I finally had a chance to handle the Focus and HD7 at an AT&T and T-Mobile store today. Both look and feel great in the hand. The HD7 screen didn't seem that bad in the store (and it wasn't overly bright in there). The screen of the Focus was stellar though and it was surprisingly thin.

I look forwards to Sprint's offerings.

Got my shipping confirmation from Amazon for my focus today. Should recieve it on monday, though theres a pretty good chance I'll recieve it tomorrow as I live pretty close to one of their warehouse/depot/whatever you call it. Can't wait :D

I haven't played with any other phone except mine own, and I don't get the HD7 screen hate. It's fine, I love watching netflix on it.

So, what's the deal with MS Points? Several here talked about how you can get deals/buy them on sale...when does this happen? How do I earn them?

MS Points are the currency for xbox live purchases on the xbox..

You pay for them with actual money.

Many of us are wondering why the marketplace on the phone uses dollars instead of MS points like the rest of xbox live..

They sell points cards.. that is what people sometimes find a deal on..

I haven't read any HD7 screen hate at all. It's issue is battery life and weight as gaming on the device can cause some fatigue. The Focus I'd say is the better device if it wasn't for its 8gb limitation. Heck, my HD7's 16gb is already full and is beginning to be a hassle managing the space.

Hmm, don't know. But in the Zune software on the PC, it uses MS points, which is why I was asking.

When retailers have sales on accessories, MS Points are counted. Sometimes there's just promos on them alone. Future Shop and Best Buy in Canada usually have 10% or 20% off on them every month. I know a store here has them for $5 off now or at least did last week. I got about 4x 2800 point cards at 50% off a while back during what turned out to be a price error =P

i really hope the venue pro's issues are fixed as i think it's a great phone that will expand the windows phone market into the enterprise world.

oh, i'd also like to recommend the icarpus stand/clip for smartphones. it's available for 12 dollars at amazon. what i love about it is how you can have your phone vertically and horizontally. makes it great for the desk and allows for one finger live tile navigation. works great for flat bottom phones like the HD7, will also work for phones with rounded bottoms but will rock left to right. will work with phones with cases too. i know the HD7 has a stand but it just isn't stable enough and would often tip over.

I bought three from Amazon UK since 16 November, still waiting.

Let us know how they are :-)

Is there a release scedule or blog like major nelsons following wp7 xbl games? Seems to be a lot of the announced launch games Mia and id like a better idea of when games are due out like that crackdown game or katamari

I'm not expecting much TBH, just want to get rid of that slippery touch.

And when I placed the order, Ebay UK didn't have Omnia 7 cases in stock but now that they do I say you guys should get them from there, safer with real pictures and all.

Has anybody bought a case for the Omnia 7 yet. Impressions or pics please.
I bought a gel case from eBay for £2.99 including postage, received it on Friday. It's a black gloss case and fits really well, Will post pics soon.

Okay having some video issues....

I used handbrake, got the video, and it shows up and plays fine in Zune. I tried to sync it with my phone though and things got wonky. It took a long ass time, and said it was converting the file for the phone to use. Now the video played and looked fine on my Focus, but the audio was all fucked up. It was all garbled and shit.

What did I do wrong WP7 GAFers?!?!?!

Podcast "album covers" doesn't show up on my phone is that typical? It's really bug me ... and I can't seems to figure out how to fix it.

All of my covers have shown up. Do they show up in Zune before you sync on over?!?!

They do in Zune but when they show up in the zune app (on the phone) they are just generic blank icons.

edit: I tried to delete everything, and redownload, resync, etc. Nothing work the artwork still doesn't show up on the phone itself.

It seems Chris Walshie (one of the devs of ChevronWP7) has details on the first update for WP7 and says it's MASSIVE (he says they could have just called it Windows Phone 8).

http://mobilitydigest.com/windows-phone-update-to-be-massive/

About 12 hours ago on twitter, he said he was hoping to post some screenshots / details later, likely on his blog.

Hopefully tomorrow he will be able to post some more details!

his twitter: http://twitter.com/#!/ChrisWalshie
blog: http://blog.walshie.me/

Current list of things for the update (some of this may be rumors): copy / paste, turn-by-turn navigation, custom ringtones. Those are the three big items, and the most concrete ones known. I'm sure there's going to be tons of fixes though, because MS has been working on this first update before the phone even shipped (makes sense since the code had to be locked down a month or two before September, so this update could be about 6 months, or more, worth of work).

I'm also hoping that if the MicroSD thing can be fixed via software, that there's something for that. It would also be nice to hear MS talk about multi-tasking more, but that may have to wait for a later update (though if it makes it in the first update... WOW! I think people would have to re-review WP7 at that point :lol)

Sounds cool. Now I can only wish for a native and not third party MSN app, an aol/yahoo/google chat client (though this prob will be 3rd party).

What's wrong with the Micro SD? Not having custom ring tones is almost criminal, as was not including copy paste.

