Nokia Planning US AT&T launch at CES

Nokia is planning to launch its U.S. Windows Phone device in January at the Consumer Electronics Show, WinRumors has learned.

The Finnish handset maker is working with AT&T to launch its Nokia Lumia Windows Phone at the Consumer Electronics Show. Microsoft is planning to support Nokia’s re-entry into the U.S. market with a large presence at CES 2012. Sources familiar with Microsoft’s plans have indicated to WinRumors that Nokia is in talks with several U.S. carriers to provide an LTE compatible handset as its first U.S. Windows Phone device. AT&T is expected to be the primary launch partner of any Nokia Windows Phone devices in the United States. Nokia is also in talks with other U.S. carriers to bring its Windows Phone devices to market on rival networks.

I hope there is some news of new phones in Canada soon. Things don't look very good up here. Bells phones were removed from the windows phone site.

Yea it's really depressing up here. There has been no news of new phones. And I was hoping to get the titain or nokia phone by the end of this month.
 
Just got home from the Baltimore WinPhone event. It was pretty fun. Lots of great food and drinks, and I finally got to put my grubby hands on the new phones. The Focus Flash felt kind of crappy, the Focus S felt pretty good, but the Titan blew me away. Both build quality and screen quality were really great.

To be fair MS could do with giving that reviewer a job, I hope they get a hold of it because by the time my contract is up for renewal I want a WP& Nokia.
 
So I just had the surprise of finding out that the pics uploaded via the cell phone camera on skydrive are horribly downscaled, with no setting on the phone to change this. Oh well, lesson fuckin learnt!
 
Yay! Finally got my HTC 7 Pro back with a shiny new screen, it's been 5 weeks or something :*(

Have I missed any cool new apps/games in that time?

as long as you didn't delete them...
Even when saving something in the cloud there should always be a local backup.


Yesterday I organized and tagged around 1400 photos (from my WP) in the Windows Live Photo Gallery and uploaded them to skydrive in their original size (around 1,5gb).
I wouldn't want to do that on the phone.

Skydrive has been pretty functional otherwise for me though.
 
Well, I went to the AT&T store and ended up biting on a Focus Flash. Only a few differences in that and the Focus S, and while the extra storage and bigger screen would have been nice, the difference isn't worth $150 to me.

Really liking the OS so far, lightyears beyond the old WM6 phone I had before this, and so far it's a lot sleeker than what I've used of Android and iOS, even if it's lacking in a few features here and there.

Isn't the UI native res for both the iPhone 4/4S and iPad? Only non iPhone 4/iPad apps would have their UI upscaled correct? Am I confused here?

You're still thinking in pixels. I'm saying that the higher resolution on the 4 doesn't change the size of UI elements on the screen. So the 3GS and 4 have different numbers of pixels, but occupy the same area on a 3.5" display.
 
I don't see how it takes 8 fucking days to get from Maryland to Tennessee. That doesn't even seem right. Hopefully I will have my Venue Pro (no bugs, please) on Tuesday on T-Mobile. Cannot wait to get back and finally stay with WP for at least 2 years.

At least I get the option of 30 day money back or 90 day warranty with the seller.

welcome. I have last yr's hd7. you'll find that whether it's an old phone or lower spec'd, the OS is silky smooth. that's the beauty of the platform.

This is why I don't like buying thing like phone on eBay you never know who you are dealing with. Hope you get it soon, and give us some impression. How much did you pay for it btw? I was about to get one off Amazon for around $260.00 but found out from seller that it's t-mo version and not At&t.

I think at this point I will wait and see what coming out in Jan. from Nokia. That if I don't get tempted by Titan next week.
 
It was around. $170 with shipping. Selling was blinq? I think. They seem reputable. They had over 10 left. 8gb T-Mo.

Like I said, at least I get the 30/90 if anything happens and someone said Dell wa honoring warrantys as well. Not sure if it would apply here.
 
Weird problem I've noticed. Not everything from FB shows up in my feed list in just my people section on my phone. However everything appears as it should in the actual FB app. Any reasons for this?

Yep..

If your friends don't allow third party apps to see their status updates or certain content, it won't show up in your 'people' feed.

the People hub is a third party facebook app.. whereas the official facebook app is "first party" and can't be blocked from displaying certain content..

That problem would go away if Facebook would make 'People' an official application.. but that is up to them to do..
 
I think my biggest problem with WP7, or more the carriers and manufacturers, is that the planned obsolescence is too obvious. If the Mango phones had 1GB RAM, I think there is a good chance people wouldn't feel the need to upgrade when their contract was up. And the people selling you the phones don't want that, of course.
 
Is there any way to have more than 20 people in one group? I really need to group my contact but without the ability to put as many people as I want into a group, the feature is pretty useless. Why would there be such a restriction?
 
Put a big crack down the middle of my Focus screen last night. I wonder if we're at a point where my warranty replacement will be a Focus Flash/Focus S? :P
 
I'm thinking about buying an HTC HD7 or Dell Venue Pro (basically any T-Mobile WP7 device) as a Xmas gift for a friend.

Bad choice? I know better things are coming, I just am wondering if they perform well still/are relevant. Don't know if there's something I don't know.

The DVP is a good wp7 device. The physical keyboard is pretty awesome, the hardware is responsive, and the problems it previously had with WiFi has been fixed via updates. However, it has a very shitty camera. Every image taken in a condition other than direct sunlight comes out blurry as shit. As a DVP user, I would not recommend getting it unless you feel the need for a physical keyboard.
 
I have been getting massive delays in my text messages (12 to 24 hrs) for some time now. What is more likely? My phone or my carrier (Rogers) is the problem.

I'd say Rogers but I am not 100% on that. Did you try googling it, to see if people have had the same problem. Also what's your phone.

I have a Focus. Started to happen sometime after upgrading to Mango. I'll try googling it and call Rogers tomorrow.

I was reading on the XNA forums that many people have had this same problem. They would receive 10 text messages and then no more until they did a soft reset to only receive another 10 texts. I tried send 10 texts to myself and this was the case. They have a possible fix by going into the debug so I'm going to give that a try.

Edit: So far so good. The fix seemed to work for now.
