What do folks recommend for an RSS reader for WP7? Weave? Feed Reader ('though I don't currently use Google Reader)?
I use gReadie with no problems so far.

And if you don't have a Google reader account try feed7.

I've tried both of those and many others, and gReadie is definitely the best IMO.

I posted in the app thread the problems I've had with reader software on the phone, I just can't get one to work the way I'm used to, which is to load a certain amount of posts, then allow me to mark THOSE POSTS ONLY as read.

Focus just arrived, all safe and sound.

And this time, everything works. Youtube, Hotmail, etc...unlike my dead Omnia 7.

Lovin' it.

When the hell is Microsoft going to publish that official list of working SD cards? I'm tired of not being able to fit all my music collection on my phone.

I've just downloaded my third YouTube App. This time it's the HTC one and I have to say; it's great. I don't know if it needs Microsoft's YouTube Application, but the player windows doesn't look like the regular one. You can select "HQ" to have a higher quality and can change it whenever you want. Two bad things, though: No log in and you can't get it if you don't have an HTC phone.

I use the SimpiRSS one. It's not perfect, but I only have a couple of Feeds so it's okay.

Two hours trying to apply 3 damn screen protectors, all attempts failed.

Fuck this, I don't need them anyway.

This may have been answered elsewhere but damn this thread has grown. Do you HAVE to use the Zune software to work with the phone? My current phone (BB Curve) works just like a USB storage device when plugged in so I can manage the music, movies, etc. myself without really needing a separate piece of software. Just wondering if a phone like the Focus will work similarly.

Not that I hate the Zune Software or anything, just curious. Thanks!

There are hacks to get it visible as a mass storage device... but Microsoft recommends against it. They gave a technical explanation to do with the manner in which the phones are supposed to build their records of what's present on the device, though whether that's them wanting you to use Zune software or not is beyond me.

The one that I use is from Zagg, it was pretty easy to put on I've used it for both my HD7 and Zun hd.

I'll post pics when I can

Two bits of customer service experience with ATT:

So after work yesterday, I went to the ATT Store to see if I could get my phone replaced. I explain the situation about how I THINK it's related to the drop (but not certain) and that I have insurance. The lady at the register promptly gives me a phone and just dials ATT's hotline. Really? That's how insurance claims are handled--only via phone? What a waste of time. I'd wish that ATT Store could at least handle the claims directly.

On the other hand, the phone shipped last night and arrived this morning, so I'm really happy with that :lol I miss my phone, can't wait to get off work.

I have my apply for about a month using Skinomi (I was originally going to sport the phone naked). It went on well but after about a week or so there is a little nik that won't go away. They send me a replacement but after I remove the skin I decided that the phone feel better without it. (I still have the skin on the rest of the phone).

Get one of those surgical gloves and I find that help a lot when applying the screen protector.

I think the insurance are sub-contract and not direclty part of AT&T. It seems a lot of their service are sub out to 3rd party.

Thanks for the quick reply. I agree, it seems like they're pushing their own software. I can't blame them for that, I mean a closed ecosystem can benefit a platform in some ways, but it still gives me pause because I like to have the freedom to use whatever I want to manage my media.

If you saw my first few posts there... me too...

There's always a "WP7 2011 Gaming" thread for next week. ;)
That's an elegant solution for this problem. I'll start working on it, to keep it in style with this thread, if you guys don't mind. Do you have any suggestions?

And I hope it's okay to keep this OT for 2011.

Anyone got a quick solution for moving old iPhone PHONE contacts to Win Phone 7?

I have this ugly mishmash of facebook, phone numbers etc, but I suspect the numbers saved either on or off my simcard never made the transition since I am missing loads of 'em.

I still have the simcard and phone - but I assume the contacts are in the backup of my iPhone on itunes

I was testing the Focus to see if I wanted to replace my 3Gs and it has made it through my trial period with flying colors. LOVE the thing.

Also, what games should I get?

Is there a way to export iPhone phone contacts to something like Windows Live, gmail, or something similar?

I would bet if you took it to an at&t store they could get the contacts off for you (mine asked if they wanted to get my contacts off my old phone when I upgraded) but I already had my live account updated. Another option would be to get them into your live account and they would be able to sync that way.

As for the games..... my fav's are ilomilo, project sunburst, de blob revolution, and flowerz.

What you'll want to do is first set up your Windows Live account. You can import contacts using Windows Live Mail (local desktop application), or something on the Windows Live / Hotmail site. Use it to get rid of duplicates you don't want, prune it just like you want, etc.

Then once all that is set up correctly, sync your WP7 do your Windows Live account and have it bring down all those contacts.

One weird note - I personally use Windows Contacts with my iPhone, not an online service. If I imported those Windows Contacts directly to the Hotmail contacts, it missed some data fields.

Instead, I had to use Windows Live Mail on my computer to do the contacts import, and that got everything right.

