Upgrade from Windows 7 if you want a fully activated Windows 10 licence!
Really? So I'll have to format my PC, install Windows 7 and upgrade it again? Holy shit. I believe I read somewhere (Arstechnica, if not mistaken) that Microsoft would eventually let you upgrade your preview build using a valid Windows 7 license without having to install it. I guess it's just too soon, then. Damn.

Possibly restart your computer? Reinstall the latest graphics driver?

I've done that a few times today and it's still happening. I wouldn't even know where to begin finding drivers for my video card. It's a generic Intel HD that I can't seem to find much about, or where to find the drivers other than it says "Intel HD Graphics".

Is anyone else having slow, and sometimes unresponsive scrolling with Edge?

Can I use the tool provided by Microsoft to upgrade to windows 10, or is it going to error out every time I try to enter in my Windows 7 key?

I spoke too soon. You can just check for updates on your Insider build and you should be updated to the latest.

However, if you want to upgrade your Windows 7 OS and remove it since it is no longer going to be supported in the future, you have to upgrade your Windows 7 OS in order to get a fully activated Windows 10 OS.

Hope this helps!

Updated main computer and install was activated. Reset the computer and now it's not activated (installed with default key).

Thanks Microsoft, very awesome.

Give it some time. Activation servers are more than likely hammered right now. Took most of the day for one of my machines to activate.

Sounds like quite the ride... gonna hold off until you all figure out all the bullshit for me.

Also, dLMN8R yesterday:

dLMN8R today:

Not that I blame him, :lol

Poor dLMN8R.

Same for lastflowers.

If there's no Windows 10 driver available for a device, should I just download the Windows 8.1 driver?

Yes you can.

You can go as far back as Vista even for video drivers*.

I have it running on an 8 year old machine that's no longer supported by AMD with full acceleration. The only thing weird is I can't use fast boot.

*32-bit OS only

Intel Graphics are supported by Microsoft and Intel and guaranteed to be compatible with Windows 10. There should be a tool on Intel's website that automatically deters your integrated graphics and recommends the appropriate driver.

Try that.

Only if you want OneDrive support, which is fucking awesome BTW. I can log in to onedrive.com from any computer and access ANY file on my computer.

One of the best things with syncing is using Cortana and other things like one note while being able to hop between my desktop and surface. All synced and ready. Cortana will follow you to each device.

Since I keep everything in the cloud and have no problem to format my system, I'm about to try something: I've just downloaded the Microsoft tool and, so far, it has downloaded the system and it's checking for updates. I believe it's gonna install the system over my preview build and ask for a valid license somewhere in the future. Let's see what happens, it's gonna my cool being a guinea pig for fellow gaffers :P

I did a double take and the text is roughly the same size as on the Twitter website, it's just the whitespace that's slightly bigger:

Top is the app, bottom is the website on Firefox:

Microsoft really needs to optimize that usage of white space! So glaring especially when doing work at night!

Not a fan!

It didn't reboot.

After it finishes downloading I thought, if I remember correctly you have to hit continue or something of that sort to start the reboot. I was on the road using teamviewer on my phone to walk the upgrade thru so I don't recall the step after downloading.

Does anyone know about when PCs will start coming with Windows 10 preinstalled? I'm in the market for a new PC but I don't ever want to have to deal with windows 8 or having to reinstall 10 if I reformat

Can I just upgrade straight into Windows 10? Do I need to back up anything? I haven't gotten the update yet, so I will probably have to use the tool. :/

OK, so, is that $BT file important? I did everything else, can I delete it to see if it helps force an install?

Will I never get the install, or do I just have to continue waiting? I dont mind waiting, but the "something happened" thing is so annoying

I think all new pc's come with win 10 now unless it is some leftover stock in brick and mortar stores.

Update went smooth and quick tonight.. so far really enjoying it overall. Slick and the xbox app is great.

I have not dug too deep into it but how do you stream from the X1 to PC?

Oh come on :) Windows 8 wasn't that bad. Once you got used to typing on the metro screen or just customizing it, I was more productive on 8 than I was 7. Worst case install classic shell or something.

To answer your question I imagine very soon. Ms will want to oem partners to push them as soon as possible.

Yeah you should be fine to run the upgrade tool. No need to back anything up. It will have a check box to save your data.

As long as you don't blow away your partitions on that disk you should be fine. I would, to be safe, unplug the other disks if you are worried.

Yah, will just unplug it to be safe. Update is already downloading and stuff its on the making sure you're ready to install step, if I reboot will it pick up there?

A safe bet would be this holiday season for sure. However, you can see if PCs come with Windows 10 in the upcoming Back-to-School season in August/September.

There are already PCs at Best Buy which have Windows 10 preloaded. So yeah!

On Windows 7 I had 18GB of free space on my SSD, since upgrading to W10 I now have 58GB of space free. Fuck yes, loving this OS so far.

Verify the xbox app is version 7. Then you will hit the connect button on the left side and connect with your xbox. Once connected you hit the stream button right above it. That's it.

I had some issues with Nvidia's drivers on my desktop when I updated, but my laptop updated quickly and without problems. My Windows 10 experience has been very good thusfar.

The tool should give you the upgrade option right within windows 8. It sometimes doesn't allow everyone to upgrade but it sounds more hit than miss. It got my one rig to upgrade where my others were all ready and waiting.

Well my PC has the "you're qualified for Win10" app so I guess I should be fine, right?

You may need to either hit the windows 10 icon on the task bar or run the tool again after the reboot to get it to force the install again.

You can't unfortunately, at least not officially. You can follow a guide like this, which is pretty simple, to do it if you want though.

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for this link. The solid white was driving me crazy. Plus that link also shows how to access the old color sliders so you can more fully customize the color/hue/saturation.

I got a Surface Pro 3 from work a while back and have been using WP10 for a few weeks now. I grew to really like it. It wont bring me back to Windows but I think Microsoft did a great job with this release. People dont realize it but MS has some great designers working for them and it shows in how "alive" WP10 feels.

Man other than the initial error during Windows update, the entire process to upgrade was so smooth. Really surprised. Have to go to bed so I can't really play with it until tomorrow night. Oh well

So I just installed Windows 10 got to 100% restarted itself now it will no longer boot go windows and 8.1 is gone.

I'm fucked now.

Used a usb stick and did the manual install :(

It just blue screens with an error code.
