Of course it is misleading. To be honest, the whole "more beautiful web" and "rich web experience" crap is awful. All the HTML5/IE9 demo sites they showed at the IE9 event felt like a throwback to the 90s. But with GPU acceleration. :lol Lets hope they're getting there with IE10.

There've been a few new users asking for app recommendations. My app selection is always in flux, but I'll update the app recommendation list later today, haven't tended to it in some time.

What do you mean no 3G? Is that for the Arrive? the HTC 7 Pro version has 3G for sure.

Its simple for me. I'm using the latest android browser with full flash capabilities, used safari on iphone for 18 months, and the wp7 browser for 5 months. For everyday mobile browsing, I just prefer the wp7 browser. I guess its the acceleration, I dont know, but it's butter smooth. I also prefer the text rendering when zooming in. My main beef is the lack of compatibility and video and that should be remedied by fall. The lack of flash sucks as well.

Which version of Safari? There already was a big jump from 4.0 to 4.3, with the introduction of the nitro engine (and let's not even talk about versions below 4.0).

All I need to do is hold down in IE9 and Firefox to see IE 9 presents a "more beautiful web." Firefox has Android like scrolling. Don't know anything about synthetics, but I like the fluidity and appearance of IE 9 much better.

Firefox's add ons and all my saved accounts keep me using it most of the time, however.

I sold my last iphone (a 3gs) in late November/early December, so whatever version was out then.

This has been the case for a lot of people for a while now. If it wasn't for people being hooked on extensions with FF 2 I think a ton of people would have jumped shipped long ago to alternatives like Chrome and Opera.

That being said I'm sort of over the whole browser pissing contest. Use what you use as long as it works for you, and doesn't totally cock block us from pushing the web forward (like say IE 6.5 LOL... IE9 is fine for now...).

As for mobile browsers I like the screen loading, scrolling, and text zooming best for WP7. Apple wins with the iPhone 4 to a certain extent on the zoom just because of their resolution, but I prefer loading and scrolling on WP7. Android is in a weird position of it's slower, and not as smooth. Yet with froyo it basically loads desktop webpages as desktop webpages without compromising. So you get the full experience, but at the price of smoothness and load times.

Most of the time I'd take it without all the full deal that android gives you cause well I'm browsing on a mobile device. If I wanted/needed the full desktop experience I'd well be on a desktop. I'll admit though every once in a while though not having the full website experience can be a big cock block though. iOS sort of falls in between in that it has a lot of sites either built for the device or just with a bunch of HTML5 so get a desktop like experience.

As others have said it's not the fact of not having flash on WP7 for general cool website effects and shit that's the big deal. It's just the cock block of not getting video since it seems that's the way most all of the video on the web is. HTML5 is the fall back, but it's not AS widespread. Plus until Mango we are SOL in general anyways. Honestly I don't really care about most of the IE9 mobile features as the current browser is fine. Just give me a way to actually see videos when I want to and I'd be satisfied. I imagine most of the rest of you fell the same way.

PS: Soooo how soon till we are all hack updating our phones to Mango this summer? LOL

So you're making a comparison based on old software on 2-year old hardware? Someone might as well compare the experience of an iPhone 6 to a pre-NoDo WP next year then.

Not that poor of a comparison actually (excluding the software issue), WP7 devices are build on a two year old hardware foundation (first gen snapdragon phones launched in 2009 like the 3GS).

The first Snapdragon phone was launched in December 2009, 6 months after the 3GS. No major phone had it until Nexus One in 2010. It is still considered 2010-era hardware.

You still need to compare current-gen phones with current-gen phones.

Fuck off, that's 6 months ago. My sister has an iPhone 4. Scrolling is slow as shit still but maybe yours has magic pixie dust and the trident engine makes yours run unbelievably better on anything other than html5 tests on features I'll never use that aren't featured on any sites I actually visit.

6 months ago the 3GS was still 1.5 years old. Going by that logic, it is fair to compare an iPhone 6 to a launch Windows Phone, since the launch Windows Phones will only be about 1.5 years old in June 2012.

You can't make a claim of using it for 18 months to establish credibility, and now resort to sometimes testing it on your sister's phone.

The first snapdragon phone launched in the summer of 2009 (the Toshiba TG01).

I consider it 2009 hardware since it launched in 2009 right around when the 3GS was released.

My relative has one and I played with it a bit.
But this is like people comparing G1 to the iPhone 4 in the iPhone or Android threads--people that jumped from the original Droid to iPhone 4, etc. The guy that was comparing his new Galaxy S to an iPhone 3G in the Samsung patent thread. You need to compare current-gen to current-gen, and it is disingenuous to compare things otherwise.

