Windows 10 Troubleshooting Thread

I downloaded and installed it. Couldn't connect to the internet hard wired or over wifi. Didn't even have the options in the network settings. Switched back to 8.1 and everything is working fine.

Downloading W10 via Windows Update now and ho boy, is it slow. It's been going for ten minutes and is 2% downloaded. I'm on 50MB fibreoptic broadband with Virgin Media. Guess this is to be expected? Am I OK to cancel out at this point, or should I just leave it going?

Yep, it's buried in the settings for explorer.

Saw it. Thanks!

When I try to install Windows 10 using the Media Installation Tool I get the message "Use the other installation disc that says 64-bit. When you insert it, Windows Setup will restart automatically.", no matter if I try to install by DVD or USB. I do of course chose the 64-bit option when I download, and have repeated the process multiple times.

I give up. :/

Should I keep the "download from other sources" option on for Windows Update? Is it going to mess with my connection; because from the sound of it, I'll be seeding the updates for other people.

Anyone have an answer to this:

Before updating the icon said everything was compatible.

Are you launching the ISO while you are in windows? I got that error only when I tried to boot from a USB.

It worked perfectly for me when I just saved the ISO to my Desktop and and double clicked it and started the upgrade from within Windows 8.1

Anyone else have Windows automatically install Candy Crush Saga? I did not go to the Windows Store but I saw it in my applications and never installed any games to this computer before.

Anyone know how to get a DS3 working with windows 10? It wiped out my previous drivers and as far as I can tell they (motionjoy) don't have windows 10 ones?

Please bae, just resize! :(

very much this.

Now look at that.
My Windows 10 is activated!

(i am one of those:
"had it reserved on 8.1, clean installed 8.1 on a fresh SSD, entering an 8.1 key for install, changing it to my 8.0 key after install, waiting 24 hours for the upgrade, went on to download the ISO to force the update" people)

Quick question boys and girls.
I need to upload a file to mega, and win10 isn't letting me saying i need permission from the file owner or admin.
But i'm the only one who uses my comp, and i'm the admin. Can someone help, this is important. Please.

Chrome related issue. can't tell if W10 or Chrome. but when you use half of the screen it becomes unresponsive. can't type or click anywhere until you maximize the browser.

Version 45.0.2454.15 beta-m (64-bit)

What's happening with the resolution? I have a 1080p screen yet all of my legacy applications (Steam, uTorrent, BS Player, ETC.) run like I have a 720p screen (my modern/metro apps run at 1080p). Does anyone know a fix for this? Or do I have to wait for an update?

Is there a way to quickly clear the live tiles on the Start Menu? I never used the Start screen in Windows 8.1 and apparently ended up with a shit ton of tiles on it that migrated over to the Windows 10 Start Menu.

I'd like to clean it up a little faster than manually unpinning a ton of tiles.

I would like have a small handful of tiles there, but I need to get rid of the clutter first.

Is you're DPI setting over 100%, or are you getting overscan or underscan?

My DPI is 125% (which Windows itself recommends and is default). I just changed it to 100%, and while the legacy apps are now the correct size, everything else is too small. The only adjustments after that I could do is make the font bigger...but the icons would still remain too small.

In Windows 8.1 this wasn't an issue.

i just tried going for 125%

i can't tell if it's me being used to my rMBP or if i have a shitty screen, but Windows 10 fonts look ass on a 1080p panel. Especially when the text button you clicked does this little squeezy thing. It always looks a bit blurry.
which is a stark contrast to the otherwise straight edges, flat surfaces and 90° angles of the UI.

and that god damn highly compressed wallpaper :(

still, i'm happy the charms bar is gone. still not a fan of there being 2 apps for so many things (like settings)
it makes the entire OS still feel somewhat disjointed.

like, when you're in tablet mode, and you're in Settings -> Personalization -> Themes, it still pushes you into a "desktop style" app

Thanks man! I understand now. All clear. To be honest it was frustrating the hell out of me so at least now I have my answer. Looks like I might need a laptop upgrade.

I have my desktop to serve my power needs but unfortunately an upgrade is your only option if you want to benefit from DX12 (if your laptop is your only computer).

Now that i have Win10 installed...

what do i do with $Windows.~BT and ~WS?

are they safe to delete? DIsk Cleanup doesn't mention them

Any help guys? have no idea what to do, can't install this damn thing

I had the same problem on first boot after the install completed. Restarting the computer fixed it completely.

It really does. It's a huge improvement from Windows 8, but still needs some work.

Happening to me too, would like to know if it's a known issue

Is anybody else unable to sign into either the Xbox app or the Windows Store? I fixed the issue with not being able to open Edge but those two persist. Explorer also freezes every time I boot up and I have to restart it through task manager.

Is there a solution to that device limit reached thing?

Do you have scaling set to 100% and not any higher?

Updated my alienware 14 to windows 10 just now and now I have no wifi. Plugged in ethernet cord and went to dell website to download wireless drivers and they didn't work. Not really sure how to fix this.

I hate new multimedia permonance.
Since w10 I had a lot of problems with MKV playback, even disabling Media Fundation codecs and going with external codecs.
Never had any issue with 7, 8 or 8.1 :(
it lags on let in me to take control of time bar during first video minutes.
and if I do any click on the screen during that time it shows this way:
After few "seconds" it works fine:
but it's annoying and only happens with BDRip videos.
BDMux and BD m1080p mkv files load ok and fast but BDRip files are a pain in the ass. If I righ-click on the file even windows take some time searching properties.
Sad.

The store (and apps) won't even load for me. They close after 1 second.

Scaling is actually at 125%. Changing to 100% made the legacy apps work but suddenly the stuff that was fine (Chrome, etc) is smaller, and I got a task bar for ants. I'll check later if restarting after changing to 100% fixes Chrome/etc

Don't use Windows Media Player then, it sucks.

I use VLC for Modern Windows

Run Powershell with administrator priv and use this command:
Code:
Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}
Warning - it will reset Cortana and other apps but it should fix the issue (it did for me).

read my post from earlier. Don't use this stupid command prompt method that people are trying to tell you to use.

Speaking on this, I have my laptop which I had wanted to reserve an update thru doing this on Windows Update, but now it refuses to trying to let me hide the upgrade.. as I don't want to upgrade this laptop till I need to for my classes in school?

can you help?

I used to use VLC, but I hadn't to use it with W7, 8 or 8.1 wmp was ok with K-Lite Codec pack. It's new native codec problem.
Even have problems with windows explorer if you right click on the file a this have nothing to do with player.

Takes some seconds to load the info, and as I said this only happens with BDRip 1080p mkv files not with BDMux or m1080p mkv files.
