Chrome scrolling is so slow and even hangs completely for me. Brand new powerful laptop. I try the same pages with Edge and scrolling sites is smooth as silk.

Are Chrome issues common? Any fix? I'd make the switch to edge but need my last pass extension.

If anyone's having problem with logitech keyboards volume scroll causing bleebs and screen flickering, this fixed it for me:

Guys I think I have a partial fix, or at least my volume control is working properly now.

For about 5 seconds rapidly scroll your volume control up and down (Your screen will flash like mad but keep doing it, dont stop).

After 5 seconds are up stop scrolling the volume control and wait for all the beeping to stop and for the volume control dialogue to disappear. Now your volume control should work like normal (Mine did, even after restarting my PC a couple of times).

Let me know if it works for any of you.

Reasoning: I think this process causes windows to suspend whatever is causing the issue, if you check event viewer you can see a bunch of information notifications from the scrolling issue.

Credit to Colin over on the windows site for originally mentioning this method (second post from the bottom): http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...triggers/e2977765-49e5-4525-88d2-83194dce879f

Edit: Using the latest update from logitech (7th July. version 8.70.315)

R9 290X GPU driver: 15.200.1062.1003

Realtek driver: 6.0.1.7535

Edit 2: The fix held for 5 restarts then I had to do it again.

Chrome is nice and smooth when scrolling for me, got about 20 extensions running as well. I replaced Adblock with Ublock Origin when I upgraded from 8.1 to 10 but apart from that my settings/performance are the same as they were in 8.1

Edit: Do you have hardware acceleration enabled in advanced settings?

I'm running version 46.0.2478.0 dev-m (64-bit) if that makes any difference.

My laptop is taking absolutely ages to start up after upgrading to W10. I get a black screen for ages and ages before Windows finally loads. Anyone have this or know how to sort it?

I had it turned off because I read somewhere it may actually help. I turned it back on now and it has helped a very very small bit but nowhere near acceptable for me or close to Edge performance. I am on Chrome version 44.0.2403.155 m.

funny i have scrolling issues in edge(if a video or some animation is running on the page), but Firefox 40+ is smooth (on laptop 765m/intel combo)

I have a huge problem with my Bluetooth speaker. While I have to admit Windows 10 has made connecting to Bluetooth devices easier, there's another error which makes my speaker completely unusable.

There's a huge delay. I can't watch any videos because the audio will be out of sync. When I, for example, click the play icon of a YT video, the sound will start after the video and stay behind the entire time.

My speaker is a (Logitech) Ultimate Ears Mini Boom by the way.

I'm having similar problems with bluetooth speakers as well. Everything works fine paired with my phone and chromebook, but W10 desktop is a mess.

If you just upgraded without doing a fresh install, did you uninstall any old bluetooth stacks? Had to install 3rd party ones in 8.1, but 10 has it's own stuff.

If not, it's likely drivers are needed for the new stack.

What is Microsoft's trend with 10 not to detail the update/patch notes?

They haven't detailed a single one yet just, pretty sure every Windows 7 (I never used 8 so not sure) had proper details of what the update fixed.

Here is a zip file with all the windows audio files reduced by -10db. I thought the default sounds were kind of loud so I reduced the volume. It helps. Honestly, I probably could have went further but I will test this out for now. I also included the original files in case you lose them or something. This is how I changed them:

  1. Copied the (-10db) folder into Windows>Media> (but you can place it anywhere you want)
  2. Right click on the speaker icon on the taskbar and select "Sounds"
  3. In the popup at the bottom in the window, select each action and change the file by selecting browse and pointing to the new folder you posted in Windows>Media. Pay attention to the name of the default sound file name before you click browse because the new files have the same names so you can easily find the one you want.
There's probably an easier way but I got in trouble the last time I messed with ownership in a Windows folder so this seems like the least risky way. This method took me all of 5 minutes to change.

I'm sure my issue is not Windows 10 only but it's annoying. My laptop sometimes wakes up from hibernation without me doing anything, the laptop is closed and it just wakes up. Usually in the night.

Can I fix this so that it doesn't wake up and stays off?

I am cleaning my machine to do a complete reinstall of Windows 10. I created the ISO, so do I just reboot from CD and go at it with that CD?

same thing happened to me with my desktop. Thankfully I had it set up to go to sleep after 30 minutes (could've been 15... oh well) of inactivity, so it wasn't that big of a deal.

