I think I'm boned. I did a clean install. Seems I can't activate now.
I guess I should have upgraded THEN done a clean install, eh? That makes my Win 8.1 key work?
Yes upgrade first then clean install.

I installed Windows 8 on a PC today, and it hasn't received the "Reserve Windows 10" app. :\
Posting this again since no one replied. My driver is "Microphone (IDT High Definition Audio CODEC) Version 10.0.10240.16384, and it works perfectly fine in Voice Recorder. Cortana does nothing, "Learn My Voice" just beeps and then nothing happens, and if I go to Settings->Time & Language -> Speech -> Microphone -> Get Started , I get stuck on this image. Nothing I say does anything here, but I know the microphone is working since it works in Voice Recorder!

Any ideas?

Blarg. So I have to reinstall 8, upgrade to 10, then clean install 10. Dang.
They install pretty fast, but I spent an hour setting up 10 after it installed. I'll just use it unactivated for now.
I don't know if this has been talked about already (there's a lot of pages to go through), but I'd avoid hitting "Express Settings". Everything that's turned on by default seems kinda...gross.
These aren't my pictures, but the official release is very similar to these. Sorry if it's already been discussed.

Weird. I got the media tool to boot up properly, but when I get past the preparation stage, it only gives me the option to delete all of my apps and keep only personal settings/files. It says it's because my language is different from the one I'm trying to install.
I have Japanese windows, but I'm download the tool from the Japanese link (https://www.microsoft.com/ja-jp/software-download/windows10) and everything is appearing in Japanese...
This kind of sucks.
IMPORTANT NOTE IF YOU ARE SEEING THIS
DO NOT go and wipe your download folder. While that may work for some people, it doesn't work for everyone, as the upgrade process is complex with a ton of different phases and multiple reasons why it may or may not work.
You'll likely end up causing more problems than you solve.
INSTEAD
Follow the instructions here:
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...0/d695e827-9774-4e10-8972-df8d51a7bb51?auth=1
By doing this, not only are you avoiding re-downloading the entire thing with the Media Creation Tool, but you are also avoiding a lot of potential headaches.
The error code does not mean that there was a problem with the download. It simply means that you weren't eligible to install it yet.
Thinks are actually going really well! Just been super busy is all![]()

Does hiding the search bar in the taskbar disable all things search/cortana related? Or do I need to delve deeper to turn it off 100%?

Did they move the panel to control what icons appear in your notification area?
edit: this thing--any idea where it went?

I'm sorry but I had to laugh, the last thing MS has is a great design team, it's a fucking mess. It's truly a bunch of ideas thrown together without much care for consistency. Incorrect padding, ui menu overlappings, weird use of colors, icons in many different styles, etc..
Interesting issue... I've hit a "device limit" after installing Windows 10 on my tablet. I have two devices - my PC and my tablet. As a result, unless I delete my PC (the first device) from my profile, which will prevent me using the Windows store on it, I can't use any apps on my tablet.
O_O
FYI - the Microsoft Answer Tech I chatted to suggested I roll back my tablet and install again. Not sure how that would help, but what the hell. I'll report back with my findings...
Unsurprisingly, this made no difference.
Settings>system>notfiications and actions
I just wish there was some way to get rid of the "hidden" notifications. I don't want shit like Windows Defender and OneDrive even in the little pop-up notification list.
I'm in the exact same boat. I'm stuck on the product key part for my laptop (which is running Windows 7), and it's telling me my product key ain't working.Ok, so I downloaded Windows 10 Home thru the tool, had it make a bootable USB drive again, but now when I try to upgrade it wants a product key!
My laptop came with Windows 8 Single Language OEM, was I supposed to have gotten Windows 10 Single Language after all? Grrrr
No, you can still type from the start menu and it will use Cortana or search depending on the context.
It's supposed to offer to upgrade if the versions match, like Windows 7 Pro to 10 Pro. It shouldn't ask for a key as far as I know.I'm in the exact same boat. I'm stuck on the product key part for my laptop (which is running Windows 7), and it's telling me my product key ain't working.
Are there any fixes for this?
Is there a way to make things darker? These white windows are killing me.
Windows+Tab
Settings > Personalization > Colors. But it's a bit more restrictive than I'd like.
Nope and it fucking sucks. There are ways to change the title bar colors, but I don't think any solutions allow you to change the text color or to pick different colors for focused windows vs unfocused windows:

Try choosing "Skip This" and complete the install.I'm in the exact same boat. I'm stuck on the product key part for my laptop (which is running Windows 7), and it's telling me my product key ain't working.

For title bars, I'd really just like a slightly darker gray, like 8.1 had. It's just too much.
Cortana wasn't hearing me at first. I use a piece of software called voicemeeter. It uses different inputs and outputs in Windows audio panel. Mine wasn't set properly after the upgrade. Make sure you set your default communications devices properly for your recording device.
In my case it doesn't even give me the skip option if I run the upgrade from within Windows 8.1. So now I'm booted to the USB drive, which does show skip.Try choosing "Skip This" and complete the install.
I just finished an upgrade on my laptop from win7. It went like this; I upgrade win7 to 10. (Created windows account) Then I installed a new ssd and used the 10 install DVD I made. It asked for product key a couple times but I chose to skip. Once I logged in with the account I created during the first install it seemed to sync up and showed windows being 'active'.
"Working on it" (Waits forever.)
What's going on?
"Something happened and we couldn't make your copy of Windows genuine".
That sounds promising.
