Okay one super stupid thing I noticed: if you use a dual monitor setup it doesn't show the date/time on the second monitor.

What a weird omission.
You can in a very hacky way get the old taskbar at least as of the preview version of Win 11 I installed, but I also ended up with a goofy start menu/search. I also use the registry tweak that lets the wind 10 clock show seconds in addition to hours/minutes. I can't lose that feature. And I can't lose the taskbar clock on my 2nd and 3rd screens when I'm full screening something on my main monitor. It's completely ridiculous.

Use at your own discretion, my Windows install is very beat up and in need of a fresh install anyway so I figured I'd take the plunge.

My windows 11 snip tool doesn't really work and I haven't been able to revert to the decent Win 10 versions. No clue if it's even related to restoring the task bar, but if it's between crappy snip and no clock, I'm taking crap snip.

Oh and I can't right click stuff in task manager and kill it. Right click just... crashes..? Like there's a hint of a context menu popping up and then it's gone.

But, another benefit of restored task bar, I can right click on it to open up task manager, because that was gone in Windows 11 too, lol.

And I think the taskbar restore might have murdered my ability to get the smartphone style notifications they added in Win 10. I don't care, I don't really miss them, Slack and Discord both show when you have new messages on the taskbar anyway so why should I care?

For anyone interested, you can use windows 11 home version without an internet connection.

Just press Shift + F10
At the cmd window type taskmgr and then enter
Expand to more details
Find 'Network Connection Flow' - right click and choose End task
Now go back to Setup and continue to add local account

One super random thing I just noticed: it shows the progress of your download on the taskbar icon, even with Steam.

I'm downloading a game right nog through Steam it there's a tiny progress bar underneath the steam icon on the taskbar.

Very cool!

That's sad, what all have they removed?

I'm exaggerating a bit.

But:
  • Removed the ability to put the taskbar on any side of the screen.
  • Removed toolbars in the taskbar.
  • Moved the Start button and only after pressure implemented a way to move it back to the left.
  • Lumped all the taskbar settings together. So hovering over an icon works as before, but clicking any of the icons opens up the entire settings fly-in menu.
  • Taskmanager is only available from the Start Button, not anywhere on the taskbar.
  • The clock has fewer options.
  • The Start Menu has fewer options (only app icons) and has a 'recommended' section that you can't remove or edit to something else.
  • The Start Menu is not resizable.
  • Right-click context menus are sparser and require going into a sub menu for some options (the sub menu is still the Windows 10 UI though).
A personal one: settings, Start, the Microsoft Store all feel slower to me.

Some good things they have added:
  • Overhaul of the OS to support BIGlittle CPUs.
  • Changing virtual desktops is cleaner and easier.
  • Window snapping to pre-arranged positions is built-in and much better (not all programs support this though).
  • The Charms bar has had stuff moved to the new fly-in settings menu. And this is customisable.

They could have just made a lot of this optional. I get the feeling that they really didn't want to waste their work on WIndows X though, so shoehorned it onto everyone.

Going to wait until some bugs get ironed out, also until there are known items to be removed (debloated), telemetry and all that crap.

So uh... why is the menu after you right-click some file so different? If I want to send a file to an external HDD for example I now have to click 'show more options' or Shift+F10 to get there. Is there a way to change this?

Edit-

Found it https://www.pcgamer.com/windows-11-context-menu-fix-right-click/
Because a running complaint over the years has been how messy the context menu in windows can get, so they tried stsndardizing it by having a group of common actions in the initial menu, and hiding the rest behind the “show more options” button.

does anyone have the problem where you click on some part of the screen and the game loses focus (sound stops like I clicked out of the window). I've had that happen in a few games. Doesn't matter if it's borderless or fullscreen

I upgraded my work PC, first thing that stands out that I hate is that they removed my ability from 10 to put my clock on both monitors.. this is such a huge thing to me, at least there is a freeware app to do it for me.

I use taskbarx along with a taskbar restoring script to bring that all back and give me lots of taskbar customization.

I will do clean install tomorrow. Does unplugging ethernet for installation helps like in win10 ?