The culprit was the Automatic Maintenance. Go to Control Panel > System and Security > Security and Maintenance and change the maintenance settings (specifically, uncheck the box that allows it to wake the PC to run the maintenance). Hope that helps!

Thanks for the reply. I already had that option unchecked, kinda weird it still booted up.

After a clean install which for some reason failed to activate, I had to set my laptop back to stock Windows 8. Can I upgrade to 10 directly from Windows 8, or do I need to upgrade to 8.1 first?

Man, standard 8 really is horrendous. Glad I still have my W10 desktop right now. :lol

you can try entering "powercfg -lastwake" in an elevated command prompt and "powercfg -devicequery wake_armed" to see which devices woke up the PC.

If that fails, maybe go to the Event Viewer and check the time in which your PC woke up to see if something happened there. For example, when my PC woke up by itself the other day, the Event Viewer said: "Wake Source: Unknown, but possibily due to timer - Windows will execute 'NT TASK\Microsoft\Windows\UpdateOrchestrator\Reboot' scheduled task that requested waking the computer."

According to this and this, you can... but I'm actually not sure. I've seen some people suggest that you HAVE to be on 8.1 first.

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /source:WIM:X:\Sources\Install.wim:1 /LimitAccess

(Substitute X with the drive letter to the one which your system has mounted the ISO to)
Very late reply, but I tried this just now and even that doesn't work. With an error message that makes absolutely no sense. "Error: 0x800f081f, could not find source files" (or something, it's in German).

The source exists, so I don't really know what the problem is (and yes, I substituted "X" ;))

Any more ideas? Thanks anyway for all the ideas!

Ahh this thread was a good idea.

So i upgraded to windows 10, and the wifi icon is nowhere to be found. I have no idea where it is. Looked in network and and everything. Plugged in my usb grabber no drivers installing messages came up.

So is this some bug or is there something I need to do?

My laptop is taking absolutely ages to start up after upgrading to W10. I get a black screen for ages and ages before Windows finally loads. Anyone have this or know how to sort it?

I disabled some 3rd party services via msconfig and went to task manager and disabled some start up stuff except anti-virus. It sped things up a bit, but my start up isn't 6 secs or whatever a lot people who have SSDs are getting. More like 15 or so and another 5 or so for log-in screen become responsive.

Edit: In event viewer the range for boot was 24-98 secs for August before I did all that. Doesn't seem like there's much more I can do on my end.

Does anyone know how to select text with the touchscreen on Edge? It's annoying me.

Edge is such a huge step back from IE metro in terms of touch controls.

Edit: Figured it out, you tap on the word you wanna select. Now just need to figure out how to remove bookmarks.

Anyone have an idea on how to reduce the system tray icon sizes? I don't mean the icon image but the click/touch targets.

My Windows 10 system tray looks like http://puu.sh/jB7xz/a2efac640e.png for both large or small taskbar icons. The spacing between systray icons are larger than in previous versions of Windows.

Nearly everyone's screenshots of W10 have systrays that are more like https://i.imgur.com/9BWDddU.jpg

How do I go about changing this? I normally use a vertical taskbar and this http://puu.sh/jB7BD/9b856ff94d.png is driving me nuts.

My DPI's at 100%, and the presence of Cortana and the Task View button don't seem to matter. Tablet mode is disabled (I don't have a touchscreen).

I have a new problem with my apps: when I hit the start button on my desktop, the app bar opens on the top left for a split second and then vanishes. When I click it again, it opens like normal, but none of the apps will work. Some shut off immediately (like the Xbox app) and others say it can't connect to the internet (Twitter, Facebook). The Cortana bar (ask me anything) will also not work.

Also on my Windows Update screen it says: There were some problems installing updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: (0x80070422)

Please help me. I've tried Googling for a solution but nothing works.

Edit: Fixed, thank God. I used a batch file in one of the Googled fixes. Everything seems to be working now.

Did you make and mount a windows 10 iso?

Having a problem getting the USB installation started. By which I mean the software I got here to create the installation media won't create it. I tried USB, I tried ISO, neither one works. I select the USB flash drive, click "next", and it just sits there and circles for about five minutes and then quits with no error given. I select the ISO, pick the folder I want it to create in, and the same happens. Should I be in safe mode or something?

Any tips on settings to restore the Surface Pro 3 with Windows 10 to the battery life of 8.1?

I do like a lot of things about Windows 10 but I'm going to focus on what's bothering me.

