i think it`s a year and even a month would make it free... that doesnt make it a trial
The window to upgrade for free is limited, not the OS itself.
So.... is it free or not? Is it free to those that already own W7 and W8?
Is the upgrade really free?
Yes, it’s free. This is a full version of Windows, not a trial or introductory version. It is available for a limited time: you have one year from the time Windows 10 is available to take advantage of this offer.
From what I read do you have one year to upgrade. When you upgrade you get the complete windows 10 foreverSo.... is it free or not? Is it free to those that already own W7 and W8?

If you upgrade within the first year - it's free.
However, it's still unclear what will happen if you will want to format and do a clean install: whether you will have to go Win7/8 -> update to Win10 route again, or will you be able to use your Win7/8 key to install Win10 right away.
Or if the version you get is based on your current version.

Yeah im pretty sure they said pro users go to pro, home to home, etc
havent got the update coming through for notifications checked all day. dont have the gwx folder either. im in uk running windows 7 home premium.
Are you up to date with Windows Updates? One of the recent updates was specifically for this. If you skipped that update I'm guessing that's a reason why some people aren't getting the notification. (I'm UK too and woke up to the notification).havent got the update coming through for notifications checked all day. dont have the gwx folder either. im in uk running windows 7 home premium.
Remove the relevant windows update that allowed the notification, restart - it's gone.Any idea how to get rid of the upgrade icon? I've already reserved my upgrade, so its job is done.
I've done that I got a Success but still no icon sadly.I had to create a cmd and run as admin, that forced the windows logo to appear.

you cant upgrade from technical preview.
The background: On December 5, someone asked Microsoft's Gabe Aul—he's emerged as the face of the Windows Technical Preview—whether testers would be "able to update to the RTM version [of Windows 10] when it ships? Mr. Aul responded in the affirmative: "Yes, that is our intent."
i need the update in windows update first which still isnt showing up ):
Strange, worked for me.
You run as administrator?
Remove the relevant windows update that allowed the notification, restart - it's gone.
Update to remove is: KB3035583 - Google it, there are loads of pages talking about it.
im pretty sure you got till July 2016 to upgrade for free
You only have until July 29, 2016 to take advantage of this offer. Once you upgrade, you have Windows 10 for free on that device.

any idea if they're going to give us the chance of clean installing or is it upgrade only?
Windows 10 being free is a marketing expense. Why do you have to reserve an upgrade? Are they going to run out or something?
I'm using windows 7, I think its OEM version. Didn't get any offer.
You can use an 8.1 ISO install with vanilla 8 keys now. Just do that.shit i just realized u need windows 8.1
ive tried to install it like 5x and it keeps crashing and going back to windows 8 , i havent tried in like 6 months now but blah...i guess i gotta finally get that working.
oh man that project cars video makes me really need to do this , thats like a 30 fps improvement just with the os , wow!
How do I get rid of the icon from my system tray after reserving?
So what's the point of reserving? I mean, you have a full year to upgrade and it's not like they're going to run out of keys..
