Steffi won a Grand Slam. Serena never did. And Venus isn't in the league of either of those two.

heavenly said:yes she did, but just not in the traditional way.
SolidSnakex said:That's why its referred to as the Serena Slam. If you went by that then Steffi actually has 2 Grand Slams.
heavenly said:So, Steffi won 1 Grand Slam the traditional way and also won 4 major titles consecutively? What year(s) did that occur, and starting w/ which major title?
heavenly said:Thanks.
I think Serena/Venus are still players to be reckon with. They probably lost their first love along the way since competition was nothing to them, but since most of the players has caught up to them, it's time to buckle down and start playing great again.

Prime vs prime, Serena slays Steffi. That's just a fact. And the argument could be made that Graf wasn't even the best female player of her era, but won the most titles simply due to circumstance. Prior to Seles getting stabbed, she was clearly the best female player in the world.
And quit this horseshit about a player never being able to return to form...like I said earlier in the thread, both Venus and Lindsay Davenport were written the fuck off by all the experts, yet there they were on Saturday putting on possibly the best women's match since the turn of the century. Who's to say that Serena couldn't get back to her dominant form? People always love to be the first to say someone is done, but they're MIA when it gets thrown back in their face.

I'm going to say it again...both Venus and Lindsay were written off two or three years ago (hell, further back in Lindsay's case), yet they both shared center stage on Saturday. Hell, Lindsay was on the verge of retirement. Serena I think is only 24...young enough to put together a good two year streak similar to the one she had a few years ago. That's not to say it will happen mind you, but I think writing that possibility off is foolhardy.
