after looking at pages all i saw were the install errors so sorry if someone else has asked

But is the W10/Nvidia driver problem still there? that damn driver was the reason I uninstalled the insider preview

I've already got W10 as I've been on the insider preview for months

...but how do I upgrade a PC that's got windows 8 with 10 reserved? Is there a link? Or do I have to wait? All the PCs at my parents house are awaiting the upgrade.

Oh and windows 10 is the best OS I have ever used btw. Started with BBC Micro and Windows 3.11

Not had a notification yet, i think i will leave it a week or so anyway before i install Win10 just to be safe, i don't want to end up messing something up.

I had issues upon the initial install with the latest nvidia drivers, but after a quick reboot, everything was fixed related to nvidia graphics (970 here)

I can now confirm that my desktop icons and programs are being run on a nonexistant 3rd monitor. I also cannot access the program needed to change this because Win10 says "this app has expired."

...
Since when did changing the resolution and managing multiple monitors become optional store bought programs?
What the hell, Microsoft?

Ah, so that's the reset that folks were talking about. I got the option to rollback within a month. Is that the folder windows.old I'm seeing? If I'm pretty satisfied with Windows 10 and don't want to do a rollback, can I deleted the windows.old folder? It is eating a lot of space (24GB).

yes!

I've got a GTX 970 and I've never had any graphical issues.

In fact, windows 10 has been fucking bliss so far in the few months I've had it.

If you have to edit host files in order to block ads, well....just go to chrome and download the plethora of adblockers that are out there for this browser. Just too much work.

I hate using Chrome. Every time I install it, it slows my computer to crawl regardless if I'm using if or not. Then when I uninstall it, the computer works fine.

Editing hosts on a system wide basis is a better method of ad blocking as more apps include adverts.

Editing host files is literally pasting into a text document, there is nothing complex about it.

A good list is maintained here http://someonewhocares.org/hosts/

But where do I bet this text document and where do I paste it?

Other people are having this issue on the gaming side...hmmm...must be something to do with how the store is being hammered

It keeps getting stuck at 89% in copying files and it stays there for hours. I really wish there was a way to upgrade my key to 10 without having to do the upgrade (so I can just do a fresh install).

No software keyboard popping up when tapping a text input field unless in tablet mode is a shame. It should know if you have a keyboard paired and if not, pop up the keyboard.

Also google maps doesn't seem to like the edge browser - can't zoom or pan. Is there a google maps app, or is Windows maps any good?

Relatively painless upgrade from Windows 8.1 for me.
Nvidia driver failed and I was stuck with 1024x768 on Windows default display driver. A restart fixed it.

So far everything seems to be running a little slower than it did previously. I haven't tried any games yet, but boot time and time to open Chrome was a bit longer. Maybe it's still setting some stuff up in the background.

Thank you to our Windows Insiders for helping us build Windows 10. If you’re a Windows Insider and running build 10240 – you already have the Windows 10 we are making available today. All you need to do is check Windows Update and make sure you have all the final updates. If you didn’t upgrade to the latest build as a Windows Insider, you can upgrade here. The Windows Insider Program will continue, and we will have more details to share soon about the next wave of the program.

Well, Insiders, time to end your insider program if you have it.

Options > Update and Recovery > Windows Update > Advanced Options > Insider > Stop receiving compilations > Restart

If you have 10240 and the updates from July 27-28 you're ready.

If you continue Insider you will receive new compilations and new experimental features.

AFAIK, you don't want to end your Insider if you didn't install it as an upgrade on an existing Genuine version of Windows.

I was in middle of installing windows 10 and it errored out and restored me back to windows 7. It said something about image couldn't load. I forgot to write down the error code. I guess I'll try again.

I'm not even trying to access the store though.

Also after just now struggling to blindly drag half my programs back into visible view, I was able to open my nvidia control panel so I could turn off this 3rd monitor, I find out that it really does not exist.
So for whatever reason, Microsoft actually added in an invisible zone to the desktop. Why they would do this, I have no idea. They fucked up big time.

Glad I'm not the only one with this issue. I literally can't reset my Windows 10 because the reset settings is a seperate app. All my apps and shit that came with windows 10 won't open and say they were trials and have now expired wtf?!

Wondering how to "force" the upgrade too. It just says I'll be notified when it's ready for my pc.

The new settings app is a store app...so it might need to authenticate to the store

the 3rd monitor seems like a glitch

Looks like the upgrade does indeed have some issues with the way it handles the preexisting nvidia drivers. Have 2 of my PCs down ATM because of it (only similar hardware between the two is an nvidia GPU and a logitech webcam). Login screen flashes continuously after the upgrade. Rolling back one and have to clean install on the other (BCD somehow got corrupted)

So it seems like it installed correctly.

But there is an overscan/underscan(?) issue I don't know how to fix.

I have my desktop connected to my lcd tv through hdmi and I can't see the borders, like the time or taskbar.

Anyone know how to correct that?

Thanks in advance.

For anyone else getting the error that Windows cannot activate, I just got off the phone with Microsoft. (After being on hold for over an hour, but I had nothing better to do.)

Supposedly, they're aware of the issue. They said it should fix itself sometime in the near future.

Plus, the woman told me "Thank you for calling Microsoft, God Bless" which...was...ya. Guess they need the Holy Ghost to get this stuff fixed now.

Hi, I'm currently running the Win 10 upgrade from Win 7, it's at 9% on a black screen with the progress number inside a big circle.

My question is, why didn't I get asked what partition or HDD to use prior getting to the actual install?

Right now I assume Win 10 is being installed on my old 2TB C: HDD where Win 7 was, however I didn't want to have Win 10 on that HDD since it's old and slow, I was going to keep the drive for backups and storage, but I wanted Win 10 to be installed on my new and currently empty 500 GB SSD.

So, how can I get Win 10 on my SSD after this install finishes in about 2 hours