Yeah, I might do that, I got my phone by mail. The folks at my office who picked them up in the store didn't run into the same problem. Will also try the Windows Live technique above this post first. Thanks brohams.

Side Note: My old router sucked in terms of wifi. I originally bought it just cause I needed a replacement for my wired router that crapped on me. The wireless signal went like fucking 2 feet then died. Anyways got a new router for the Holidays and shiznit, and I just got home and set it up as I had sometime to kill. Just did a walk around my house with my phone, and wireless is fuck'n hella better.

Fairly sure gmail is an option for contact syncing in iTunes. I think I did iTunes -> Outlook -> Windows Live (using Outlook Connector)

Would you recommend the HTC Mozart to a smartphone-virgin, who just wants a smartphone but not the mega-state-of-the-art aka iPhone, since she is buying without contract.

i told her wp7 lacks a few crucial features but will be updated in spring and summer.

she seems to be positive to want this phone, but she waits for ces, to see if something interesting happens.

The Mozart seems to be a good choice, if you don't like the LG Optimus 7 and unlike the HTC 7 Trophy, the Mozart didn't have any problems in the past.

I don't think anything interesting will happen at CES. Maybe Asus or Toshiba will announce a device, but I don't expect anything big.

Umm so about this (drm on apps cracked). What are your thoughts? Don't want to turn the thread into a Piracy good vs. bad, but it's interesting nether the less.

It's not surprising and I don't like this at all. It will just scare the developers away.

WP7 GAF help me, I've spent near $40 already at the marketplace in less than two months with the latest purchase being Rise for Glory, that WWI flight sim. 4 Years with my previous blackberrys and I think I spent a total of $3. When the Zune player gets updated I'll probably begin subscribing to that too.

Wait for the 99¢ sales.

The only thing I would like out of this is for the proprietary apps that the hardware companies have. I would love to use the augmented reality apps that the LG phones have on my HD 7 provided it is even possible.

If you like Tetris, then you should get "Metro Blocks". There's a free and paid version ($0.99) in the marketplace. The free version has ads in the title screen, but only there. The music cool, but repetitive (I muted my phone after a while), the gameplay is ... well, Tetris and it's probably the best free clone in the marketplace.

Game Dev Story for WP7 would be cool ...

I am a bit anal so I can't stand looking at any bubbles, scratches, nik or whatever so I just said fuck it.

This rubber case is more than enough for protection, screens be damned.

Sucks big time! Hope Microsoft patch that shiz asap. People need to learn to pay for their apps or just wait for sales, no need to steal.

Maybe we'll see that Mango update sooner than later.

There is also option to import contact from sim card in the setting menu, it's under setting - application - people.

Some (unofficial) numbers.

No official numbers exist for what WP7 device sells the best in France, but website Monsmartphone.net has done a bit of calculation based on their visitors' preferences. (Our French is a bit rusty, but according to Google Translate, evidently users can customize their homepage to the site--cool idea).

Taking a sample of 1,268 users, which is statistically large, the choices of which smartphone has the most users becomes quite evident. Let's see what they have:

Samsung Omnia 7 = 40% of users
HTC (Mozart, HD7, Trophy combined) = 44%
LG Optimus 7 = 16%

Of course, what is interesting is how one Samsung phone (Omnia 7) can nearly match three from HTC in user share at the site. Heck, even the LG holds it own against the HD7 (16% vs 13%).
WPCentral: What's the best selling Windows Phone in France (unofficially)?

And according to Microsoft Germany, there are over 1,300 registered WP7 developers in Germany, who already released over 450 apps. That makes Germany the #1 WP7 dev country in Europe. A bit surprising, if you ask me.

Got my new Focus. Great news is now I have an extra battery and an extra charger from my dead phone :D

I'm still not entirely convinced my old phone had a hardware issue...When I went home, I went to a no-service area, basically in a mountain valley. What's weird is that the "save state" it would always revert to when I would reboot it, only saved text messages from RIGHT before I went into the valley. That's when all my sync problems started and the phone stopped syncing...that's why I was convinced I could fix it via software somehow. Guess it's a moot point now.

I've been having this problem lately, and it's not a deal breaker but slightly annoying.

I have a Focus (no SD card), and when I'm listening to music, sometimes the last few seconds of the song start skipping before it goes onto the next song. It only happens at the very ends of the song though, when it's probably loading the next one.

Anyone else have this issue?

I've not had that problem. The music plays fine on my phone.

Also, I just added a 4gb sd card that I had lying around.....hold me guys I'm scared!

So far so good, let's hope it doesn't slow down over time and as I load back my apps.

Edit: Alright, so for the most part, the hard reset process is painless, but really, MS needs to put in more work into the restore function. I should not have to manually seek out and reinstall apps, re-link the contacts in the People hub, etc. It would've been nice if my texts had been restored as well.
