MWC announcement probably along the lines "Nodo update is available... NOW" sort of thing.
That would be the most stupid and embarrassing thing ever. /hyperbole

Seriously, they already delayed it for a month, it's a minor update and people are screaming for it. No way they'd wait another week just for such a weak announcement.

Anyway, some news stuff:

Online retailer Clove reports that the Venue Pro was delayed. Again. Instead of mid-February it's not coming in March.

To make up for that, they released a hands-on video of the HTC 7 Pro, which is already available for £432.00 incl. VAT.

How else would MS would introduce copy/paste feature as a new wheel for WP7?

It'll have to be a presentation. I could be wrong, and I hope I am, but isn't that the way how things go on a corporate scale?

Apparently you don't watch Apple announcements. People eat that shit up. I agree it's dumb, maybe the update will hit tonight, they seem to update things Tuesday night? All the XBL games come out at midnight on Tue/Wed. Maybe the updates will be the same?

They never hold OS updates that have been beta and in devs' hands for awhile just to release it during an announcement.

First of all, Microsoft isn't Apple. I don't think something like that works for them. Second, they already demonstrated it at CES.

I mean, they could always start the presentation like this:

Blah blah blah great start, blah blah blah consumers are very satisfied, 93% would recommend it, blah blah blah last week we released our first update and it was well received by the press and our customers. LET ME SHOW IT TO YOU!

Faste Zune loading? Sounds nice. :)
I was wondering one thing. I've always had iTunes in the lower right (tray?), and it didn't show up on the taskbar. Is there any way to do that with Zune? I like my taskbar clean, but I also like listening to music.

How about the mini player?

edit: Uhh, you mean it should completely disappear from the taskbar when it's still running? I don't think that works. I thought you wanted to replace the taskbar player.

I was watching the presentation a second time, to get source materials for gifs, and was swayed by her enthusiasm. she seems nice.

Right click on your taskbar. Select "Toolbars". Click "Zune".

Zune DOES load quicker for me. They need to stop all this teasing with the updates and the article and just release the update already. I keep thinking they'll just wait until I'm on vacation later this month to release it.

I just wish they'd stop being so cryptic about things. WTF do you gain from being cryptic MS? Honestly it just annoys me to the point where I get more pissed off at you.

They need to be more transparent, for sure, but I don't think they're being purposely cryptic. We have a lot of information on the update, and some small bits about the update after that. What isn't as clear is the exact timeline, and its safe to assume at this point that they encountered some technical difficulties that have caused a delay to this first update, so not giving out an exact date (especially with the carriers involved) is probably a good idea.

The camera thing is worrying though. I'm actually starting to believe that MS intended for it to reset every time you quit out. It's absolutely insane, but they refuse to address that specific issue. In fact, I sent a message on Twitter to Brian Seitz and the WP7 team and they have not responded. I'll see if Paul Thurrot responds, but it would be great if more people asked him about it, not just me. He's gotten MS to respond before, maybe we can get an answer before the update drops.

Even beyond that though Zune updated and they couldn't even tell me WTF the update was really for. Just look at some of the twitter responses. Like you don't just issue and update and not know what it does. So why fucking try and hide it? WTF does that gain you?

I mean really you're not gonna tell me wtf my software update on my computer actually is, and you're gonna just give me a winky face like haha I'm just gonna bait you? Seriously MS I want to just say go fuck yourselves right now.

Another day without an Update. Well, I personally am done searching for bits and pieces of information, and honestly... even caring about the Update. They better get their stuff out soon and give me lots of information before Apple puts up a pre-order button for the new iPhone on their website.

Machinima released an official App. Hope it's just as good as IGN's. :)

MS does this all the time with the 360. Can't say it's ever bothered me; most of the time they're adding support for features not ready for release, or patching security issues. No reason to get annoyed by any measure!

The zune update just updated some dll files that update the firmware of devices, which means a WP7 firmware update is coming soon. Any speed increases in the software are just in your head.

I don't think it's "in my head" - a lot of people have noticed an improvement in load time. It used to take a few seconds - now it's near-instant.

remember the specs for lower end wp7 devices? i remember reading MS always planned for lower tier phones with lower resolution. maybe this is where nokia steps in and shows off new lower tier wp7 phones? along with some high end stuff as well.

This would be a really dumb move to fragment the platform like that. I don’t see it happening—Nokia will be required the minimum specification like any other manufacturer.

It is definitely quicker for me. Almost everything from loading to switching between views is noticeably faster.

No. The specs WP7 has now are the minimum.

They can only go higher from here. It doesn't make sense to fragment the platform like that as they learned from Windows Mobile.

