Cool I just got that reservation notification as well.

They're actually using that terminology?

They're letting you "reserve" your copy?

Like they're going to run out of downloads?

Why don't they just say "Get ready to upgrade" or "Be the first to upgrade"?

Ugh.

Ugh.

It's a simple ploy to accelerate adoption, that's all.

I got the notification a few minutes ago! I'm not sure if I should upgrade, though. I have Windows 7 64-bit, and software that works with it (like Sony Movie Studio). If I upgraded, would my software still work without problems?

According to the upgrading tool there are no Win10 bluetooth drivers available for my motherboard. That's going to suck. 😞

most programs should work without any issues.
the programs that didnt work were easy to fix with compatibility mode and run as admin and that was on an early build so might run fine now without those things.
win10 is a great upgrade the only thing i disliked is the microsoft account thing.

just use the win 7/8.1 drivers

Because they wanted to use a verb. Plus, is it that big of a deal? LOL

On the topic of clean installs, according to Paul Thurrott, when we upgrade there is product key saved to the Windows Store that ties the hardware to the license. So we may need to do an initial update to W10 so our hardware can register to Microsoft servers. Nevertheless, we still don't know if we are going to be able to use an ISO.

That, and it is probably needed for the accounting trick that Microsoft is using for the upgrade.

How do I know if every part of my computer is compatible with Windows 10 ?

I've got a feeling I'm not receiving the notification because my motherboard may be too old (Gigabyte P35 DS4)...

What will happen with those that have a dual boot (win 8.1 and Win 10)?

I hope somehow they will merge all files, but I think I will lose part of it =/

bruh.. as long you got a decent amount ram you can upgrade to Windows 10.

check the minimum system requirements, many windows XP owners can even upgrade to windows 10 technically.

EDIT: use the 8.1 upgrade advisor.. it should be asking for very similar requirements as to what 10 is asking for.

Notification showed up finally. They updated the script in their first post and after letting it run for a few minutes and a restart the icon appeared.

SP3s are getting Windows 10 Pro or Home?

Sp3 what?

Vista, Windows XP?

If you have either of those you have to pay for a copy of Windows 10.

or you could look for a cheap windows 7 key and upgrade from there.

EDIT: MercuryLS says that SP3 is Surface Pro.. and afaik they only sell SP3's with the pro version.. so you will probably be getting pro.

How would I determine what's causing my problems?

I don't think this thread is the right place to start a debugging session, so I'll direct you to Google: this carefully when and how the bugs manifest (what you are doing, and with what, how bug affects things etc), and google it.

For those of us with multiple installations (i.e. laptop, desktop, etc), can you use the same email address when reserving for multiple systems?

Yes. It probably won't ask you again to enter email address as long as you are using same Microsoft account on each machine.

At least they're honest and aren't charging people to beta test for them.

Let's see what they can do in two months.

So I just picked up a SSD that I want to put my OS on. When we get our Win10 upgrade, is it going to be capable of doing a blank install, or is it only going to upgrade over 7/8/8.1? Not really a huge deal, just wondering if I should swap out the HD's now or later.

I don't have the two updates needed, and no matter how many times i check for updates i get nothing.

Are you kidding. New versions of windows always have the latest drivers for common devices. No need to install things such as motherboard drivers. It's all up-to-date.

Hmm.

I installed the technical build on an SSD.

I didn't expect this level of connectivity between my 8.1 HDD install and my SSD Win 10 install.

I run Steam on Win 10 and it completely recognizes my username and password and just logs me in.

Not sure this is the best way to do things with the RTM when it's available.

Ultra serious question for those using the current beta build

Can you turn that Cortina or whatever its name is off? Having a MASSIVE search bar right next to the start button will piss me off so much

Just a head's up for anyone who is having trouble with getting the reserve.
i had to install the IE11 update before it gave me the win10 update.

Decided to click reserve on the icon, W8 was so repulsive I stopped regularly checking up on what MS was doing, but looking at some vidoes W10 doesn't look so bad, I even want to try out the technical preview to see if I can use it just like 7 without a the OS getting in my way.

Thanks, look like I'll upgrade to Windows 10!

Huh, ran windows update last night and apparently have the update in question, but don't have the notification. Running an OEM copy of Win7 bought from Newegg.

Trying that script now for shucks.

it's installing mysterious apps and flashing colors in my face I hate it already

Edit: it fucked up my drivers. Nice.