Other than in graphical capabilities, the QSD8250 runs circles around the 600MHz Cortex A8 in the 3GS. It really isn't a valid comparison.

I'm not grasping at straws when I say its unfair to compare Windows Phone NoDo with one's experience on an iPhone 3GS. Do you see any reviews that make those comparisons, even with the launch Window Phones? They all make it in comparison to the iPhone 4, if they make any comparisons at all. Even if I concede the SnapDragon point, arguing that comparing Windows Phone with NoDo with an iPhone 3GS is "not that poor of a comparison" is silly. The Cortex A8 in the 3GS wasn't just launched in 2009 either. The S5PC100 was 2007 hardware.

that doesn't prove much. just saying. i walked into an rogers store and played with WP7 and Iphone 4, but that doesn't mean i have the right to compare both to each other.

That's my point. I owned a Dell Axim that ran old Windows Mobile, but I'm not going to claim that I have oodles of experience with Windows Phone; comparing Windows Phone with NoDo with experience with 2 and 3 year old iPhone 3G and 3GS is also not a valid comparison, even if you have a relative with an iPhone 4.

Maybe if you're aim is to run some scientific tests, and even then, there are benchmarks already in place, and giga has been willing enough to post the html5test results, and we've discussed those. If you go back and read what I said, I said that the Wp7 browser felt smoother for me, and that I had reference points for the other platforms. Which I do. Why that offended you is anyone's guess, and your suggestion that only folks who have every up to date version of every operating system can comment or post their thoughts is utter bullshit. Cause if that's the case, you shouldn't even be in this fucking thread.

I thought about relocking my phone so I would be ready to get mango (still have yet to get the march update so I'm thinking I may be blocked from mango). I decided against it knowing more than likely the hacking community would get it figured out before it went live officially.

Still hope they "see the light" and just globally release it on whatever day its supposed to come out. Give all the carriers and oem's a cutoff date that they need to have their testing done by and then just release the update to everybody.
 
I would love to get a Windows Phone, but once again a lack of tethering is keeping me away. Mango is an awesome, awesome update, but I can't live without what I consider a basic feature on a modern smartphone (and something I had on Windows Mobile, I might add)

Just out of curiosity but the tethering you are talking about is what I am assuming is the "free" stuff that has been hacked on various phones? Going off my experiences from my pre.... I had the capability to use it but realistically only ever used it 2 or 3 times and even then I didn't need to use it.

Personally I don't see that type of tethering lasting very long on any current platform..... android oem's are already trying to block it due to pressure from the carriers. The carriers want their insane extra fee for doing it legally.

I personally don't see the use of tethering from my phone.... The only place I need it is while on the road and my phone's browser is good enough for that time. Otherwise I am on wifi.

You seem to be more offended than I am. I'm just saying that the basis of reference should be with current-gen hardware. I don't see how that is an unfair point. If someone is in an iPhone thread and says, "I've used Android for 18 months, iPhone 4 is SO MUCH BETTER," but I find out that he was using a MyTouch 3G (released around the same time as the 3GS), there is cause to question if that comparison is a valid comparison of the capabilities between Android and iOS.

Carriers being able to "block" tethering is bullshit anyways and I'm not sure why it's not a forbidden practice yet. It's bad for the customer and the companies are charging for an additional service that doesn't produce any additional costs for them. That's basically like charging for something that doesn't exist, which should not be legal. Hope the EU does something about that soon.

Is that how you read my post? Really? What are you REALLY disagreeing about? The fact that I think the Windows Phone is more "buttery smooth", that I prefer the scrolling and zooming on it? Which test would you like to have run on current hardware that would validate whatever your personal preference is on those factors? Are you discounting my experience with the other platforms entirely, even if they amount to way more than anything you have?

Does it support push email for Gmail? By that I mean, will I get a notification as soon as I get mail or does it sync every XX minutes?
 
Mango update looks seriously impressive. Thread messaging with Facebook chat built in looks really cool, but will that mean the phone will show that you are online and available to FB message all the time, because that could get a little crazy getting FB messages on my phone all day.

Maybe, when you haven't used your phone in 15 minutes or maybe just when its locked it will show you as idle on FB.

T-Mobile are doing an unbelievable offer for the Omnia 7 starting from £15.54 for a 24 month contract with the text and optional booster (e.g. Internet). 600mins for £20. Why the massive drop? It was retailing for around £35 a month last time I checked
