Upgrade to Windows 10?

No they aren't. If you download the windows 8.1 upgrade/installer the windows 8 key didnt work.

If you install Windows 8 you then get an upgrade to Windows 8.1. Considering Microsoft is offering free upgrades to nearly all versions of Windows I don't see why 8 would be any different.

Well this isnt good. Restarted my PC and now the Windows 10 reserve thing just shows this.

I fiddled around a bunch - set updates to automatic, installed all pending updates (and recommended), rebooted a few times, ran the command a few times.Eventually, my Windows 10 logo disappeared. I was worried. Checked Windows Update and it was downloading Windows 10! Success!

Another question: if one uses their 8.1 key to upgrade to 10 and then for whatever reason wanted to go back to 8.1, will that key still work? Maybe that's an obvious yes, I don't know. Just covering all my bases here.

Just got the message about upgrading to Windows 10 but I want to put it in an ISO file so that I can do a clean installation once I upgrade how do I go about doing that

Is 10 available in the UK yet? Does it go live at midnight or at a certain time? It's only 5:42AM here.

Also, can I download the .ISO and use my 8.1 key to do a clean install or do I need to wait for my computer to upgrade to 10 first then do a clean install?

option 1 try to restart your computer and click search for updates
also uninstall steam on your computer
lord gaben said it would interfere
after that poor some milk on you computer it needs breakfast.
and sacrifice a goat.

option 2

just wait it out ..
it's not out here in the netherlands yet. 06:42
OMFG 42!! it all makes sense now!

I did. I have an 8 Pro key and I used 8.1 Pro iso's and installed fine with an 8 key, straight to 8.1.

I did something similar.

I created an 8.1 Pro usb drive.

It wouldn't accept my Windows 8 key to start the install, so I used a generic key I found on Google to initiate the install and then once Windows was installed it accepted my key and activated.

Thanks so much..basically how does it work..it downloads the files and I can create an ISO image to burn to disc? Also do you know what the latest version of windows 10 is because it seems like everyone has a different number mine is 10.0.10240.16384
Yes that is exactly what it does (also gives option to upgrade) not sure on the build as mine is still installing

Actually, you can. They've updated this recently. I have an original 8 upgrade key which I had to install Windows 7, upgrade to 8, and then upgrade to 8.1. When I went to do a fresh reformat about a month ago, the 8.1 installer disc took my key. It used to refuse it.

I tried last night and it didnt work ;-;

So if I want to do a clean install of Windows 10 what's the best way?

I have a windows 8 upgrade key. Not a Windows 8.1 key. Currently on Windows 8.1

Great..I opened up the program and I guess it started downloading some stuff but I canceled it since Im not doing it tonight..I will just burn it to disc since that is what I want to do..once its burned to disc then I can just upgrade it and then do a clean install..yeah I want to make sure on my laptop Im on the most recent version since I have read others have higher than me I have 10.0.10240.16384

Downloaded it

Got halfway through "Preparing installation" and it failed.

Now, it's not even showing that I have a reserved upgrade. :-\

This is also what happened to me. It finished downloading and failed in the "Preparing installation" phase. I did a "Try Again" and it went back to the reservation message. Now I'm going to try it using the exe tool.

Upgrading now and it's 11:55 PM in my time zone (CST). Goodbye forever Windows 8.1!

I seem to be getting the "Upgrade to Windows 10 Home" update but it keeps failing. It's in my update history multiple times and I haven't done anything more than hit the check for updates button.
