do all unbranded devices get the update immediately? or is the update process also stretched out over weeks?

I have a regular Vodafone-branded LG E900 that could be debranded via registry (as you know). Until know I haven't really had a reason to debrand, but the thought of another Mango-less month...

(the force-update-via-ethernet-unplug method doesn't seem to work on a Mac)
 
Been a thread lurker for some time tracking Window Phone's evolution. Just waiting on Nokia's official reveal of their phones and hoping to make the jump from iOS. One thing that is giving me second thoughts though is the lack of visual voicemail on AT&T... any news or rumors of if and when they will support it on Windows Phone?
 
how do you hide people in your contacts list? Before you could list your entire Facebook friends list, or narrow it to those that you have profiles for.

I don't like having so many contacts.nevermind. i figured it out.
 
As for mango apps. EBay is pretty cool. Pin items to start. And notifications. Still waiting to see if price updates with a tile flip but I doubt it. Also flixter is mango.

Go to contact select edit, page down and click on ringtones.

Also we should be able to select music by voice

Looks like they do, but apparently I need to call and have them enable it or something.

Took care of everything from the website..didn't have to call anyone.

Color is practically the only thing we can customize and yet they only give us 10 freakin color options. This should be the easiest thing for them to fix. I just don't get it.

And on the Suggestions forum, they closed out all feature suggestions that had "Customize background/picture" saying it was 'completed'. Hmph....

Maybe they were refering to the lock screen background/picture customization already being "completed". If the suggestion was to be able to add a picture/background behind the home screen tiles, then that may be different. Not sure I'd want that anyway.
 
Upgrade from the beta to final version yesterday and now Speech to Text is no longer working. Previously when someone texted me while I was driving I could reply via voice, now it's only giving me the option to call or ignore.

Is there something I need to do to re-enable it or is another feature that Canadians are not allowed to have? That was one of my favorite new features :/

EDIT: Nevermind, it got reset to off, I found the option. Probably something to do with the having to accept the privacy statement.
 
Fuck yes, Mango! Thanks for the help, guys! Had to use the Walsh tool, then Zune wouldn't do the "force" trick, so restarted comp and phone, and it worked.

Yeah, but no reason why SKYPE still can't be incorporated. Unless of course I'm reading Tango wrong and that it will only be available to new 'cheap' smartphones.
 
Force updated Mango last night. Glorious so far. Everything is just so much faster and more efficient.

I even had my first speech-to-text experience when in bed today. Listened to the text, replied, read the reply back, and sent. Every word was correct, first try! I love this!

I don't think they'll go down that road. If I had to give a prediction I'd say, Tango will add support for cheaper hardware and add few nifty new features.

They might just be down playing the update so people don't get over excited.

Considering MS still hasn't technically bought Skype (still waiting on regulatory approval), the most we can hope for at this point is a Skype app. Once the buyout officially goes through, then work can begin on actual Skype integration. Hopefully we will see something in Tango, or else we'll just have to wait until WP8 (assuming that's what the next major version will be called next year).

Edit the contact. You will see the option to change the ringtone.
 
In anyone else not able to download Shazam? I switched to Mango and to a Dutch Live account (and thus marketplace) and I cant download it anymore. So either the app is unavailable in my region or its just disappeared from the market and Im wondering which it is.

why would you still need shazam. bing on mango has a similar feature (im not sure if it is that way in the netherlands, but i believe it is)

Alright this has to be the biggest piece of shit phone ever (Samsung SGH-i917R)

Never get this phone. Period. I fixed the drivers yesterday and it worked perfectly. Today, started up the computer AND IT DOESN'T connect to Zune. All of a sudden it begins installing the driver AGAIN automatically.

I open up device manager and lo & behold that fucking yellow exclamation mark is there AGAIN, giving me the exact same error as yesterday. (Code 10 error) btw I looked up all the solutions and it did jack shit.

Fuck this phone. Fuck it to the 9th circle of hell.

I posted the question on Microsoft support forums but have yet to rec'd a response. Called Samsung and they said talk to Microsoft who is prob jerking off somewhere in the corner b/c I can't get a hold of them in Canada. The Canada Microsoft contact support page gives me zero information.

Anyone can help me. I seriously need help. This phone is brand new and I don't want to spend more money getting another shit phone.
 
Does anyone know how big the Mango update actually is? I've downloaded it three times now through the Zune software but the update keeps failing. Why doesn't the program delete the update files after you've successfully installed everything instead of always, no matter what happens.

You'll most likely not get an answer, ever. Unless the answer is on some of their clever lists of useless answers they'll just ignore you and pretend the problem doesn't exist. That's at least what they did when I posted various problems on there. :( Other Forums/Websites are way better, don't even use Microsoft's forums.

Quick question, are you using the front USB ports on your computer to connect your phone? I had trouble updating to final Mango, 3 times it failed. I plugged it into the rear USB and it worked first time.

I should have been specific when I said computer. I have a laptop. It has 4 usb ports and I connected it to all didn't work. I prob going to try reinstalling some usb drivers.

Code 10 error, you say? I had the same error. My PC basically seemed to "uninstall" the driver software while the phone was restarting and the update failed. My phone turned off, went into USB Mode, seemed to not connect to my PC and then restarted (home screen).

If that happens to you too you could try to force it into USB mode every time the phone restarts (hold the camera button). You'll now head over to your Device Manager and you'll probably see that yellow sign that shows you that there's something wrong with the device. Select the device, right click, and delete the drivers. Now you have to get the new drivers (make sure your phone is still in USB mode all this time) to install them. Windows downloaded them automatically. if the yellow sign still shows up => repeat.

Basically: Install the drivers while in USB mode.

I don't even know if that's your problem but it's how I solved mine. :)

Have you tried to force the update? Click on update and count how many seconds it takes until it tells you your phone is up to date. Say it takes 11 seconds then you'll want to pull the plug (disable WiFi, pull network cable) after eight or nine seconds. Took me a few tries but worked just fine. :)