Why when using the pen does it default to the handwriting keyboard?
How/if can you change it?
Surface Pro 3 gets hotter way faster than it ever did.
Hibernation Mode uses more power than before.
I thought we were getting the swipe keyboard from Windows Phone?
Why doesn't the virtual keyboard come up automatically when not in Tablet mode?
What is that hitch/delay when unlocking and getting ready to input your picture password. Windows 8.1 didn't have this.
Why doesn't Edge have a way to sort favorites alphabetical? Hell anyway to bulk sort?
OneDrive integration... My god it's terrible. This needs a massive overhaul or the ability to change functionality back to how it was. As it is now it's unusable.

Does anyone know if this works with the Sony Vaio pro? It's a 2014 model.

I want to use the iso but I haven't read anything about Vaio pro users.

Not sure with the 2014 but I upgraded my wife's 2012 Vaio and everything is working perfectly and faster too. Even the Vaio bloatwares such as Vaio Gate are working.

You used the iso right? Since I updated everything and the windows 10 app still didn't show.

I'm guessing we are waiting for firmware patches to fix the power issues... To bring the type keyboard up instead of writing, touch the input location with your finger instead of pen tip...

In settings under keyboard (I think) you can set keyboard ro come up on touch even when not in tablet mode.

Where is the surface thread?
Thx

Did you make and mount a windows 10 iso?
Yes, it's mounted as "F:" in my case, so what I'm doing is

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /source:WIM:F:\Sources\Install.wim:1 /LimitAccess

That does stuff for a while and then says it can't find the source files. It's actually the same as without the ISO.

To make sure I'm not going mad I actually typed the path to install.wim into the command prompt, *that* does work.

Here, I even made a screenshot showing both:

cmdjhjtb.png

EDIT: I'm also pretty sure I selected the correct version of Windows 10 in the Media Creation Tool (Win Pro 64 bit in German).

Yeah, even the "details" sections of the updates literally say nothing.

What happens specifically with your explorer does it crash when you try to open it or does it cras on compuer start up, any error messages?

A utility called mactype that I was using on windows 8 makes my explorer crash you are not using it by any chance?

What happens specifically with your explorer does it crash when you try to open it or does it cras on compuer start up, any error messages?
It crashes on some folders upon opening them. E.g., my "Music" library (consisting of two folders) makes it crash, but only one of the folders on its own (the other opens just fine). The "Documents" library with a similiar structure, however, opens without problems. It isn't dependent on the hard drive, because some folders open on both of them. I tried deleting all thumbnails, but that didn't work either.

What happens is quite simple: The explorer window closes, explorer crashes and is restarted. No error messages. Works fine on startup.

Nope, not using that here.

Nope, not using that here.

My explorer does that where It would open a certain folder and it pops up the closes on it's own and reopens sometimes crashing and restarting explorer. At first I thought it was clover the explorer replacer but nope vanilla explorer does that too :/

Edit

My roommate uses the same computer, he doesn't have any of the explorer issues though, you could try making a new windows account and see if you have any issues with explorer.

Dunno how to reduce it, but I noticed my tray icons looking like on your second pic when I did a clean install, but became like your first pic when I installed touchmote (Wii-Remote drivers kinda) which added the virtual keyboard tray icon. After removing the virtual keyboard trac icon they still were that far away. I'm stuck with them being a bit far away now, weird behaviour indeed.

Is there any way to get DTS connect to work? I can get stereo working over optical, but as soon as I go into the realtek software to enable DTS connect all my audio just routes through my PC speakers rather than the optical out even though it still says its outputting though the digital out.

I have the same problem.

Really irritating that i can´t play games in surround sound :(

It´s a issue with the OS and not the drivers.

MS needs to get their shit together.

Got two blue screen of deaths today all while using Chrome. I am ready to leave Chrome behind ASAP for Edge. I just need that extension support.

I hope to switch to Edge soon too when it starts to support extensions. I've been using Pale Moon for a while because Firefox kept crashing when I was on win8 and Chrome didn't have mouse wheel tilt horizontal scrolling. The only problem with Edge is that it has that awful stigma of being a Microsoft web browser.

After the upgrade my Realtek sound card won't output 5.1 surround. The back two speakers won't output sound. But in quad mode they do. So I know it's not the connections. I manually upgraded the drivers and still nothing.

Well I'm pulling my hair out. I have an AMD HD 5000M series and the driver situation is fucked. Reading about this, and how Windows update is double installing drivers all over the place and I'm just pissed. Now my laptop that I use for watching shit on the TV through HDMI is useless since it refuses to connect to projectors.
