Great Britain is the main island consisting of three countries, England, Scotland & Wales.

The United Kingdom also includes Northern Ireland.

Fuck's sake.

Great Britain = England, Scotland and Wales
United Kingdom = England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland

Murray is now British. Had he lost, he'd have been Scottish.

Scotland within Britain is basically the equivalent of a US state within the usa

not exactly. It has its own currency, law, government etc. There's nothing exactly like the way the United Kingdom works. More like a tiny, rainy EU. And it is seeking full independence now- which Murray's victory may irrationally affect.

Well done Andy Murray!

My mum screamed herself hoarse at the TV lol

And LOL at the people questioning whether Scottish=British

Northern Ireland is part of the UK not GB.
Actually the term Britain can also refer to the United Kingdom, as the full name is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. However you're right that including Ireland it is generally referred to as the UK :)

Just because people use it doesn't mean it is right.

GB does not include NI.

No, it's the UK of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Great Britain is separate, and just the one island.

us states have their own law and government and scotland doesn't have its own currency it just has bank notes issued by scottish banks (english banks are allowed to but dont bother)
