Windows 11 Leaks

This is probably the cringiest video from Linus. He makes a point to say that Microsoft added something to the OS, but then tells you why it sucks and that it's comparable to something else. How else does a software company compete if they aren't on par? Secondly, barely anyone uses Linux.

Dont worry he will make a apology video in a month from now and talk about how much courage he has for doing so.

All the linus fans.

I've messed around with it for a day. If it weren't for the Android app support coming I'd switch back.

They've massacred the taskbar and fucked around with the Start Menu but achieved nothing yet again. There's absolutely no need to remove features. Trying to tell us how to use the software yet again.

Do Microsoft ever learn from their past mistakes that they fix and then break again?

Pretty sure they will backpedal and allow use of W10 Start Menu at this rate. The Feedback Hub is full of complaints.

Also if you're trying to get Win 11 still, you need to be in the Windows Insider program AND switch to the Dev Channel. For me I had to edit a registry setting to put me in it as it didn't give me the selection menu to swap between the 3 channels manually.

To the not so tech savy but barely enough, what exactly does Win11 brings to the table other than UI overhaul ?

Like Vista to 7 was self explanatory, and Win10 on my old laptop was faster than 7.
I hear Win11 requires better CPU, does it makes sense to upgrade from 10 when I literally do not want anything more out of this OS. (i5 9300h)

Will it let me add custom colors to certain folders open in windows explorer?

if they are gonna make me go through an upgrade I at least want some additional functionality.

Just noticed that for background images you can now choose a "Span" option to span a single image across 2 monitors instead of mirroring the image separately for each monitor. This could make for some fun stuff.

I mean the only thing that this changes is that you can use a single big/wide image instead of cutting it down to, say 3 pieces, and then applying all the individual pieces manually to the corresponding screen.
a nice quality of life change for sure, but not something that brings new possibilities with it as far as I can see

Yeah I got so annoyed by the forced combine and lack of text that I went back to W10 since there weren't any distinguishing features that make W11 better at this point.

It’s literally not done yet. The point of the Beta is to give feedback. If enough feedback is given, they will make the change. Does anyone remember where W10 started?

so i've decided to go back to Windows 10. after a few days the excitement wore off. there are some promising changes and i know it's a dev build but it was just pissing me off. ultimately i feel like it doesn't deserve to be called Windows 11. it should be Windows 10 21H2 which is exactly what appears in error logs and in my MS account.

i'll wait for public release and see if i want to go to W11.

That's almost always used as an excuse.

They released this into the public, so it clearly shows what their plans for the OS are. Sure, some bits will change, but it really will take a lot of backlash to get them to bring back removed features.

I remember and much wasn't change. They don't listen to the feedback that much, rather pick up the posts on the Microsoft support forum with more 'likes'.

I participated on both Windows 8 and Windows 10 beta BTW.

How can so many people be jumping to conclusions about whether or not Windows 11 will be good or bad based on it's appearance? They got rid of live tiles, simplified the start menu which appears to be fairly customizable. Not to mention, it has a much lighter footprint than its predecessors. Other than that, it's just a refreshed version of Windows, per usual except that it's getting rid of it's Windows Phone-esque UI.

People are stupid.

Agreed with this but everyone is forgetting 2000 which I'd categorize as good.
Also 98 SE which was a different thing from normal 98.

Also, ME reputation is undeserved. It was only really bad in the way that it was pointless compared to 98, which could do everything it could and more.

paralels is severely limited (including ram available). I want to use windows as a main OS

I mean... Your buying a Mac at the end of the day. Might as well just go buy a copycat design brand like Razor or such. I love bootcamp also, but with the M1 and now Win 11, it has no future :(

You forgot Windows 2000, which was excellent, and Windows 7 was just Vista with a new theme, no real changes. So Windows 11 is the 7 to 10's Vista. Vista wasn't even that bad. I've found over the years that people who think Vista was a bad OS are (or were) clueless.

You forgot 8.1. I've come around to the conclusion that Win 8.1 was Good and Win 10 is Bad. We've all been simply gaslighted into believing Win 10 is Good.

Well that and the memory leaks which leads to a lot of BSODs on ME, ME is the only operating system you can leave on the desktop doing nothing and within hours your computer will crash.

Already, improvements are rolling out for Windows 11 insider build. So all those worries about moving the start menu around will hopefully be resolved around release. I'm holding out for small icons, myself.

Microsoft releases Windows 11 Insider Build 22000.65 with several improvements and fixes - MSPoweruser

  • Start now has a search box to make it easier to find what you’re looking for.
  • Taskbar will now show across multiple monitors which can be enabled via Settings > Personalization > Taskbar.
  • We have updated several system alert dialog boxes such as the alert for when the battery is running low on your laptop or when you change your display settings with the new Windows 11 visual design.
  • The ‘Power mode’ settings are now available on the Power & battery page in Settings.
  • Right clicking the desktop now directly has a Refresh option without needing to click “Show more options”.
  • Right clicking a .ps1 file in File Explorer now directly has a Run with PowerShell options without needing to click “Show more options”.
  • Available snap layouts when using smaller PCs in portrait orientation have been optimized for that posture. You can now choose to snap three apps on top of each other, instead of four quadrants.
  • Based on the collaboration with the most popular GIF provider in China, weshineapp.com, GIF selections are now available for Windows Insiders in China via the emoji panel (WIN + .). If the location is set as China, then GIF data will appear from weshineapp.com.
  • Right-clicking on the volume icon in the taskbar now includes an option to troubleshoot sound problems.

I don't understand why they don't add actual useful features. Why don't they have a vlan built into Windows for example? That would be useful for home users and small businesses. Why don't they have xinput virtual mouse for the entire OS?

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.

I hope we get something like that via Giphy or Imgur, that sounds dope as hell

That "show taskbar on each monitor" setting is absolutely glorious.

Each monitor only shows the items that are actually on that screen. Move something from one screen to another moves the taskbar icon onto the active monitor. Very nice.
