Thanks. Yeah part of me wants to fire one of them up in a VM just to tinker around a bit since I never messed with the betas. And it would seem that I'd be linking a 10 product key to my account, but then again it might just create headaches later when I try to actually use them. It sounds like it's going to suck though, for anyone that doesn't keep their hardware static for any length of time. A PC to me is just a set of evolving parts.

Just use the tool to upgrade. Makes me wonder why they even had this process to begin with if there was just an exe we could DL at midnight to run it.

Yeah, I did one of the early insider builds on my boot camp partition on my Mac some months ago, and they had ludicrous long install times back then. Kinda hoped it would bestreamlined more for release, but I guess not. I'm downloading the final version with the tool right now, about to start the upgrade on my gaming rig. Holding my breath....

You can do that once you've upgraded to 10.

Are you able to just reset through the OS settings or is it the typical ISO to boot USB or disc and clean install that way?

I may have answered my own question. I fired up an old 8.1 VM to see which license key I have on there. It's fully updated with every last patch, but the little Windows icon that had urged me to upgrade doesn't even seem to appear. I'm definitely logged into my Microsoft account and such too.

Make sure to run disk cleaner after installing and that should help.

Yep, it even asks if you want to format other drivers or do a full HDD format in case you're recycling the PC and is worried someone might try to access your old data.
