I tried searching the thread but can't find it. Can anyone tell me how I can postpone/stop an automatic update? I don't want it to download these Nvidia drivers. Using Pro.

Go to the advanced system settings and then look under the hardware tab. Here you can decide if windows update should install new drivers or not.

Did it to avoid soundcard drivers from via, that wouldnt detect headphone insertion.

For a first stable release I continue to be impressed with Edge. I am not using it as my primary browser but the testing I've done has given me great impressions. I love using it as my 'secondary browser' for things l like streaming video on netflix. It's perfectly smooth.

I can almost see a future where It does become my primary. Once extensions are added and they keep working on the html5 featureset.

That doesn't work. It won't install new hardware when you add it, but once the drivers are in, it will update them.

Nvidia drivers were still updating constantly.

You have to remember to goto the device manager and select the driver, right click and then select uninstall and delete driver. Otherwise the driver is on your system and windows will update.

Yeah, you do. But you also need to have some form of the drivers installed for gaming performance so once they're in from any source, Windows will update it.

What sound card do you have? My PC has pretty standard parts but I was wondering if my Soundblaster Z was possibly holding up my upgrade notification.

Hi! Sorry about the late reply.

I have a Soundblaster ZxR and the drivers I had installed under Win 8.1 work perfectly fine under 10. Although I see they are releasing Windows 10 compliant drivers soon for my model, but I haven't encountered any dealbreakers for me so far. I don't use EVERY feature of my card though, so there may be some things not working right. But listening to 24bit music on my connected headphones, adjusting the various sound alternation settings from SBX Pro Studio, or using the voice alteration stuff on my mic all work like they did before.

I also have an optical cable going from my TV to the soundcard to route sound from my consoles so I can hear it on my headphones when situations require it. Also works fine.

Oh and I want to address one of the problems I was having earlier. I mentioned that I could not find a quick and easy way to adjust monitor settings. Well, there actually is a shortcut for it.

Windows Key + P (this may not be new, but it's new to me -- i was using the charms bar to adjust my monitors before, but now it's gone)

Will bring up a list to enable/disable other monitors and other handy features very quickly. Awesome stuff!

Maybe it would work to edit the ini file of the nvidia drive and set the version number to somthing high like version 400 before installing it :-D you can also see if guru3d have a newer beta driver(just looked, they dont)

My Windows 10 installation decided to totally fuck up and it wouldn't let me reset the laptop or anything without throwing errors at me. If I use a Windows 10 disc to wipe the machine and install a fresh copy will it activate automatically or do I need to re-install Windows 7 then upgrade to 10 again?

I can't update and I have no idea why. I get to the bit where my PC resets and it's copying files then it just resets and restores my Windows 8.1 installation. It's happened 3 times now. Any idea why?

So I turned my pc on this morning and all I get is a blue screen with the spinning circle dots. No installing updates message or anything like that. This screen came up before the welcome / log in screen and it's been going for about 20 minutes now.

I did hold down the power button and shut down the pc but when I restarted, it did the same thing.

Any ideas? Should I just let it keep going?

Okay, I'm gonna need a ELI5 here: how do I update? I have the copy preordered and nothing yet. Can I use the media creation tool to upgrade? Because I don't want to do a clean install, I don't have a backup disk for that. Does the registry Method work if you didn't get those failed upgrade to Windows updates?

Might have an issue here.

I booted my computer this morning and it took three tries to get it up.

When it came up, there was no bios stuff and the first screen I saw told me there was an issue with ASUS Express Gate and I need to upgrade to the latest version.

The latest Windows version listed from their site is Windows 7.

It went right into Windows from the error screen so I don't know how serious the issue is, but I'm gonna have to look into it.

Okay, quoting myself here!

I can confirm that wiping\installing fresh from a Windows 10 disc and skipping the product key entry resulted in a fully activated installation. I didn't have to go from Windows 7 -> Windows 10 again which is pretty handy.

made this silly driver just for fun, i personally don't have any problems with the nvidia driver win 10 installs. but if i had i guess this would stop it from updating it.

I've managed to fix my earlier woe (apps from windows store with a different language but seemingly cant be toggled to English) by removing the Japanese language pack altogether. Now I need to use another PC to work since work apps here needs japanese locale. I never had a BSoD during my time with Windows 8.1 and now just two days into Windows 10, I've encountered them. I really would fall back to Win8 if this shits continues.

But now new problems pop out! I've had two BSoDs in a row, with different error messages in them. The first one has Bad_Pool_Caller in it, while the other has Video_Scheduler_Internal_Error. I suspect Nvidia's drivers since most here are having problems with it but Windows 10 installed it all by itself and its the latest driver (as shown by Nvidias site). Add to that there are times where whenever I click Start the whole computer stops responding then it will crash but return afterwards. Anyone help me fix this mess?

Standard tip here, but have you tried a reset (clean install)? I never trust "dirty" installs of major OS updates.

If you're getting code 80240020, follow these directions and the install for Windows 10 should start. I did it and it worked the first time.

Your explorer is opening Quick access on start. Somehow on some installations, it will crash File Explorer within 5 seconds.

Temporary fix is to change the starting folder to open to "This PC" in the options menu. Open File Explorer from a folder.

type regedit and press enter/ok
navigate to hkey_local_machine\software\policies\microsoft\windows defender
right click in the window to the right and select new > dword
call it DisableAntiSpyware and set its hexadicimal value to 1

close the regedit window and reboot the machine

I haven't tried a reset since there's so many work programs on my computer right now and most of them needs authentications from the program makers themselves it will take me a full day to reinstall them.

It's the safest, most reliable way, and the poster is an MS employee. It's basically skipping to the front of the line.

If you are very eager to upgrade, tech savvy users with the above message can modify the following registry key to install immediately.

Warning: Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Before you modify it, back up the registry for restoration in case problems occur.

1.Locate the registry key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\ OSUpgrade]

2.It should exist, but if not, create it.

3.Create a new DWORD (32-bit) Value with Name = "AllowOSUpgrade” (without the quotes), and set the Value = 0x00000001.

I have no idea what to do.

I'm pretty disappointed that live tiles haven't improved, in how they function.

On Windows Phone, they're pretty consistent--they update regularly or on a schedule without requiring you to access them.

On Windows 8/8.1, and now 10, it feels like waking up, turning on my SP3, and being greeted by blank live tiles is more common than not. I have a ton of appointments today--why do I not have anything on my Calendar tile?

Also the way I "fixed" the issue was to boot on the Last Known Good Configuration, so I believe I don't have the nvidia drivers installed at the moment, and the nvidia control center doesn't work
