Did you get it yet? Because I got one, and hated it. Returned it. Far too grippy and it came ripped a little bit.VanMardigan said:You don't need a screen protector, you have a gorilla glass screen. As for case, I just picked up a silicone case from Amazon.
Mine was fine, felt smooth and wasn't torn or anything. I've already got a few dings on the plastic, so I'm definitely going to use a case.dLMN8R said:Did you get it yet? Because I got one, and hated it. Returned it. Far too grippy and it came ripped a little bit.
After returning that case I decided I don't need one at all. The phone is perfectly fine all by itself.
I ordered the Amzer Luxe Argyle (smoke grey) directly from Amzer (it was out of stock on Amazon and I don't know if they would have shipped to Canada anyways). I have been using the case for a week or so now and I am very happy with it. While the case isn't especially thin, it is still very easy to keep it in my pocket and I feel it gives the phone a really nice feel and a bit more weight. Using the phone with one hand (as per my BlackBerry days) is much easier with the case on as it has just enough grip that the phone won't slide easily out of my hand as it would with no case.Vestal said:So need some advice.. Yeah, I thought moving to the UK would solve some of these problems, but it doesn't seem like all the features are available there either...Earl Cazone said:man, microsoft really sucks in bringing features worldwide. the desktop bing search in germany is more or less a reskinned MSN search. i would live bing, if i had access to the real deal

I've tried a couple of Apps, want to recommend some, but posting about them without Screenshots might not be the best thing. When I click on the Preview Screenshots in the App Store the screens are really, really small. :/

brotkasten said:This is how I do it:
I get the screenshots, logos/icons and Zune Marketplace link from www.marketplacebrowser.com, then I render a Microsoft Tag with that embedded Marketplace link and resize the screenshots and the tag (200px width for portrait pics, 402px for landscape). When I'm done, I upload everything to www.imgur.com and that's it.
Resizing the pictures takes the most time (I should write a script for that), but I can't just post 800x480 screenshots in the thread and I like the organized look.
I think I'll post some apps and games tomorrow. Didn't have much time last week.

Maybe because it isn't, or at least wasn't, rock solid hardware? The thing was a buggy pile of steaminess.
i believe the only time you can have wifi on without drain is when it's on the lock screen. once you are at the home page the wifi awakes from sleep and starts searching.Diseased Yak said:Does leaving the WiFi turned on when in an area that doesn't have WiFi at all cause some battery drain, anyone know? Just curious, I've been leaving mine "on" all the time, though most of my day is spent where I can't get to any (@ work).
I have to say, the sound quality of the phone playing mp3s is pretty impressive. I normal office rig is an iPad with a line-out to an external headphone amp, and just listening to the Focus through my headphones it comes close. Not quite there, but I'd say 85% as good. I might have to start using this thing as my primary office music player, given my abject hatred of iTunes and the way it handles music. The Zune software was like a breath of fresh air.
At least the update is worth the wait, because Microsoft is doing copy/paste rig... oh.shantyman said:Thurrot went off on Microsoft on the latest Windows weekly for the poor handling post launch of Windows Phone 7. He just eviscerated them. As he puts it, they are not even on pace with the iOS platform from 2007 in terms of support and updates.
This sort of silence from MS about the platform is one of the reasons I am holding back from possibly getting one of these phones. I am very intrigued with the platform but the silence is deafening.
He also talks about the improved app loading and the future of homebrew on WP7.Copy & Paste
Its hard to believe something like this was missing, but even more so people actually missed using it (the generic excuse from fruit phone owners when bagging the platform). Sure there are certain scenarios where its required, but only a few.
Having said that, in the first update youre getting copy and paste. For reals! Now, developers dont need to modify ANYTHING, you just get it for free, with some caveats of course.
The biggest one being, copy and paste is ONLY supported on the textbox control in 3rd party apps. When I say supported, Im talking about the OS automagically recognising the input control and giving the user the fancy text selection picker with a copy button.
One issue I have noticed though is certain apps dont actually use the textbox to render read-only text. For example, the Twitter for Windows Phone app, when youve clicked on a tweet to either view it or click on a link, the text isnt rendered in a TextBox control. Unfortunately youre not going to get copy & paste there. The simple fix is to change to a textbox control for scenarios where a user might need to copy some text into the clipboard but it requires some effort from application developers.
shantyman said:It's things like this that are killing this platform in its tracks. it's clear it's potentially a better model than Android in a lot of ways but they are seriously dropping the ball.
When I saw the WP7 at the AT&T store I had the feeling I had when I first used the iPhone, something that never happened with any Android phone I have ever touched. It's sad.

iOS has the same 'problem' too with some apps not supporting copy & paste. It's not possible to copy text in the AppStore, for example.brotkasten said:At least the update is worth the wait, because Microsoft is doing copy/paste rig... oh.
Chris Walsh, one member of the ChevronWP7 team, commented on the first update.

Just rumors. I can't remember that Microsoft said anything about the second update for the second half.snap0212 said:What various other new things are we talking about here?
Hasn't Microsoft already lost all credibility when it comes to WP7? I mean; when was the last time the major blogs have talked about anything really positive? Everything is just "Zune is shit here", "Feature X is missing there", etc.brotkasten said:Thing is, you just can't talk openly about things that are coming in the next 6+ months, without risking to lose your credibility.
On the rumor list, the other major feature is a Silverlight runtime. This will allow you to view Silverlight content in the browser. There are other features rumored such as far eastern language support, and there's going to be other features we will hear about probably after the first update.snap0212 said:What various other new things are we talking about here?
Apple has in the past announced an update, an exact date it will drop, and what features are included. Far more specific than what we have from MS. They definitely don't give a long lead time in them, though, certainly nothing longer than a month or so.brotkasten said:To be honest, I don't know how much more open Microsoft can get with upcoming WP7 updates. We know what is going to be in the first update, we know the time frame (look at the OP, they always said 'early 2011' or Q1 2011) and we know it's going to be a minor update (something like iOS 4.x or Android 2.x). Apple isn't doing anything else (announcing an update, the features and the time frame) and I can't remember when Google spoke about Gingerbread and its new features. Thing is, you just can't talk openly about things that are coming in the next 6+ months, without risking to lose your credibility. At that point you don't know for sure if a feature is going to make it into the final release or not, so it's better to be quiet instead of making too many promises you can't keep. But hey, that's just how I see this. It doesn't mean I don't want it now (kinda expected it for CES).
btw, Thurrot's whining is understandable. He's using WP7 since June or July, which is much longer than probably most of us here.
Just rumors. I can't remember that Microsoft said anything about the second update for the second half.
