Windows 11 officially launches October 5th

Kinda of a duplicate in the off-topic section

I still think it's sadly a while before we see games but hopefully we see some alpha's in the production software side.

I hope I can get it through the update assistant instead of waiting on rollouts. I didn't update to 21H1 until 2 weeks ago and I had to use the update assistant.

So what's the consensus? Update or wait? I was on the early Win10 train and didn't really regret it. Everything worked alright without much issue.

Already on the public insider program and it is awesome.

Been running it on virtual server for a while now. It's pretty stable outside some tools for Admin specifics like Local policy editors not being 100%.

I thought Windows 10 was light compared to windows 7, 11 is a whole different ball game in terms of imprint.

Good to hear about it being light

Can't run it because my PC is "too old" and their enforcing TPM Secure Boot 2.0 thanks MS, my laptop is just fine, what a dumb stumbling block to put in people's way. Yea yea, security whatever, are they saying Windows 10 is inherently insecure because it doesn't require that "feature"?

Is direct storage coming with it, or at a later date?
Seems to be with it, they only highlighted the delay of the android apps.

You are treating it as binary where its more of a continuous binary (there probably isn't a 100% secure OS, just ones whose exploits haven't been figured out), but yes, it is less secure cause it doesn't have TPM. Also you can install it but they won't guarantee that every updates will come to you.

I can understand not getting updates that work with TPM, that makes perfect sense, but the way it's worded around the few shitty sources(the Verge) is that MS will bar you from the regular Windows Update stream, and MS isn't clarifying if this poorly written shit they put out is true or false.

Looking forward to it, but one of the first things I'm going to do is uninstall Teams. I have an irrational dislike of that product and them making it front and center to this release irks me.

I only had issues with my monitor and PC going to sleep, just one time, and that was it. Everything else has been stable, and I've gained performance in just about all my games.

Of course, its Windows 10 with a new paint job.. and Windows 10 has been rock solid for a while now.

People think this is some sort of a huge change, like xp to vista or something, when in fact its just a very nice service pack.

As a home user I'm very happy with Windows 10 , as an IT guy I think it's worse than 8..
Like just the inability to prevent it from replacing working drivers with ones that don't work during a windows update is maddening.. and now the printer situation is hell on earth.
"Hey Microsoft the Vulnerability was not the print nightmare, the fix was"

I Expect some FPS dips for the first month in some games while everything is cleaned up with drivers and patches

We are testing this at work ahead of full deployment and it's looking to be pretty damn awesome. Deffo upgrading day 1

I would say wait for some weeks or months before upgrading. I have a feeling that a lot of the new features are not available in the first build.

Anyone know if the latest beta build of Win 11 has implemented the support for Easy Anti Cheat yet or is it still giving out errors when launching multiplayer games (Halo: MCC mainly)?

Will move over if gaming profits from it. Can't be bothered to reinstall my entire shit with everything for nothing.

If I install the beta version will it be updated to the release version after Oct.5 launch, or do you have to reinstall?

I think if you are on the beta branch you will still remain on that branch and you'll need to leave the insider program to switch to the retail version. Not sure if you can do an in-place upgrade or if you need to totally reinstall
