Not much new info here but does go into more depth about winRT.... of note are dell, lenovo and samsung will all have arm based hardware.

Some more from Paul Thurrott

What Microsoft didn’t tell you, however, is that Toshiba and Vizio are also delivering Windows RT devices this year.

And while I can’t reveal the Windows RT device lineup I’ve viewed, I can tell you that these devices will indeed be priced comparably with the iPad. As a reminder, Apple prices the iPad at $499 to $829, depending on configuration.

apparently metro went from

metro--------->"modern"------->"win 8 gui"?

WTF is going on

should've stuck with "modern" so it can be abbreviated as MUI (like NUI (natural user interface) and GUI (graphical user interface))

modern UI
metro UI
Microsoft UI

whatever

It's kind of a stupid decision to name it anything related to Windows 8 IMO since that OS name has a limited shelf life. Do they rename their UI when Windows 9 comes out?

I still wonder what the surface will be priced at.... that's the only one that really matters.

imo wp needs to hurry up and die so they can let full winRT take over....

If you believe some of the rumors win8 is going to point releases which would mean it will have a much longer shelf life than previous versions of windows..... sorta like osx has been around for a decade now.

don't worry, they'll have something completely different for Windows 9.

just gotta wait for Apple to make it first

Because Windows 8 is a total OSX clone, amiright?

coincidence?

I THINK NOT!

I'm wondering if I'll be able to get this for free through my school once it comes out. I have a MSDN account through my school and I was able to get Windows 7 through that. Seems like wishful thinking though, to give a brand new OS away for free so soon.

they're selling it for $40 as upgrades so why not

*Shrug* I dunno. $40 ain't bad for an upgrade though, so even if I can't get it through there I may just go for that.

Are the system requirements pretty much the same between Windows 7 and Windows 8?

So I'm really happy MS is planning an update next year for Windows 8 called "...Blue" because it not only simply allows me to know what's coming up next but it also allows people in general who aren't early adopters a period to allow the OS to settle.

I can't help, however, to wonder if this has given the trolls and curmudgeons of the internet renewed life to bitch incisively for a whole other year. Is this why we can't have nice things? :(

Been using it for since it came out and its a so much better OS than 7....
I was really excited about the system because I was expecting a redesign of the desktop in the final version, something like we saw in some mockups here.

The inconsistency is starting to annoy me, I know it's not something that will hamper my productivity but...

Well for what it’s worth, and without knowing what your specific annoyances are, the UI of RTM is varied enough that you might still have some of your issues resolved.

Since the taskbar is still transparent, does that mean the default theme uses the same amount of resources as Aero with transparency did?

It's subtle - not quite. The transparent taskbar no longer distorts/glasses-out stuff underneath it, which I imagine reduces the CPU drain.

If there is no glass effect, it's just simple blending between the background image and the taskbar color. It's a really simple operation. Apart from the background picture there aren't really any other layers behind the task bar.

Amazing... All those web offerings from Ms are shaping really nicely... It gives me high hopes for their W8 apps.

They need to update the calendar page too, it's atrocious compared to this shiny new look.
they have said that will be the last one to be updated.

I use SkyDrive heavily after that space upgrade, love it. Can't wait when this hits.

I use it for all my personal stuff, especially due to WP7 and those 25 GB.
I hope the Word functionality will become a bit quicker. I often use Google Docs just to take quick notes that will then be widely available, and if I could do that in Skydrive, it would be awesome.