Hmm... is there a list somewhere of all the extra software each WP7 phone manufacturer has added to their respective devices?

I wonder if Nokia is just making an announcement of a partnership or if an actual product will be unveiled.

Right from the start MS have talked about supporting lower resolution screens.

Also, most devices have about double the minimum RAM requirement...

"WP7 devices will have one of two screen resolutions – either 800 x 480 for large touchscreen devices with the potential for slide-out Qwerty keyboards, or 480 x 320 for ‘BlackBerry’ style handsets that can incorporate a Qwerty on the front of the device. Microsoft expects the majority of WP7 devices to have the larger screen resolution at launch, with smaller resolution handsets coming later, said Foster."

EDIT: Also, http://www.fonearena.com/blog/23747/microsoft-will-launch-blackberry-style-wp7-handsets.html

There was a lot of talk of this sort of thing back before launch.

It was rumored that Microsoft has different chassis specifications for WP7. Chassis 1 is the "high-end" spec that we have now. Slate device, (F)WVGA screen, 1 GHz CPU. The other spec mentioned a HVGA screen and keyboard, but still with the 1 GHz CPU and at least 256MB RAM (which is also part of the Chassis 1 min spec). Think of the Droid Pro, but with WP7 instead of Android.

I would be more alright with this if they didn’t change the aspect ratio. That bothers me to no end on Android and Duarte seems to have finally smacked some sense into them over at Google by requiring Honeycomb tablets to be a set 1280x800.

It's definitely not in our head, it is quicker to launch. I just update the zune on my laptop but before I did, I note how fast it open (took about 4-5 secs), and after update it open in about a second or so.

My fear about the update is that it taking so long and the update will end up disappointing. There are talk already about lack of solution for camera setting and the app that get stuck in update que due to being trial version or app that can't be purchase from trial vesion (and also stuck and need to be removed). It's all little things but it's the little thing that tend to ruin the "experience" that Microsoft seems to be so fond of controlling and talking about.

If this update doesn't squash most of the bugs and fix all the little quirk it's going to be hard knowing the next update will be another 3 to 4 months down the road due to Microsoft insistence that they are just as good as Apple or Droid at launch. I faceplam everytimes I hear that as an excuse.

I'd rather fix some of the user experience bugs than go something new in hardware first.

I imagine that the folks that work on the two are completely different so I don't think it'd be an either or.

Somewhat off-topic from WP7, but the Zune software update fixed the wireless syncing issue I was having with my Zune 80. The December update had completely broken wireless syncing for me.

As for speed, it may be slightly faster to open; it's kind of hard to say, the software always started quickly for me.

On a side note my bet is we don't see the update at all this week like just randomly or as part of the Nokia thing, and I don't think we are gonna get it at MWC either. I just have this feeling something went wrong, and we might not see shit till mid March or later.

Disorganized.

They're pouring money into WP7 and once they see it as a profitable platform, we'll probably hear from Zune again.

Still rocking on my 30 gig here.

I'd pretty much consider the ZuneHD dead :P I'm sure at some point we will get something based on WP7.

Now they are saying the update is coming March 8th

http://www.neowin.net/news/exclusive-windows-phone-7-update-not-due-until-march-8

Today, Neowin received confirmation from multiple sources, that pins the first Windows Phone 7 update for March 8.

According to the sources - including someone well placed inside a European carrier - the update has been delayed due to last minute changes by Microsoft and/or OEMs. The update must then be tested by carriers for two-three weeks prior to launch.

Still placing bets on Mid March or later... if they don't get it out before the 20s that's technically Spring for the Northern Hemisphere which means they went a whole winter season without an update, and the device launched in mid to late Fall.

At any rate I'll believe it when I see it, and if this is the way things are going it makes me hesitant to recommend the platform to people.

While it sucks that this update isn't out yet, I'm not TOO bothered because it doesn't really bring anything that I truly care about.

If this update were to include additional APIs, multitasking, custom ringtones, or something equally important, then I'd probably be ready to riot. Instead, it's just Copy/Paste and some intangible stuff.

We need bug fixes more than anything. Speed up 3rd part app launching, fix the marketplace crashing, and fix the fuck up with the camera settings more than anything. It's shit like this that should ALREADY be fixed.

Meh I'm tired of harping on the same shit though. MS just needs to not tie bug fixes in with regular feature updates.

Mr. Snrub said:
Maybe it's coming out so late because they're putting a bunch of extra stuff in it! Right, guys?

I wish. LOL

More like something ended up buggy or they thought it was all good, and then something got flagged in testing so they had to go back to the drawing board to fix some shit, and then go back into testing yet again.
