,etc)
4) Eastern Developers (Square, Konami, Namco, etc)
5) Probably the most broad overall support including all developers

Revolution Pros
--------------------------------
1) Nintendo's franchises (Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, etc)
2) Some unique hardware / functionality
3) Could be more powerful than Xbox

I'll be doing MS and Sony next gen, as opposed to MS and Nintendo this gen.

Depends what launches with it if I buy it or not at launch.

Hmm, I can't believe I haven't posted in this thread yet. I thought I did. Anyway, sure I'm getting the new Xbox. This gen after I bought my Xbox I bought a GC and sold it as it did nothing for me. The console and the games are great if that's what you like, just not my bag (though F-Zero in progressive is hot). I then bought a PS2 based on the hype about it's library. Yea sure it's huge and it has alot of good unique games but they are not all my type. The PS2 gets about 25% of my time.

Sure enough I came back to the Xbox and realized why it's such a really good console. It's funny but for the same reason I bought it at launch is the same reason it took back the majority of my gaming hours. Framerates, PC centric library, graphics, better multiplatform experience and now a great XBL experience.

Those reasons I just mentioned; when this beast is released those resaons would multiply many times over. Anyone that is serious about their Xbox is gonna want this. Having the new Xbox will make my gaming so much richer.

learned my lesson this generation.

no point in buying multiple systems if they are gonna just have a couple of different games.

only reason ill buy revolution is because atleast ill be playing something i wont be able to do on ps3. i dont really care about graphics or hard drives or whatever.

Stop the madness, Sonycowboy. This is the real Pro list:

Microsoft
-First to market because first to market always wins.
-No cumbersome built-in hard-drive makes it easier to carry than ever before
-No learning curve because Live and Controller-S will be the same as before
-You can clean out your shelf and throw your old Xbox library in the trash since it won't work in Xenon anyways
-You won't have to needlessly lose sleep over the BlueRay vs. HDDVD battle

Sony
-Tons of accessories available to buy from the get go--like multitaps, memory cards, add-on hard drives, etc.
-You can join in on the Blueray side of the Blueray vs HDDVD debate on countless forum threads and never be bored again
-At E3 events, you too can make ugly powerpoint slides, hold your chest out, and proclaim to be the best at everything, even if your penis is tiny
-Every single game will be released on your console exclusively or ported over and even if its not, you can just say, "that would've sold so much better on PS3 LoL RoFL"

Nintendo
-No matter what they release, it will come as a surprise
-Even if the revolution is not revolutionary, you can join in with Nintendo management and pretend it is anyway
-You can just copy and paste your dissertation on "Why the marketplace can sustain 3 consoles" that you wrote for this generation
-You can buy at least a dozen more new games with Mario in them because all the previously released games with Mario in them, your Mario underwear, and your Mario toothpaste just aren't enough.
-You confidently look in the mirror and say, "I am fun to be with. Because I'm good enough, I'm smart enough and doggone it, people like me."

On launch day? Not likely.

Eventually, sure, especially if MS gets all spendy and decides to snap up exclusivity on titles from developers i like.

Hell yeah I will get on one launch day, Xbox blew away the competition this generation despite the fact they got the latest start. I almost exclusively play Xbox these days while my cube gathers dust and I only play the occasional rental on my PS2. Bring on Half Life 2 deluxe edition!! Can't wait!!

Why is Xbox one compatibilty so important for most of you?

so i can get rid of the giant monstrosity that is the xbox console, and still be able to play my favorite xbox games or the huge backlog of games i have..

I'm in the "wait and see" corner right now. The main reason I didn't get an Xbox this gen was mainly because most games I liked on it came out for PC or other systems. I just couldn't justify buying the hardware for a few admittedly awesome titles. Also, to be quite honest I'm getting extremely tired of FPS and war games which seem to be popular on Microsofts machine. I'm hoping they get more diverse with their line up this time around and have some
truely amazing software other then Halo (which didnt appeal to me) and a few other gems..

Dunno yet - No reason to make a decision now anyway. I'll wait until MS is willing to actually talk about what the Xbox successor will officially be, before I start to make up my mind about it. Also, by the time Xb2 launch window is in sight, I'd expect we'll have also heard more official info about what Nintendo and Sony are planning for next gen. I'm eager to see the start of next gen, but I don't think I'm going to be on board to support all of the consoles this time - just don't have the time for it and it hasn't made my gaming time any more satisfying to see all of the games I still haven't finished strewn across multiple consoles rather than one. Maybe I cut down to two consoles next gen. We'll see.

I got my cube while I was living in Japan, before the Xbox shipped. And it gathering dust is not a joke, it sits in the corner, and because I absolutely NEVER play it, it actually has a nice buildup of dust on top of it. My wife started playing through the N64 remake of Zelda on the cube and I had to wipe the dust off. Ha ha! Go Nintendo!

I'm planning to buy the most popular console next-gen just as i bought a PS2 this gen. The only thing really important is the library of games potential. It's directly related to the popularity of the console itself.
If it's Xenon taking the lead, it's mine. If it's PS3, i'll buy PS3 instead.

because my Xbox is on life support right now. It still plays games, but i get a few stutters every now and then, the sound on some games skips, and i get a DRE every once in a while. I put off buying a new one beceause Xbox2 is due this year, so im waiting (and hoping) until the backwards compatability thing is settled. To be honest though, its not a deal breaker.

Hey Che, you might find this thread entertaining :D

The Che/Chespace thing won't ever be over, at least it provides some good laughs from times to times.

As for Xbox 2, it will be day 1 for me. Even there is a worldwide launch as expected, then I'll get a PAL one. Otherwise I may very well get a plane to New York and go Times Square to get one on launch day in the US. I also plan to get a PS3 on day one if Sony delivers (and with Nvidia on board, I don't have much doubts)
