That can't be right...right? lol. That sounds crazy.

Try starting it outside of the Start Menu/Taskbar.

MicrosoftEdge.exe is located in C:\Windows\SystemApps\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe

Nothing happens when you run it. It seems like the whole folder works as the "process" when it's running.

Question: Is it possible to upgrade from Windows 7 32-Bit to Windows 10 64-Bit?

I don't think so, at least not easily.

You MIGHT be able to do an upgrade to Win10 32bit (to get it registered to your hardware), then do a clean (format) install and install the 64 bit version. No idea if it'll activate though.

I think im gonna go for a complele clean install.

Any methods besides the "Reset" PC or is that one fine?

I did a reset one and it's fine. You can do that, or you can follow this guide (from "For the Free Upgrade..." onwards) if you want a complete clean install. In short: you have to upgrade to W10 first, then activate W10 (something usually done almost instantaneously) and THEN perform a reset or a clean install using the Media Creation Tool.

That's what I did. Media Creation Tool made a perfectly working w10 bootable flash drive and did the clean install from there no problems.

Just really don't forget to upgrade to w10 beforehand so that it gets verified on your machine as valid. Clean install from there is smooth sailing

I suddenly can't connect to any of my Microsoft accounts. (i.e. Hotmail, account settings, Windows Update).

When I use the mail app, it states "Your Outlook settings are out-of-date." then I have the option to "fix account" or "dismiss". Selecting Fix results in a long waiting time followed by an error that it failed.

If I launch Windows Update, it infinitely sits in the loading screen with the moving dots across the screen. I can't even log into my account on Microsoft.com. WTF? Everything else works fine....

System Restore to a few days ago did the trick...hope that doesn't happen again. Ugh.

Hey, a little tip for anyone whose search function on the start menu isn't working. Go to run, type msconfig, then hit enter.

Select services, select the check box that says hide all windows services, now choose disable all.

Go to the general tab and uncheck load startup items. Hit apply, restart your PC, and then when you come back on the search function should now work as expected, where it appropriately finds any apps you have installed, and whatever else may be on the PC.

Obviously if this fixed your issue it means that one of the disabled services is the culprit, and either needs to be removed from your PC altogether, or reinstalled.

Gotta love Microsoft's support articles on their updates:
KB3081436 said:
The security update for Windows 10 that is dated August 11, 2015, includes improvements to improve the functionality of Windows 10 and resolves the following vulnerabilities in Windows

So is it normal for services.exe / Services and Controller app to constantly have a load on the CPU? Its not much, but just opening task manager, and basically leaving the machine alone, the load is always at least 10%, and the CPU is always at the max. ghz, always at 2.7-2.9 ghz. Just idling, and still at 2.7-2.9 ghz all the time.

Mostly notice this as an issue as my CPU fan gets louder much quicker than on 8.1 and stays a little bit louder even when not doing anything.

edit: nvm, for whatever reason I had minimum processing power at 100% instead of 5%

Its probably been asked a thousand times but I'm trying to install and it either gets stuck on working when I try to install from the taskbar or gets stuck on preparing to install when I do it from the control panel. Any suggestions? I'm a tech noob so any help is appreciated.

So I wanted to change a setting in BIOS and hard shut down my laptop when Windows was loading. After I changed that setting, my computer started freezing up on the desktop 10 seconds after starting. I went to BIOS, reset all settings to default, but then the same thing happened.

I ended up restoring to a previous date. Now, Windows has become deactivated. I try to activate using the Windows 10 key that I saved after my initial upgrade from 7 but it says that the key is blocked.

If I were to remove the device from my Microsoft account, would it get unblocked so I can reactivate with the key?

no, that is the same key everyone has. you probably need to reenable whatever hardware you disabled (or vice versa) in the BIOS and reset agaiin

Anyone else experiencing the Windows Store crashing? I'll go into the store, can use it for a bit and then it just shut downs for no reason?

Also the Weather App live tile never works for me, it just stays the same icon, no live updates or actual weather view

so, anyone else having audio stutters with youtube/netflix etc. with the Chrome browser in Windows 10?

and Edge sure is still rough around the edges what with no add-on support etc.

Woke up today and my clock and icons in the taskbar are missing. Searched a little but haven't found a solution. Anyone else run into this problem?

Does anyone else get slow log off and restart due to 'Program Manager' not closing. I cant even find this process running and Google has not helped me on this one.

