So i'm sitting in front of my girlfriend's mom's laptop and it's an old Windows 7 machine.
With Windows 8, i think you pretty much could use Windows 7 drivers. That's not the case with Windows 10 anymore, right?
I'm about to put my old SSD into her machine to speed it up a bit. What would you guys recommend?
* Windows 7 (familiarity)
* Windows 8.1 (better OS, better SSD support, some Metro weirdness)
* Windows 10 ('best' OS, less Metro weirdness compared to 8.1
i'm unsure, since going for 10 is the biggest hassle ...
Exactly. Besides, they're not hiding it and quite frankly it's already established that the big three need data to drive their models of support.
As for Linux.... yeah, desktop linux will never take off and on phones you've got Ubuntu and Android; One has safety and security, one has features everyone wants. It's tough for sure.
let's not derail this all too much, but i'm not sure how much this has been "established", given Apple's aggressive stance towards "we don't want your data (because we make shitloads of money from you buying our rather expensive hardware, anyways)".
If i wasn't using my Windows Machine exclusively for gaming, if it were my 'personal computer' (as much as my macbook is), some of these privacy issues would definitely rub me the wrong way.
As it stands, they can collect all the keystrokes of me playing Dota or Starcraft all they want.
