Windows 10 Troubleshooting Thread

Sorry if this was already asked, but is there a way to make Windows 10 Pro allow me to pick and choose what updates get installed? I understand (not really) it may be ok to force updates down our throat if we are running Windows 10 Home, but 10 Pro should allow me to blacklist updates I don't want and manually pick and choose the rest.

If all else fails, I plan to stand up a windows 2012 R2 WSUS VM and point my desktop to that. Completely overkill but I can power it off when I'm not using it and gain the ability to approve updates that I want installed.

there is a group policy option to only allow manual updating. No clue if it works though

Can I get Edge to use Google instead of Bing? The "add" button in the settings is greyed out.

And forgive the stupid question, but there can be no Lastpass support until Edge adds extensions, right?
 
Started the install process before dinner and came back with a fully installed and functional Windows 10. As it stands, I know one friend who's computer got fucked up so bad by the process he had to reformat. Other than that, everyone else has been fine.

Load up Google.com in a tab and try again, you should be able to add it then.

Yup, nothin til extension support comes out in October
 
So this was a concern before W10 launched, but I never found an answer: how do you integrate FB profiles with the People app? On the W10 Mobile beta, you choose to sync from within the FB app but I can't find anything like that on W10.

Also, do we have a W10 OT? There are like 4 different threads going on right now, haha.
 
I'm having an issue where I can't save to certain locations unless I run Firefox as an administrator.

Is there any way to fix this?

Edit: Fixed it. I had to go into the security settings and give permission to users.
 
Fuck me, I used the reset tool since I couldn't get the bootable drive tool to work and now my laptop is bricked, stuck on an infinite blue screen loop.

INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE?

I just got my SP3 back from the MS Store because I was stuck in a loop. They tried recovering, but ended up having to do a fresh W10 install. Took overnight but was free.
 
I've been trying to create a bootable USB from the Windows 10 ISO that I have but it hasn't worked.

I think I'm just gonna reinstall Windows 8.1 and stick with it for a bit.
 
So when/how can I actually get Windows 10? I "reserved" it ages ago but never got any pop up or indication it was downloading or trying to download.

I had the same problem as you. What you should try is deleting your Nvidia folder and then do a reboot and then try installing the drivers again, worked for me.

Thanks, but no dice. Same error.

Also had my first overclocking failed BIOS error since building this PC nearly six years ago. Wonder if it has something to do with W10 or if my CPU is starting to bite it.

You can set Win Update to not install drivers. Check one of my last posts.

Have you linked your Microsoft account with your Facebook account? That's how it used to work with Windows 8.1
 
I'm pretty novice when it comes to this stuff but I just upgrade my Windows 7 32-bit to Windows 10 32-bit. I'm pretty sure my rig would be able to handle 64-bit just fine. Is there any way for me to get W10, 64-bit for free and install it right now?
 
Still having indexing issues even with a different Start Menu (Start10) ... Not sure if there's anything I can do to fix this, or I should just wait for a patch
 
Well, Battlefield 4 CTE won't allow me to go into Chrome to open it. It just hanges in the Origin client or the start-menu pop-out menu of Origins. Hopefully a reboot will fix this, but I'm not thrilled if I have to go back to 8 (ugh) just to make sure my clients are working 100%. :|

Thinking of upgrading soon, so if I remember reading right from earlier in the thread, once you do the upgrade install you're able to reset (clean install) without needing a boot disk/usb? Just want to make sure I'm not gonna hose myself not having one.

Does anyone know how sync works? How does windows know which computer's settings to use? I made changes on my desktop, but then my surface settings keep taking priority.

Asus had drivers ready for Windows 10 which fix this issue. They've also had their 'Smart Gesture' app already cooked for Windows 10, woo!

I don't get it at all. I have all the sync options turns on. I added some bookmarks to Edge on my surface. They aren't showing up on my desktop. What am I doing wrong?