After using the ancient Photoshop 7 for many years and leaving my disc behind in America, I've decided to go ahead and download CS2. But when I attempt to run the program, as soon as it opens, it tells me it's stopped working and it's just a white screen. I've tried compatibility settings but nothing seems to work. I kind of need this for a project I need to work on.

Anyone have any ideas of why this might happen?

Edit:

Apparently, ...

Photoshop versions after 6.0 (including 7.0, CS, CS2 ...CS6):

A:If a tool is behaving erratically, first try resetting just that tools preferences, via the method outlined by Len Hewitt in the post below this one.

If you have larger troubles, hold down Alt, Ctrl, and Shift keys (Mac: Command, Option, Shift) while starting up Photoshop. A dialog box will appear asking if you wish to delete the preferences/settings file.

If I hold down alt ctrl shift it opens. Deleting the preferences file doesn't seem to do anything though.

The newest Photoshop CC is actually really worth trying; you can have multiple layer effects of the same type per layer, which automatically puts it at the top for me.

OK so I finally got the go-ahead from that stupid icon that's been sitting in my taskbar for the past month. I can upgrade. I think I want to do a clean install, but what's the best way to go about that? Just like make a note of the programs I use and will need to re-download, then back up any data like pictures/music/movies I want to keep on an external drive? I need to do something with drivers, right?

How is the newest nvidia driver?

did a manual clean install of the driver, one thing i noticed was that apparently auto installed windows10 version didn't install physx on my machine.

but so far it works great, haven't noticed anything in the games i play (only tested on my laptop 765m)

Firefox 40 also resolved some browser related issues

Why are there checkmarks on all my shortcuts now??

anyone with an MSI GT series gaming laptop had issues with Windows 10? i installed yesterday (after ridiculous amounts of forcing it to work, hampered by AVG corrupting during an update at the same time) and it killed the KLM keyboard light manager/steel series keyboard back light!
I managed to reinstall the KLM which seems to have solved it, but the backlight is now defaulted to off when i switch it on, which i can't find any way to flip

are there any other issues i should be aware of?

also where has the start menu sub menu gon from editing the task bar? i wanted to add lock and hibernate to the power button and remove sleep, but its gone and i can't find any option to alter this now

Looks like a Norton 360 thing.. kill it with fire

...or Norton -> Settings -> Backup Settings -> Backup Status Overlays -> OFF -> Apply.. (icon check-marks will be removed next time Norton runs its scheduled routine thingy, so can take some time unless you trigger it manually)

Norton uses the exact same checkmarks as OneDrive? That's weird.

Open a Run prompt and type in "netplwiz". Then uncheck the box at the top. That'll get rid of the username and password prompt, if that's what you're referring to.

just did that. but i still gotta put a PIN or password to get to my desktop after reboot =/

So im having really slow download speeds with torrents since windows 10. All my settings are correct, and when i use bandwith test i get my max speed. Is this a thing? or just bad luck?

Plug and play (over USB?) seems to be broken on my system. It doesn't find new hardware anymore (USB drive, SATA USB adapter). Searching for new hardware via Device Manager ends in a loop and nothing happens (until it crashes, if I click too much). That's definitely new to me.

I have a huge problem with my Bluetooth speaker. While I have to admit Windows 10 has made connecting to Bluetooth devices easier, there's another error which makes my speaker completely unusable.

There's a huge delay. I can't watch any videos because the audio will be out of sync. When I, for example, click the play icon of a YT video, the sound will start after the video and stay behind the entire time.

My speaker is a (Logitech) Ultimate Ears Mini Boom by the way.

Is anyone having issues with mouse acceleration in games? I have mouse acceleration off and the MarkC fix installed but mouse movement still feels off in Dying Light, whereas my first playthrough was perfect with no such issues on Windows 7.

If I sign into the Xbox App will that make my offline account linked to my Microsoft account? I'm trying to keep it offline but want to use the functionality of the app.

I guess I'll post this in the general thread, too.

edit: the answer is no.

Has anyone run in to any issues with Win10 and Kaspersky? Been having some BSOD's and all the dmp logs look like they are pointing to a Kaspersky driver. Uninstalled my 2015 version and got 2016 and now its disabling my ethernet adapter on any startup. Enabled it and boom BSOD again. Guessing its just Kaspersky not being ready for Win10, but I was wondering if anyone had experienced this as well.