They already announced Lync was coming to WP7, which will support Windows Live, AOL, Yahoo and Google Talk. It'd be really nice if that was part of this update.

yeah read that as I scrubbed through this thread, however not having something now was really dumb, I guess I'm just a little impatient :D

MicroSD is extremely picky on which SD Card you get. Basically, MS, Samsung and AT&T never thoroughly tested this feature. Your phone could end up randomly restarting, randomly blank itself (though sometimes a restart fixes it I hear), and other just plain wonky shit. It's going to be fixed either through a software update or MS is going to provide a list of SD Cards certified to work with WP7. It's a mixed bag on which cards work, but go to XDA Developers forum because they have an updating list over there.

Does the tethering on Samsung phones only work with Windows PCs?

I believe so, yes. It's extremely unofficial / unsupported, so buyer beware. I don't believe it has any official drivers, so it may not work on your machine.

*Edit* Also, I wanted to add a note about Lync in WP7. Be aware that Lync is very business-orientated and actually connects through a special Lync server. I very much doubt it's going to be the all-in-one IM client everyone hopes it to be, unless you set up your own Lync server (which costs lots of money for the license). It does have tons of cool stuff in it, but set your expectations accordingly, because I doubt it's going to be made to be more mainstream consumer friendly, since that's not it's target demographic.

Welp, there goes my short, yet sweet filled with lovely bugs journey with Omnia 7. Spilled "apple" juice all over it. Screen is ultra white/blue and youtube mumbo jumbo fixes didn't help.

Yeah, I fucked up pretty bad, no warranty and all and local Samsung here still don't have it.

Back to my trusty Nokia express music.

So much for that case I ordered. :(

Shit, no warranty? :-\ Tough luck, dude...now what?

So I know some WP7 GAF has used MicroSD cards in their phones...care to tell the make/model of the card and how it's been holding up? I'm gonna grab one for Xmas.

I will try some local stores here but I am not holding out on any hope this being SUPER AMOLED and all.

Now I will return to my Nokia/PSP GO/NDS days like a good, bored guy at his shitty job.

damn cheapest I found for 32gb is $99

Where are you looking? The only "working" SD Card that is 32GB is the Kingston Class 4, which is $70 on Amazon.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001C9P5TO/?tag=neogaf0e-20

Honestly, it's not that bad of a price I feel for that much extra storage on the phone. Considering you will now have a 40GB device, and you would have paid a total of $270 for it, it's fairly competitive.

*Edit* Also, I'm sad for the loss of the Omnia 7. Isn't there some sort of 30-day warranty or basic free protection with your store, or are you truly just up the creek without a paddle? :(

Don't worry I've been harping about this since before the phone came out.

I'm reading through the thread now...might just be wiser to wait for now until we get word from MS: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9476951&postcount=292

FYI, I've started to have slow downs once I loaded more than 10GB of music with a 32GB Kingston Class 4 card but no random reboots or data loss. They seem completely random but when it happens the phone is completely unresponsive. After a few seconds it starts working again.
that is exactly the same behavior I experienced with same card . Never a reboot pr loss of data, just random lack of response, especially after loading and switching back and forth with multiple apps. Also the camera app seemed to cause the most slowdowns. I decided to take the card out and live with the internal storage for now. The device is now very responsive with no lags. I am hoping someone will at least come up with a way to reformat the cards so they aee useable again, that is other then using a Nokia phone to do it since I have not been able to locate one at any att store in my area - Los Angeles .

Same settings here. I am wondering if just the transfer itself fucked up. I'll probably try again later. I mean the video worked fine in the )Zune software so it has to be in my mind the transfer process to the phone that fucked up.

Not actually 100% sure if it's micro sd on second look. However, as Mr. Snrub pointed out, I haven't heard of anyone successfully having a 32GB card with great success. It always appears to work fine, until you cross the 8GB barrier from internal flash to micro sd, and at some point after that it will start to bog down.

Honestly, what I would do is either buy the device now, and get the SD card later once MS puts out an official list (though they may be more costly since they may be branded and individually certified to work with WP7) and know that when you get the card you'll have to do a factory reset (won't be too bad since most things are stored on the cloud, or backed up through Zune), or you could keep waiting until MS releases the official list and buy both at the same time, which will be nice since you can just install the SD card right away, and not worry about it.

Personally, I would get the device first, and make sure your back-up settings are correct. Who knows, you may not even get close to the 8GB limit, and may realize you won't need the more expensive 32GB card. The choice is yours though!

So got my focus today, everythings amazing except for one thing. I bought a couple of games off the Zune marketplace on my PC. A couple of them installed, and the others didnt. So I go into the zune marketplace on the phone, and it shows 2 pending installs. Tells me to connect to wi-fi (I don't have) or connect to my PC. Except that when I'm connected to my PC and try to go into the marketplace and install them it just syncs then says "To view content, disconnect your phone from the computer"

ffs microsoft.
