Seriously, they already delayed it for a month, it's a minor update and people are screaming for it. No way they'd wait another week just for such a weak announcement.
Apparently you don't watch Apple announcements. People eat that shit up. I agree it's dumb, maybe the update will hit tonight, they seem to update things Tuesday night? All the XBL games come out at midnight on Tue/Wed. Maybe the updates will be the same?brotkasten said:That would be the most stupid and embarrassing thing ever. /hyperbole

They never hold OS updates that have been beta and in devs' hands for awhile just to release it during an announcement.kazinova said:Apparently you don't watch Apple announcements. People eat that shit up.
First of all, Microsoft isn't Apple. I don't think something like that works for them. Second, they already demonstrated it at CES.kazinova said:Apparently you don't watch Apple announcements. How about the mini player?snap0212 said:Faste Zune loading? Sounds nice.
I was wondering one thing. I've always had iTunes in the lower right (tray?), and it didn't show up on the taskbar. Is there any way to do that with Zune? I like my taskbar clean, but I also like listening to music.
I was watching the presentation a second time, to get source materials for gifs, and was swayed by her enthusiasm. she seems nice.brotkasten said:First of all, Microsoft isn't Apple. I don't think something like that works for them. Second, they already demonstrated it at CES.
I mean, they could always start the presentation like this:
Blah blah blah great start, blah blah blah consumers are very satisfied, 93% would recommend it, blah blah blah last week we released our first update and it was well received by the press and our customers. LET ME SHOW IT TO YOU!

Right click on your taskbar. Select "Toolbars". Click "Zune".snap0212 said:Faste Zune loading? Sounds nice.

edit: Uhh, you mean it should completely disappear from the taskbar when it's still running? I don't think that works. I thought you wanted to replace the taskbar player.

Not what I was looking for, but that's even better.Sir Fragula said:Right click on your taskbar. Select "Toolbars". Click "Zune".
VanMardigan said:Zune DOES load quicker for me. They need to stop all this teasing with the updates and the article and just release the update already. I keep thinking they'll just wait until I'm on vacation later this month to release it.
Brettison said:I just wish they'd stop being so cryptic about things. WTF do you gain from being cryptic MS? Honestly it just annoys me to the point where I get more pissed off at you.
VanMardigan said:They need to be more transparent, for sure, but I don't think they're being purposely cryptic. We have a lot of information on the update, and some small bits about the update after that. What isn't as clear is the exact timeline, and its safe to assume at this point that they encountered some technical difficulties that have caused a delay to this first update, so not giving out an exact date (especially with the carriers involved) is probably a good idea.
The camera thing is worrying though. I'm actually starting to believe that MS intended for it to reset every time you quit out. It's absolutely insane, but they refuse to address that specific issue. In fact, I sent a message on Twitter to Brian Seitz and the WP7 team and they have not responded. I'll see if Paul Thurrot responds, but it would be great if more people asked him about it, not just me. He's gotten MS to respond before, maybe we can get an answer before the update drops.
MS does this all the time with the 360. Can't say it's ever bothered me; most of the time they're adding support for features not ready for release, or patching security issues. No reason to get annoyed by any measure!Brettison said:Even beyond that though Zune updated and they couldn't even tell me WTF the update was really for. Just look at some of the twitter responses. Like you don't just issue and update and not know what it does. So why fucking try and hide it? WTF does that gain you?

I mean really you're not gonna tell me wtf my software update on my computer actually is, and you're gonna just give me a winky face like haha I'm just gonna bait you? Seriously MS I want to just say go fuck yourselves right now.
I don't think it's "in my head" - a lot of people have noticed an improvement in load time. It used to take a few seconds - now it's near-instant.broadwayrock said:The zune update just updated some dll files that update the firmware of devices, which means a WP7 firmware update is coming soon. This would be a really dumb move to fragment the platform like that. No. The specs WP7 has now are the minimum.thirty said:remember the specs for lower end wp7 devices? i remember reading MS always planned for lower tier phones with lower resolution. maybe this is where nokia steps in and shows off new lower tier wp7 phones? along with some high end stuff as well.
Right from the start MS have talked about supporting lower resolution screens.claviertekky said:No. The specs WP7 has now are the minimum.
They can only go higher from here. It doesn't make sense to fragment the platform like that as they learned from Windows Mobile.
Link?Sir Fragula said:Right from the start MS have talked about supporting lower resolution screens.
"WP7 devices will have one of two screen resolutions either 800 x 480 for large touchscreen devices with the potential for slide-out Qwerty keyboards, or 480 x 320 for BlackBerry style handsets that can incorporate a Qwerty on the front of the device. Microsoft expects the majority of WP7 devices to have the larger screen resolution at launch, with smaller resolution handsets coming later, said Foster."claviertekky said:Link?
It was rumored that Microsoft has different chassis specifications for WP7. Chassis 1 is the "high-end" spec that we have now. Slate device, (F)WVGA screen, 1 GHz CPU. The other spec mentioned a HVGA screen and keyboard, but still with the 1 GHz CPU and at least 256MB RAM (which is also part of the Chassis 1 min spec). Think of the Droid Pro, but with WP7 instead of Android.giga said:This would be a really dumb move to fragment the platform like that. I would be more alright with this if they didnt change the aspect ratio. That bothers me to no end on Android and Duarte seems to have finally smacked some sense into them over at Google by requiring Honeycomb tablets to be a set 1280x800.brotkasten said:It was rumored that Microsoft has different chassis specifications for WP7. Today, Neowin received confirmation from multiple sources, that pins the first Windows Phone 7 update for March 8.
According to the sources - including someone well placed inside a European carrier - the update has been delayed due to last minute changes by Microsoft and/or OEMs. The update must then be tested by carriers for two-three weeks prior to launch.
PG2G said:While it sucks that this update isn't out yet, I'm not TOO bothered because it doesn't really bring anything that I truly care about.
If this update were to include additional APIs, multitasking, custom ringtones, or something equally important, then I'd probably be ready to riot. Instead, it's just Copy/Paste and some intangible stuff.
Mr. Snrub said:Maybe it's coming out so late because they're putting a bunch of extra stuff in it! Right, guys?
