Windows 10 Troubleshooting Thread

Used the instructions from MS answers to make an ISO from the downloaded files and just finished the update. Only glitch was my nvidia video card wasn't detected properly on first boot. A quick reboot fixed that.

Getting the ISO as well. Will burn it on a DVDR just to use it on other PCs. I don't have a spare USB right now.

I'll probably upgrade over the weekend.

Woo, got it all installed. It's interesting, but it's making my laptop run a bit hot at the moment.

I'm debating resetting the PC just to clean it up some, but I'm a little worried about it affecting my Office 365 subscription.

Now I noticed there's an ISO option for Windows 10 Home Single Language. My laptop originally came with Windows 8 Single Language, wonder if I should get that or will the regular Home version work...

My CPU was high after I first installed it because the search indexing was all going on. After half an hour or so it settled down.

Does anyone know where I could download a Windows 7/8 icon pack? The default icons for My Computer and Recycle Bin suck (and they're low res?)

I am super annoyed that Microsoft doesn't seem to understand how great the url bar and tabs are at the bottom in table IE for Windows 8.1.

Oh they know.

Initial Windows Mobile 10 builds had the URL at the top and now that's at the bottom.

Edge will be an interesting dev model going forward for the old giant.

Now that windows 10 is installed (i got some weird driver error when it first booted) how do i put it on a thumb drive? I might do a clean format on this ssd cause over the year i guess i had forgot to make some program installed on this because i mash through the install process

I get this when I try to upgrade using the tool.

I had this issue. I just got around it by removing a Ubuntu boot option from the start up. I installed it years ago not sure why it was still there. After it was removed I was able to get past that point.

At 86% upgrading. The thing I think I'll miss most is the metro IE. I really like swiping to go back a page and the address bar on the bottom.

left all three computers on overnight.

- my desktop seems to have downloaded 6.4GB of stuff but isn't notifying me of anything just yet. Don't know if I can nudge it

- my 7" atom tablet doesn't have a ~BT folder yet. Also it fell off the network last night so screw that thing.

- my wife's surface pro 3 had the win10 reservation icon, but now doesn't have the win10 reservation icon. Also no ~BT folder. Had 123 important updates to do yesterday which took ages and apparantly most failed, so trying again now

Guys, I need your help!
My PC was running on Windows 7 (OEM), I switched a few month ago to Linux. I still have my Windows 7 OEM key.
Can I directly upgrade to Windows 10 (by upgrading my Windows 7 key online) or do I need to install Windows 7 first?
Thanks!

Guys, a reminder that if you load the installer into a USB drive and update through that, remove the USB key when it's about to reboot!

Well, Windows Update seems to be redownloading the whole update but it looks like the download is bigger now (5GB instead of 2GB) so hopefully that's a good sign.

You have to install 7 first, then upgrade from that. I haven't heard of a tool that will only upgrade keys yet (even though that would be cool and save a lot of time.)

The app notified me that I'm all set and ready to go, but I'm reluctant to make the jump for some reason. I think I'll sleep this one out for now and see everyone's impressions tomorrow.

Reposting from gaming side:

Snap got a serious downgrade :( I don't like how it works now, at least in tablet mode. You can't easily change out one half of your snapped apps, you basically have to resnap every time you want to change one of them.

So I can't, say, keep twitter snapped and switch the other half between other things at will, I have to resnap every time I want to change one of the apps. Not cool.

Also, a small annoyance, but it seems like the background for my login screen is just the default wallpaper, and I can't find a way to change it. Anyone else getting this?

The upgrade bases the install by the region (and language) your Windows is set to. I just set everything to English - US even the input and behold... upgrade is now in progress.

Looks like I won't be upgrading for a good while. I can hardly find info on Asus Xonar DG drivers, but the few posts I did find say it has issues. I can't go without sound.

I know. I used it back then. It was stupid then too. But they know people hate it and that they might have to backtrack, so why don't they just put it at the bottom? I need to hit them up on twitter. They listen to me.

trying to use the media create tool to put the update on a USB stick, but it isn't finding my USB 3.0 drive. It just appears in explorer as a normal drive so is that the problem? Do I need to use a shitty USB2.0 drive?

edit: apparantly so :(

how much space will it need for the update? I don't have much C: space on my 7" atom tablet and can't really free up any more as I barely have anything installed. Can it store any restore folder to my SD card?

Ech, the Windows Update icon disappeared from the taskbar so now I can't tell if it's actually downloading anything. I guess I just wait and see?

Installed fine,

Task Manager is saying 100% of my CPU is being used though. RealTemp is showing 2.4% though. Not sure what do.

Resource Monitor is saying core 3 is at 100% usage while all other cores are at 0% (i7 2600k)

Just finished upgrading, now doing the clean reset.

this night will pull itself away from me.

just surprised at the 200k+ views at this thread.. simply amazing.. thanks.
